In this meta-analysis, we included randomized studies on medical expulsive therapy implemented following shock wave lithotripsy for renal and ureteral stones. Pooled results demonstrated the efficacy of α-blockers, nifedipine, Rowatinex, and Uriston in increasing stone clearance. In addition, the time to stone elimination, the intensity of pain, the formation of steinstrasse, and the need for auxiliary procedures were reduced mainly with α-blockers. Expulsion rate was not correlated with the type of α-blocker, the diameter, and the location of stone...

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether tamsulosin, an alpha-blocker, has an effect on decreasing spontaneous ureteral contractility with or without phenylephrine, an alpha-agonist. Additionally, nifedipine and a terpene mixture (Rowatinex®) were tested and compared with each other. METHODS: We obtained ureteral segments from freshly killed eight-week-old rabbits. Preparation was performed in an aerated Krebs buffer (95% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide) at a constant temperature of 37 °C...

Despite the high efficacy and safety of ESWL used to disintegrate stones in pyelocaliceal system and upper ureter, the issue of further reduction of the risk of complications of this procedure remains unresolved. The inclusion ofphytopreparations with anti-inflammatory and lithokinetic properties in the scheme of perioperative treatment is one of the ways for prevent complications of ESWL. The effect of the drug Rowatinex on the process of discharge of calculi fragments after ESWL is evaluated. The frequency and intensity of qualitative changes of urine after appointment this drug were assessed...

PURPOSE: Terpene combination (Rowatinex) is known to help with the expulsion of urinary stones. The aim of this study was to determine how Rowatinex affects the expulsion of remnant stones after shock wave lithotripsy (SWL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical data were collected retrospectively from 499 patients with a diagnosis of ureteral stones who underwent SWL from January 2009 to August 2012. Ureteral stones were diagnosed in all patients by kidney, ureter, and bladder x-ray and abdominal computed tomography (CT)...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety and efficacy of a special terpene combination in the treatment of patients with urolithiasis after extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL). PATIENTS AND METHODS: 222 patients with clinically stable kidney or ureter stones of 0.3-2.0 cm undergoing complication-free ESWL were randomised to receive a special terpene combination (Rowatinex®; 3 × 2 capsules/day) or placebo. The study consisted of a 12-week active treatment phase and a 2-week follow-up phase...

PURPOSE: To compare the efficiency and spontaneous expulsion rates of tamsulosin and Rowatinex in patients with distal ureteral stones. METHODS: Between March and July 2009, 90 patients with distal ureteral stones <10 mm in size were included in the study. Patients were randomized in 3 groups: Group 1 (n = 31, those received 0.4 mg tamsulosin once daily), Group 2 (n = 30, those received 100 mg Rowatinex capsules 3 times a day), and Group 3 (n = 29, those received diclofenac 100 mg once daily)...

Most of the drugs administered to stone patients appear to be inappropriate and doing more harm than good to the patients. The objective of this paper is to identify the prevalence of blind chemotherapy among the stone patients and find out the real indication for the drugs administered. Patients who attended the stone clinic for the first time were interviewed to find out what drugs they had been taking before the attendance at the stone clinic. 350 patients consuming specific drugs relevant to stone formation at least for a period of 15 days were selected for a detailed assessment...

INTRODUCTION: our aim was to evaluate the effect of Rowatinex, an essential oil preparation of terpenic type, on kidney calculi clearance after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was performed at Hormozgan Hospital in Bandar Abbas, Iran, on 100 patients with 10-mm to 20-mm kidney calculi. They underwent SWL, and then, they were randomly assigned into 2 groups to receive either Rowatinex, 100 mg, 3 times per day, or placebo after SWL...

To evaluate the efficacy of a terpene mixture (rowatinex) compared to ibuprofen, patients with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) were randomly selected to either receive rowatinex 200 mg t.i.d. or ibuprofen 600 mg t.i.d. After a 6-week treatment, the decrease in the mean total NIH-CPSI score was significant in both groups from 21.4 to 15.3, (6.1 (p < 0.01) and from 21.2 to 16.8, (4.4 (p = 0.04) in the rowatinex and ibuprofen group, respectively. The rate of definite improvement as defined as 25% improvement in the total score was superior (p = 0...

The majority of ureteral stones at presentation in hospital are located within the distal ureter. Knowing that only half of the stones 4 to 5.9 mm will pass spontaneously, we tried to see: if we can facilitate this elimination for the stones smaller than 8 mm by selectve alpha-blockers (alfuzosin and tamsulosin) which induce relaxation of the smooth muscle of uretrotrigonal area and if there is any difference between these two drugs, concerning efficiency and tolerance. The inclusion criteria for each group were: stone size between 4 and 8 mm--even patients with steinstrasse--and previous, at least 2 weeks of expulsion treatment with nonsteroidal antiinflammatory and antispasmodic agents and Rowatinex...

Capillary gas chromatography was applied to explore the enantiomeric composition of some terpenoids in pharmaceuticals of natural origin. The drugs under investigation were produced in Germany (Rowachol, Rowatinex), Poland (Terpichol, Terpinex, Rub arom, Herbolen and Oleum Camphoratum), Slovenia (Uroterp, Mentoklar) and United Kingdom (Olbas oil, Vicks Vapo Rub). The model compounds tested were: menthone, isomenthone, menthol, fenchone, borneol and camphor. It has been found that depending on the manufacturer, pharmaceuticals possessing similar chemical composition may differ considerably in enantiomer composition...

A gas-liquid chromatographic system with alpha-cyclodextrin in formamide medium (coated on Chromosorb) was used for the separation of enantiomers of alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene and camphene in medicines applied in the therapy of liver and kidney diseases. The drugs under investigation were produced in Poland (Terpichol and Terpinex), in Germany (Rowachol and Rowatinex) and in Slovenia (Uroterp). It was found that, depending on the manufacturer, medicines possessing similar chemical compositions differ considerably from one another regarding the content of enantiomers, mainly those of alpha-pinene...

A randomized, double-blind study was carried out on forty patients with acute renal colic in order to evaluate the efficacy of Rowatinex in the treatment of patients with ureteric stones. Patients were randomized to Rowatinex and placebo tablets. In the Rowatinex-treated patients there was a significantly higher rate of expulsion of stones which were greater than or equal to 3 mm in diameter when compared with the placebo group (61% vs. 28%, respectively). A higher success rate (spontaneous stone expulsion and/or disappearance of dilatation of the collecting system on IVU) was noted in the Rowatinex group when compared to the placebo group (78% vs...

A prospective, randomized, double-blind study was performed on 87 patients with ureterolithiasis, assessing the effect of the essential oil preparation Rowatinex (Rowa Pharmaceuticals, Ireland) for the treatment of ureterolithiasis. Forty-three patients were treated with Rowatinex and 44 patients with placebo. Despite the larger average diameter of calculi in the group of patients treated with Rowatinex, the overall stone expulsion rate was significantly higher in the Rowatinex group as compared to placebo: 81% and 59%, respectively (0...
