Deltoid ligament reconstruction allows for joint preservation of the ankle in the setting of patients a triple arthrodesis due to a flat foot deformity. Although the increased forces that may occur in the ankle joint after a triple arthrodesis cannot be eliminated, reconstruction of the ligament will delay and may prevent the onset arthritis, allowing the patient to maintain mobility of the ankle joint. Being considered an exclusive human structure for a long time, fibularis tertius (FT) is believed to have a secondary function of foot dorsiflexion and eversion. This study is an attempt to approach the issue from an anatomical perspective. A systematic literature search identified 35 studies (7601 legs) which met the inclusion criteria. These terms are commonly used as a potential kinematic aetiology to explain the occurrence of multiple lower limb and foot pathologies. Yet despite this widespread use there is no clear definition to explain what the terms abnormal, excess, over, or hyper-pronation, mean.
