OBJECTIVE: Contact tracing aids epidemic control by enabling early detection and isolation without overburdening healthcare systems despite potential challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the practical application of contact and risk assessment-based models in predicting SARS-CoV-2 infection following exposure among healthcare workers in a large tertiary public university hospital in Türkiye. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was designed as a retrospective cohort study, including contact tracing data from 3389 exposed healthcare workers from March 23, 2020, to October 22, 2021...

BACKGROUND: Mastitis in goats is unquestionably a grave concern, with far-reaching implications for both animal well-being and productivity, while also presenting a potential threat to public health. AIM: The study aimed to compare culture methods and multiplex PCR (m-PCR) in the detection of the most three common mastitis-causing pathogens ( Staphylococcus aureus , Escherichia coli , and Streptococcus spp.) and investigate the gene expression, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), serum concentrations of immunological and antioxidant indicators linked to mastitis in Shami goats...

Dental implant failures caused by bacterial infections are a significant concern for dental implantologists. We modified the titanium surface by depositing silver (Ti-Ag) using direct current (DC) sputtering and confirmed the formation of a 'nano coat' by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), surface profilometry and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed the deposition of a uniform nano Ag thin film. A gradual increase in thickness was observed, and the film thickness (530 nm) at 5 min deposition time (Ti-Ag5 ) resulted in a reduction of the water contact angle (WCA, 15%) and an increase in surface energy (SFE, 22%) in comparison to the uncoated Ti surface...

OBJECTIVE: Reverse transcriptase loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) is one of the time-saving, accurate, and cost-effective alternative methods to real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). This study aimed to identify the robustness of a colorimetric RT-LAMP assay kit that we developed, detecting SARS-COV-2 viral RNA within 30 minutes using a primer set special to the N gene against RT-PCR, the gold standard. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Both symptomatic and asymptomatic subjects were included from a single university hospital and the status of both RT-PCR and RT-LAMP assay results were compared, and the consistency of these two assays was analyzed...

Time series analyses of solute concentrations in streamwater and precipitation are powerful tools for unraveling the interplay of hydrological and biogeochemical processes at the catchment scale. While such datasets are available for many sites around the world, they often lack the necessary temporal resolution or are limited in the number of solutes they encompass. Here we present a multi-year dataset encompassing daily records of major ions and a range of trace metals in both streamwater and precipitation in three catchments in the northern Swiss Pre-Alps...

INTRODUCTION: Data on positive rechallenge in idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) are scarce. We aim to analyse the clinical presentation, outcome and drugs associated with positive rechallenge in two DILI registries. METHODS: Cases from the Spanish and Latin American DILI registries were included. Demographics, clinical characteristics and outcome of cases with positive rechallenge according to CIOMS/RUCAM and current definitions were analysed. RESULTS: Of 1,418 patients with idiosyncratic DILI, 58 cases had positive rechallenge (4...

Glymphatic system alterations have been proved to be associated with cognitive dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases. The glymphatic pathway has not been elucidated in moyamoya disease (MMD), which was recognized as a chronic hypoperfusion model for neurodegenerative disease. Here, we aimed to investigate the glymphatic system activity and its relation with neurocognition, and associated hallmarks in MMD. We prospectively recruited 30 MMD patients and 30 matched healthy controls (HC). Participants underwent MRI and neurocognition evaluation...

BACKGROUND: Although oncogenic RAS mutants are thought to exert mutagenic effects upon blood cells, it remains uncertain how a single oncogenic RAS impacts non-transformed multipotent hematopoietic stem or progenitor cells (HPCs). Such potential pre-malignant status may characterize HPCs in patients with RAS-associated autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome-like disease (RALD). BACKGROUND: Ossification of ligamentum flavum (OLF) is a prevalent degenerative spinal disease, typically causing severe neurological dysfunction. Kruppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) plays an essential role in the regulation of skeletal development. However, the mechanism KLF5 plays in OLF remains unclear, necessitating further investigative studies. METHODS: qRT-PCR, immunofluorescent staining and western blot were used to measure the expression of KLF5. Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) staining, Alizarin red staining (ARS), and the expression of Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), osteopontin (OPN), and osteocalcin (OCN) were used to evaluate the osteogenic differentiation...

Herein, a near-infrared (NIR) light-mediated homogeneous photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor was constructed for miRNA-155 detection based on NaYF4 : Yb, Tm@ZnIn2 S4 (NYF@ ZIS) coupled with a three-dimensional (3D) walking nanomotor-assisted CRISPR/Cas12a strategy. Acitretin, commonly used for severe psoriasis and keratinocyte carcinoma chemoprevention in high-risk patients, is contraindicated in patients with end stage renal disease on hemodialysis. However, these patients often lack medication choices and in certain clinical scenarios, the benefits of acitretin may outweigh the potential risks. We identified 24 end stage renal disease patients on HD taking acitretin from Duke and Vanderbilt University Medical Centers. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a class of hydrolase that catalyzes the dephosphorylation of phosphorylated species in biological tissues, playing an important role in many physiological and pathological processes. Sensitive imaging of ALP activity in living cells is contributory to the research on these processes. Herein, we propose an acid-responsive DNA hydrogel to deliver a cascaded enzymatic nucleic acid amplification system into cells for the sensitive imaging of intracellular ALP activity. The DNA hydrogel is formed by two kinds of Y-shaped DNA monomers and acid-responsive cytosine-rich linkers...
