The mean global prevalence of tension-type headache (TTH) in adult is 42 %. To date, there have been no Italian studies on TTH prevalence in the adult general population. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study, called PACE (PArma CEfalea, or "Headache in Parma"), aimed at detecting the prevalence and clinical features of primary headaches in the city of Parma's adult general population. Crude past-year prevalence for definite TTH was 19.4 % (95 % CI 16.8-21.9), namely 9.0 % (95 % CI 7.1-10.8) for infrequent TTH, 9...

The esthesioneuroblastoma is a rare neuroendocrine tumor that derives from the olfactory cells. In the last 20 years, around 1,000 cases have been described, with an overall survival rate of 60-70% at 5 years. The most common symptoms are nasal bleeding, nasal clogging and, in locally advanced cases, signs/symptoms of intracranic hypertension such as papilla edema, cefalea, and vomiting. The standard treatments are surgery and radiotherapy. Chemotherapy can be used in an adjuvant/neoadjuvant setting and in the metastatic phase, even if its role is still not established with certainty...

Migraine is the most frequent neurological reason for consultation. The differences regarding health care system, type of professional seeing these patients and therapeutic armamentarium available in the different countries are important, which makes it very recommendable to have an action guide that reflects the local clinical practice. Following the year 2005 WHO recommendations in its "Global Campaign" against migraine, the coordinators of the Headache Study Groups of the Spanish Society of Neurology, the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine, the Spanish Society of Rural and General Medicine, the Spanish Society of General Medicine and the Global Campaign decided to jointly make this guide...

The Italian headache disorders website ( was launched in 1999 by the CIRNA foundation in partnership with Al.Ce, which is a lay association and member of the World Headache Alliance. In 2004, the website registered almost 130 000 hits (+200% on the 1999 figure). The most visited parts were the sections devoted to topical issues relating to headache, the list of headache specialists, the headache glossary and the support group. This article summarises the website's first five years of activity and highlights the Internet's potential to improve headache-related decision-making, behaviour and outcomes...
