[Purpose] In rotator cuff tendon disease (RCTD), anamnesis is as important as clinical findings and anatomic/radio diagnostic examination. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features of patients diagnosed with RCTD using clinical and radiological methods between March 2015 and August 2015 at Malatya Research and Training Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department. [Subjects and Methods] The study included 178 patients who were diagnosed with RCTD (128 females and 50 males). A questionnaire comprising 33 questions was given to each patient...

The aim of this study was to investigate thyroid function tests in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and pre-gestational DM and control group. Methodology : There were 61 pregnant diabetic women in study group and 35 pregnant women in control group. Serum T4, T3, T3RU, FTI, TSH and Anti TPO Ab were assessed in each person. Results : About 36% of patients had GDM and 64% pre-gestational DM. Thyroid dysfunction was detected in 18% of study group compared with 8.6% of control group (P = 0.2). There was Thyroid dysfunction in 4...

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease with complicated, multifactorial and heterogenic nature that has no known pathological cause. As the role of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and thyroid dysfunctions in the prevalence of osteoporosis is not exactly known, therefore this study was designed to evaluate the probable association between osteoporosis with DM and thyroid dysfunctions in Iranian patients. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 300 subjects out of the total number of patients referring to Gorgan bone densitometry centers (3000subjects) were selected via random sampling method in 2009...

Diabetes mellitus (DM) disrupts the pituitary-thyroid axis and leads to a higher prevalence of thyroid disease. However, the role of reactive oxygen species in DM thyroid disease pathogenesis is unknown. Dual oxidases (DUOX) is responsible for H(2)O(2) production, which is a cosubstrate for thyroperoxidase, but the accumulation of H(2)O(2) also causes cellular deleterious effects. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase 4 (NOX4) is another member of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase family expressed in the thyroid...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) causes liver diseases and extrahepatic manifestations, and also contributes to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). The aims of the present study were to examine the incidence of extrahepatic manifestations including lichen planus in HCV-infected patients and to evaluate the relationship between lichen planus and insulin resistance. METHODS: Of 9396 patients with liver diseases presenting to the study hospital, 87 patients (mean age 60...

The objective of our study was to evaluate the natural history of oral lichen planus (OLP) and other extrahepatic manifestations in the inhabitants of an area in Japan that is hyperendemic for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Over 4 years, 224 adult inhabitants with HCV infection were examined for OLP by a single oral surgeon. All subjects were interviewed regarding the natural history of other extrahepatic manifestations they had developed. The antibodies to HCV (anti-HCV) and serum HCV RNA were determined...

Chronic infections that caused by hepatitis B and C viruses, are important all of the world as a public health problem. Despite intensive control measurements, the incidences of chronic hepatitis B and C virus infections in our country are estimated as 5-7% and 3%, respectively. There are accumulating data of especially autoimmune mediated extrahepatic manifestations of hepatitis B and C virus infections, such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM), Behçet's Disease (BD), hypo- or hyper-thyroiditis and autoimmune diseases...

BACKGROUND: Obesity, increasingly prevalent among children, causes major morbidities, among which is earlier onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). METHODS: We reviewed charts of children aged 3 to 18 years (n=106). The population was divided into four age groups. Anthropomorphic measurements, family history, diet and exercise patterns, and selected endocrine/metabolic measurements were recorded, and descriptive statistics were calculated. RESULTS: Obesity in one or both parents correlated with a higher percent of ideal body weight (IBW) (p = 0...
