The ETV6-MECOM fusion gene, produced by the rare and recurrent chromosomal translocation t(3; 12) (q26; p13), is associated with high mortality and short survival in myeloid leukemia. However, its function and underlying mechanisms in leukemia progression remain unknown. In this study, leukemia-stable K562 cells expressing the ETV6-MECOM fusion protein were used to investigate the effects of the ETV6-MECOM oncoprotein. K562-ETV6-MECOM cells were undifferentiated and had reduced colony formation, increased cell migration and invasion, and increased sphere number and diameter in a spheroid formation assay, presenting epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) traits...

Surgical resection remains the primary treatment modality for bone tumors. However, it is prone to local bone defects and tumor recurrence. Therefore, there is an urgent need for multifunctional biomaterials that combine tumor treatment and bone repair after bone tumor surgery. Herein, a chitosan composite scaffold (CS/DOX@Ti-MOF) was designed for both tumor therapy and bone repair. Among them, the amino-functionalized Ti-based metal-organic framework (NH2 -MIL-125 (Ti), Ti-MOF) has a high specific surface area of 1116 m2 /g and excellent biocompatibility, and promotes osteogenic differentiation...

The prevalence of breast cancer in women underscores the urgent need for innovative and efficient detection methods. This study addresses this imperative by harnessing salivary biomarkers, offering a noninvasive and accessible means of identifying breast cancer. In this study, commercially available disposable based strips similar to the commonly used glucose detection strips were utilized and functionalized to detect breast cancer with biomarkers of HER2 and CA15-3. The results demonstrated limits of detection for these two biomarkers reached as low as 1 fg/ml much lower than those of conventional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in the range of 1∼4 ng/ml...

In-source fragmentation (ISF) poses a significant challenge in secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). These fragment ions increase the spectral complexity and can lead to incorrect annotation of fragments as intact species. The presence of salt that is ubiquitous in biological samples can influence the fragmentation and ionization of analytes in a significant manner, but their influences on SIMS have not been well characterized. To elucidate the effect of substrates and salt on ISF in SIMS, we have employed experimental SIMS in combination with atomistic simulations of a sphingolipid on a gold surface with various NaCl concentrations as a model system...

Maintaining an appropriate concentration of vitamin D is essential for the proper functioning of the body, regardless of age. Nowadays, there are more and more indications that vitamin D supplementation at higher than standard doses may show protective and therapeutic effects. Our study identified differences in the body's response to long-term supplementation with cholecalciferol at an increased dose. Two groups of pigs were used in the experiment. The first group received a standard dose of cholecalciferol (grower, 2000 IU/kg feed, and finisher, 1500 IU/kg feed), and the second group received an increased dose (grower, 3000 IU/kg feed, and finisher, 2500 IU/kg feed)...

BACKGROUND: Leisure satisfaction is the degree of positive perception and emotions that an individual acquires as a result of participating in leisure time activities, and it has an important function in maintaining and increasing leisure time participation. Some studies on leisure satisfaction address the comparisons between groups. These studies are based on the premise that the measurement tool used to reveal the between-group differences measures the same feature in subgroups. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we investigated whether the differences between the groups were due to the measurement tool by examining the psychometric properties of the leisure satisfaction scale...
