Kidney transplantation is the gold-standard treatment of end-stage renal disease. Receiving a pre-emptive transplant ensures the best survival for both the recipient and the allograft. However, due to an overwhelming discrepancy between available donors and patients on the transplant waiting list, the vast majority of transplant candidates require prolonged periods of dialytic therapy before transplant. Peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis have been traditionally considered as competitive renal replacement therapies...

Nitriles (N≡CR) are ubiquitous in coordination chemistry, yet literature studies on metal-nitrile bonding based on a multi-technique approach are rare. We selected an easily-available di-organoiron framework, containing both π-acceptor (CO, aminocarbyne) and donor (Cp = η5 -C5 H5 ) ligands, as a suitable system to provide a comprehensive description of the iron-nitrile bond. Thus, the new nitrile (2-12)CF3 SO3 and the related imine/amine complexes (8-9)CF3 SO3 were synthesized in 58-83% yields from the respective tris-carbonyl precursors (1a-d)CF3 SO3 , using the TMNO strategy (TMNO = trimethylamine-N-oxide)...

In this study, organo-funtionalization of sodium-alginate has been carried out using phenylsemicarbazide as modifier to graft N, O-donor atoms containing functional groups (amino-carbamate moieties) to offer novel support for TiO2 immobilization. Hybrid composite made of aminocarbamated alginate, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) and titanium oxide TiO2 (MCA-TiO2 ) was prepared for the promising adsorptive remediation of Ni(II). FT-IR, SEM-EDX were employed to characterize MCA-TiO2 . The optimization of TiO2 to modified alginate mass ratio was carried out and hydrogel beads with TiO2 /MCA mass ratio of 10...

OBJECTIVES: The primary objective of this study was to define the relationship between vitamin D levels and interleukins (IL) 1β and 6 as inflammatory markers in a healthy population. As a secondary objective, to measure the prevalence of insufficiency/ deficiency of vitamin D in the same population. METHODS: A sample of 43 healthy blood donors, without chronic-degenerative, inflammatory, or infectious diseases, and without obesity, was selected. Serum levels of IL-1β and IL-6 were measured in individuals with insufficiency or deficiency of vitamin D...

The rates of ultrafast intersystem crossing in acceptor-bridge-donor molecules centered on Pt(II) acetylides are investigated. Specifically, a Pt(II) trans -acetylide triad NAP--Pt--Ph-CH2 -PTZ [1], with acceptor 4-ethynyl- N -octyl-1,8-naphthalimide (NAP) and donor phenothiazine (PTZ), is examined in detail. We have previously shown that optical excitation in [1] leads to a manifold of singlet charge-transfer states, S*, which evolve via a triplet charge-transfer manifold into a triplet state 3 NAP centered on the acceptor ligand and partly to a charge-separated state 3 CSS (NAP- -Pt-PTZ+ )...

BACKGROUND: permissibility in the selection of living kidney donors (LKD) with one or more cardiometabolic risk factors (CMRFs) and/or metabolic syndrome (MS) is an increasingly frequent practice worldwide. These factors, together with kidney donation specifically, are known to be associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: we analyzed the frequency of CMRFs and MS before and after kidney donation in LKD. In the secondary analysis, we associated CMRFs and MS with renal function...

Introduction: the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 led to the declaration of the state of sanitary alarm between March and June 2020 in Spain. The donor strength of bifunctional pyridine-cyclopentadienyl ligands was altered systematically by the introduction of donating groups in the para-position of the pyridine. In the resulting chromium complexes an almost linear correlation between donor strength and the nitrogen-chromium distance as well as the electronic absorption maximum is experimentally observed. The connection of electron-donating groups in the ligand backbone leads to an efficient transfer of the electronic influences to the catalytically active metal centre without restricting it through steric effects...

This study reported a novel facultative anaerobic Cr(VI)-reducing bacteria (Sporosarcina saromensis W5) and investigated its Cr(VI) removal performances and removal mechanisms. The strain W5 was able to grow and reduce Cr(VI) under aerobic and anaerobic environment, and exhibited considerable Cr(VI) reduction capabilities under a wide range of pH (8.0-13.0), temperature (20-40 °C) and initial Cr(VI) concentration (50-800 mg/L). The addition of Cd2+ severely inhibited its growth and Cr(VI) removal, while Cu2+ and Fe3+ significantly enhanced the removal efficiencies...
