A 32-year-old woman, who presented for laparoscopic sterilization after two full-term normal deliveries, was incidentally diagnosed to have a left-sided complex cyst in the pouch of Douglas (POD). She had no history of previous surgeries or any symptoms of lower abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting in the past. She underwent laparoscopy, and the left ovary and distal portion of the fallopian tube were absent in their normal position. An ectopic left ovary with dermoid cyst was noted in the POD. The right ovary and tube were in their normal position...

Among female infants, a mass in the abdomen carries a large number of differential diagnoses. Arelatively uncommon condition is ovarian cyst, which may be encountered among such patients. Even more rare condition is auto-amputation of ovary. We herein, present a case of a female infant who presented as abdominal mass and turned out to be autoamputation of right ovary attached to mesentery of intestine. It was excised successfully and the patient is doing well at 3 years follow-up.

Genital tuberculosis mimicking carcinoma ovary is a well-known dilemma as there is no definitive serological or imaging modality for diagnosing abdominopelvic tuberculosis. A 20-years-old unmarried girl presented with complex adnexal mass, mild ascites and CA 125 >1000. Her staging laparotomy and frozen section was planned. Laparotomy revealed miliary tuberculosis and frozen section confirmed the diagnosis of tuberculosis. Patient was started with anti-tuberculosis treatment and follow up showed resolution of cysts...

Krukenberg tumor, defined as metastatic adenocarcinoma to the ovary containing at least 10% signet ring cells, usually arises from the stomach but can also originate from other sites. We reviewed 17 metastatic breast carcinomas to the ovary with signet ring cells to potentially identify features indicative of mammary origin as opposed to other possible primary sites. The patients ranged from 41 to 76 (mean, 53.6) yr. Fourteen had a prior history of invasive breast carcinoma (invasive ductal carcinoma, 4; invasive lobular carcinoma, 3; adenocarcinoma not otherwise specified, 3; carcinoma with ductal and lobular features, 2; and unspecified carcinoma, 2) and metastases were identified 2 to 284 (mean, 79) mo after the original diagnosis...

Ovarian torsion is a rare but emergency condition in women. Early diagnosis is necessary to preserve the function of the ovaries and tubes and prevent severe morbidity. Ovarian torsion refers to complete or partial rotation of the adnexal supporting organ with ischemia. It can affect females of all ages. Ovarian torsion occurs in around 2%-15% of patients who have surgical treatment of adnexal masses. The main risk in ovarian torsion is an ovarian mass. The most common symptom of ovarian torsion is acute onset of pelvic pain, followed by nausea and vomiting...

Germ cells develop as a cyst of interconnected sibling cells in a broad range of organisms in both sexes. A well-established function of intercellular connectivity is to transport cytoplasmic materials from 'nurse' cells to oocytes, a critical process for developing functional oocytes in ovaries of many species. However, there are situations where connectivity exists without a nursing mechanism, and the biological meaning of such connectivity remains obscure. In this review, we summarize current knowledge on the formation of intercellular connectivity, and discuss its meaning by visiting multiple examples of germ cell connectivity observed in evolutionarily distant species...

Koala retrovirus (KoRV) infection, thought to be associated with lymphoid neoplasia, and Chlamydia pecorum-related ocular and urogenital disease are both highly prevalent in eastern Australian koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) populations. However, in South Australian koalas, little is known about KoRV infection and C. pecorum-associated disease. We report the first South Australian case of lymphoma in a KoRV-A-positive female koala also affected by severe reproductive chlamydiosis. The koala was from the Mount Lofty Ranges population and was presented with hindlimb lameness...

OBJECTIVE: Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer in women and one of the leading causes of death from gynecological malignancies. Despite of its clinical importance, ovarian tumorigenesis is poorly understood and prognosis remains poor. This is particularly true for the most common type of ovarian cancer, high-grade serous ovarian cancer. RESULTS: Two models are considered, whether it arises from the ovarian surface epithelium or from the fallopian tube...

Ectopic adrenal tissue in the ovary is a rare entity. We reported a case of ectopic adrenal tissue in borderline mucinous cystadenoma of the left ovary. A 22 year-old student presented with progressive abdomen distension associated with discomfort for 3 months. Imaging investigation was suggestive of mucinous left ovarian cyst. Left salpingo-oophorectomy was performed and the histopathology revealed borderline mucinous cystadenoma with an incidental finding of ectopic adrenal tissue. This is an interesting case because of its rarity and potential risk of neoplasm changes...

Sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) is a marine groundfish that supports valuable fisheries in the North Pacific Ocean and holds promise for marine aquaculture. Limited information is available, however, about its reproductive biology. This study aimed to characterize the complete reproductive cycle, including seasonal changes in gonadal development (macroscopic and histological), plasma sex steroid levels (17β-estradiol -E2-, and 11-ketotestosterone -11KT-), gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indices (GSI, and HSI), and condition factor (K) of female and male sablefish captured off the Washington coast...

OBJECTIVE: The relation between endometriomas and damage to ovarian reserve remains controversial. In this study, we hypothesized that this damage may not be present at the time of endometrioma formation but may conversely gradually develop over time. STUDY DESIGN: To investigate the possibility of a time-related detrimental effect of endometriomas on ovarian reserve, we retrospectively selected 29 women with unilateral cysts who underwent at least two IVF cycles at least 6 months apart and evaluated ovarian responsiveness over time...

PURPOSE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder of the reproductive system characterized by polycystic ovaries and androgen excess. Letrozole is a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor that is used in experimental research to induce PCOS. Kisspeptin is an essential protein in regulation of cyclicity. Kisspeptin receptor is expressed in the hypothalamus and pituitary glands, and kisspeptin containing neurons are affected from sex steroid hormones. We aimed to investigate the number of kisspeptin-positive cells in the arcuate (Arc) and anteroventral periventricular nuclei (AVPV) of hypothalamus in the letrozole-induced PCOS...

The giant ovarian serous cystadenoma is a rare finding and often benign. The use of the laparoscopic approach versus open approach for the management of huge ovarian cysts is controversial. We report a case of a 27-year-old woman with a history of increasing abdominal girth over a period of two years along with radiological investigations revealed a large tumor arising from the right ovary treated by complete laparoscopic extirpation of a giant ovarian cyst. The complete laparoscopic approach for huge cyst is a feasible treatment when having a normal tumor marker profile and benign imaging appearance...
