Background: Occupational therapy services implemented via telehealth (Tele-OT) have declined since COVID-19, despite their well-known benefits. This study aimed to (1) compare the demographic and the clinical characteristics, attitudes, perceived usability, self-efficacy toward Tele-OT, and the factors affecting technology use for occupational therapists with and without Tele-OT experience; (2) describe the current practice and examine the factors associated with Tele-OT implementation; and (3) better understand the barriers and facilitators for implementing Tele-OT...

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects millions around the world. The etiology of PD remains unknown, but environmental and ocuppational exposures to heavy metals are likely at play, and may impact the severity of the disease. Lead is a toxin known to affect many organs in the body throughout life, particularly the central nervous system. Here, we summarize and examine the evidence for such environmental and/or ocupational exposures, with a focus on the molecular mechanisms associated with lead exposure and its potential contribution to the onset of parkinsonism in PD...

Introduction: Determination of what constitutes necessary surgery in the setting of acute hospital resource strain during the COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented challenge for healthcare systems. Over the past two years during the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many changes in reviews of medically necessary spine surgery. There continues to be no clear guidelines on recommendations and further discussion is necessary to continue to provide appropriate and high-level care during future pandemics...

The study examines occupational health risks of informal e-waste activities on major landfills and e-village in Lagos state, Nigeria. The concept of informality guided the study based on primary and secondary data sources. We adopted a non-probabilistic sampling technique. Thus purposive sampling was used in selecting the main landfills and the computer village in Lagos state as study sites. We used descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze the data at a p = 0.05% confidence level. Wounds and cuts accounted for over nine-tenths (92%) of the main form of injuries experienced by 300 e-workers selected by convenience sampling on the three main landfills and the e-village in Lagos...

Pancreatic cancer is a highly challenging malignancy with extremely poor prognosis. Cytoglobin (CYGB), a hemeprotein involved in liver fibrosis and cancer development, is expressed in pericytes of all organs. Here, we examined the role of CYGB in the development of pancreatic cancer. CYGB expression appeared predominately in the area surrounding adenocarcinoma and negatively correlated with tumor size in patients with pancreatic cancer. Directly injecting 7, 12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene into the pancreatic tail in wild-type mice resulted in time-dependent induction of severe pancreatitis, fibrosis, and oxidative damage, which was rescued by Cygb overexpression in transgenic mice...

There is convincing evidence that tight relationships between the upper and lower airways also apply to the workplace context. The majority of patients with occupational asthma (OA) also suffer from ocupational rhinitis (OR), although OR is 2 to 3 times more common than occupational asthma (OA). OR most often precedes the development of OA, especially when high-molecular-weight protein agents are involved, and longitudinal cohort studies have confirmed that OR is associated with an increased risk for the development of OA...

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by its hypovascularity, with an extremely poor prognosis because of its highly invasive nature. PDAC proliferates with abundant stromal cells, suggesting that its invasive activity might be controlled by intercellular interactions between cancer cells and fibroblasts. Using four PDAC cell lines and two pancreas cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), the expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) and IGF1 receptor (IGF1R) was evaluated by RT-PCR, FACScan, western blot, or ELISA...

BACKGROUND: Anaplastic pancreatic cancer (APC) cell lines have been scarcely established. METHODS: The morphology, gene expressions, karyotyping and epithelial-mesenchymal transition markers of newly established APC cell lines OCUP-A1 and OCUP-A2 were analyzed. Their abilities of proliferation under normoxia and hypoxia, migration and invasion were compared to 4 commercially available pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) cell lines. Their induction of angiogenesis, stem-like cell population and subcutaneous tumor growth in nude mice were estimated, comparing 2 PDA cell lines examined here...

β-UPSe was synthesized from the reaction of U(2)Se(3), P and Se in a CsCl flux in a fused-silica tube. It crystallizes with four formula units in the tetra-gonal space group I4/mmm in the UGeTe structure type. The asymmetric unit comprises one U (site symmetry 4mm), one Se (4mm), and one P (mmm.) atom. The U atom is coordinated in a monocapped square-anti-prismatic arrangement, where the square face is formed by P atoms and the other five vertices are Se atoms. The P site is disordered about a mirror plane, showing half-ocupancy for each of the two resulting P atoms...

The prognosis of pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma is known to be relatively favorable, unlike poor prognosis of the majority of pancreatic cancers. However, little is known about the pathogenesis and mode of progression of this cancer. We report on a newly established pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma cell line, OCUP-1. Its characteristics were compared to those of cells derived from pancreatic ductal cell carcinoma. OCUP-1 was established by successive culture of cancer cells obtained during an operation for pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma...

There is a marked growth of common and occupational morbidity related to the broncho-pulmonary system in Ukraine. This tendency is seen in Dnepropetrovsk region, where an increase in ocupational diseases is observed mainly on mining and smelting plants. Ocupational pulmonary diseases have long asymptomatic period and are diagnostically easy revealed at the late stages. It leads to stable disability and early mortality of these patients. Determination of rate and pecularities of the development of broncho-pulmonary system disorders in employees of plants with unhealthy working conditions as well as timely prophylactic and rehabilitation measures directed to the workers are highly important issue nowadays...

To help primary care residency programs develop or improve residency curricula in occupational and environmental medicine, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health launched a train-the-trainer initiative. This project was called EPOCH-Envi (Educating Physicians in OCcupational Health and the Environment). From 1990 to 1996, 46 2-day curriculum development workshops were held.
