The effectiveness of using amphetamine isomer ratios to determine individual compliance with a Dexedrine (dexamphetamine, Celltech, Slough, UK) treatment regimen for the maintenance and detoxification from amphetamine abuse has been audited. The calculation of l/d-amphetamine isomer ratios in urine has been shown previously to provide an accurate method for determining the compliance of subjects prescribed dexamphetamine. This audit was performed on the results obtained subsequent to the analysis of 369 urine specimens collected from 87 subjects (26 female, 61 male), all prescribed dexamphetamine collected from January 1999 to December 2002...

COMPARATIVE STUDY
John A Caldwell, J Lynn Caldwell, Kecia K Darlington
INTRODUCTION: Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine) is an effective fatigue countermeasure for use in military subject pilots who are deprived of sleep. Anecdotal reports have indicated Dexedrine (Dex) is effective in "real world" sustained operations, and controlled laboratory tests have yielded positive results as well. The aim of this study was to substantiate the efficacy of Dex for sustaining the alertness and performance of pilots during periods of sleep deprivation by showing the robust effects of the medication and its consistent effects across several research efforts...

Amphetamine remains a widely abused drug throughout the world. It is also used therapeutically for weight loss, narcolepsy, and attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADHD). ADHD has grown dramatically recently both in terms of diagnosis and treatment. Increasingly, older individuals are diagnosed and treated for ADHD, and treatment often continues into adulthood. Of the available treatments for ADHD, Adderall is widely prescribed. Despite its widespread use, there are no published data regarding the expected amphetamine excretion profile following its use...

In a controlled study (the control group receiving pyribenzamine) it was observed that reserpine, in the dosage used, had no effect on weight loss in patients receiving d-amphetamine sulphate (Dexedrine(R)) and methyl cellulose (Cellothyl(R)) while on 1,000-calorie diets as compared with the control group. There was no observable difference in subjective feelings of the patients in the two groups. Reserpine had no effect on the length of time the patients remained on their diets.

Of the 139 patients admitted to hospital for chronic alcoholism, 32 had been taking other drugs also, and 17 were addicted to the drugs. Of the 32 patients, 16 used barbiturates, and 8 were addicted. Five took large amounts in suicidal attempt. Ten patients combined still other drugs with alcohol and barbiturates; and seven of them were addicted to barbiturates. Of the six patients combining alcohol with drugs other than barbiturates, two were addicted to the use. Of the 16 patients who used drugs other than barbiturates, eight used one or more opiates such as meperidine, morphine, codeine or dihydromorphinone...
