INTRODUCTION: The transorbital route has been proposed for addressing orbital and paramedian skull base lesions. It can be complemented by further marginotomies, as per "extended-transorbital approach" and combined with others ventro-basal approaches featuring the concept of "multiportal surgery". Nevertheless, it cannot address some anatomical regions like the clinoid, carotid bifurcation and the Sylvian fissure. Therefore, we propose a combined transorbital and a supraorbital approach, attainable by a single infra-brow incision, and we called it "Uniportal multicorridor" approach...

Facial feminization surgery includes a series of procedures that aim to attenuate the masculine features of the face and make the face more feminine and harmonic. During the past few years, several feminization techniques have been developed or adapted to this discipline. The current intervention of the forehead for feminization is based on the setback of the anterior wall of the frontal sinus and the remodeling of the supraorbital and glabellar region, associated to brow lift and hairline advancement. Primary forehead feminization yields high patient satisfaction, quality of life, and aesthetic outcomes, with few complications...

BACKGROUND: Deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN-DBS) is an effective treatment for patients with motor symptoms of Parkinson disease but can be complicated by disabling blepharospasm and apraxia of eyelid opening (ALO). Currently, there is no clear consensus on optimal management, and addressing these issues is further hindered by systemic morbidity and resistance to treatments. We aim to describe the different phenotypes of these eyelid movement disorders, to report our management approach and patient responses to treatment...

BACKGROUND: Severe congenital ptosis is a common ocular deformity in pediatric patients that can significantly impact visual development and aesthetic appearance, leading to negative psychosocial outcomes. The frontalis muscle advancement technique is a well-established surgical treatment for severe congenital ptosis. Aesthetic changes of the brow-eye continuum often plays an important role in ptosis surgery. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective case series study of patients with severe congenital ptosis who underwent the frontalis muscle advancement technique at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Xijing Hospital, Fourth Military Medical University between April 2020 and June 2021...

Botulinum toxin is a protein deriving from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum and it is widely used for the treatment of a variety of muscle hyperactivity syndromes and for cosmetic indications. Having a long-lasting effect, Botulinum toxin type A (BTA) is one of the most botulin toxin products used. Even if BTA has shown benefits in reducing the vertical lines between the eyebrows, Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) have been experienced as well, of which the most common ones are headache and drooping eyelids. In addition, since other local and systemic risks have been identified, a non-interventional post-authorization safety study (PASS) has been started...

In many cooperative societies, including our own, helpers assist with the post-natal care of breeders' young and may thereby benefit the post-natal development of offspring. Here, we present evidence of a novel mechanism by which such post-natal helping could also have beneficial effects on pre-natal development: By lightening post-natal maternal workloads, helpers may allow mothers to increase their pre-natal investment per offspring. We present the findings of a decade-long study of cooperatively breeding white-browed sparrow-weaver, Plocepasser mahali, societies...

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is the second most exported fruit in Brazil with an annual production of 27.5 million tons (FAO 2023). From September 2019 through February 2020, 50-day-old melon plants started showing root rot symptoms (dark-brow necrotic zones in their roots that extended to the collar zone) in northeastern Brazil, 30% of the plants in the fields were affected by the disease. The fields are in clay soil where melon, in monoculture, is produced all year long with three cycles of the culture per year...
