Background . Angiofibroma is a benign tumor, consisting of fibrous tissue with varying degrees of vascularity, characterized by proliferation of stellate and spindle cells around the blood vessels. It most commonly arises from the nasopharynx, although it may rarely arise in extranasopharyngeal sites. Case Report . A 46-year-old male presented with left side nasal obstruction and epistaxis for one month. Clinical nasal examination revealed left sided polypoidal mass arising from the vestibular region of the lateral nasal wall...

A rare case of extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma arising from the inferior turbinate in a young female of 28 years is presented. The case is discussed in light of scant contemporary literature on the cited subject. This clinical record highlights the distinct clinical nature of Extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma (ENA) and importance of Immunohistochemistry in diagnosis of such lesions. With this case we report a rare clinical entity which presented in an extremely rare manner.

Introduction Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a rare benign neoplasm in the nasopharynx. The tumor tends to be locally aggressive and is typically seen in adolescent boys. Extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas have been reported sporadically in the literature. They most commonly originate from the maxillary sinus. Objectives A 26-year-old woman was referred to our clinic with intermittent epistaxis from the right nasal passage for the previous 2 months. Maxillofacial magnetic resonance imaging showed a lobular, contoured mass originating from the right inferior turbinate and hanging in the right nasal cavity, with dense contrast enhancement denoting hypervascularity...

Introduction The extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma is histologically similar to juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, differing from the latter in clinical and epidemiologic characteristics. Objectives We present a case of extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma originating in the inferior turbinate. Resumed Report The patient was a girl, 8 years and 6 months of age, who had constant bilateral nasal obstruction and recurrent epistaxis for 6 months, worse on the right side, with hyposmia and snoring. Nasal endoscopy showed a reddish lesion, smooth, friable, and nonulcerated...

Nasopharyngeal angiofibromas are benign and vascular neoplasms, which originate characteristically in the posterior lateral wall of the nasopharynx. They account for less than 0.5% of all head and neck tumours. Although angiofibromas extend beyond the nasopharynx usually, they rarely originate outside the nasopharynx. Reports of primary extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas have appeared sporadically in the literature. The maxillary sinus is the most common site involved, while the inferior turbinate represents an extremely rare localization...

Angiofibromas are rare, benign, locally invasive vascular tumors, which represent 0.05-0.5% of all head and neck tumors. Most frequent site of occurrence is the posterior nasopharynx, called as nasopharyngeal angiofibromas (NA), when these arise outside the nasopharyngeal region they are termed as extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas (ENA). Only 65 cases of ENA have been reported, and the most common site has been reported to be maxilla followed by ethmoids. Other unusual sites of occurrence reported so far in literature are nasal cavity, nasal septum, larynx, sphenoid sinus, pterygomaxillary fissure, infratemporal fossa, cheek, oropharynx, retromolar area, middle turbinate, inferior turbinate, and tonsil...

The common variant of angiofibromas of head and neck region is juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). However extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas (ENAF) occurs very rarely at any age in either sex, and they differ from classical JNA in incidence, clinical and radiological presentation. They form the differential diagnosis for any mass nose or nasal polyp. We present a case of recurrent angiofibroma of ethmoid region presented with recurrent lesion with bilateral proptosis and bossing of forehead. MRI showed involvement of bilateral nasal cavities, ethmoids and frontal sinuses with erosions of ethmoid roof and posterior table of frontal sinuses...

Angiofibromas are rare vascular tumors which originate predominantly in the nasopharynx and occur typically in male adolescents. Extranasopharyngeal sites such as nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are less frequent. This review article was undertaken to evaluate the incidence, clinical features and management of extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas originating exclusivelly from nasal cavity structures. Our focus of interest was to evaluate the significance of immunohistochemical analysis in diagnosis of such extremely rare neoplasms...

Angiofibroma is a benign vascular tumor that usually occurs in the nasopharynx, and extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas are rarely reported. We report the first case of an angiofibroma arising from the inferior turbinate after CO2 laser turbinoplasty. Endoscopic excisional biopsy was performed, but the tumor recurred after 2 months of surgery. The mass was excised by endoscopic approach including surrounding normal mucosal tissue. Histologic examination suggested the diagnosis of angiofibroma. The patient was asymptomatic, and there was no evidence of recurrence after 1 year of the second surgery...

Angiofibroma of extranasopharyngeal origin is very rare. Although it is usually originated from any mucosal structure in the head and neck region, maxilla is the most common involvement site. The nasal septum is an exceptional anatomic site of an angiofibroma. Surgery is the best treatment modality and recurrence is very rare. Nasal septal angiofibromas must be considered in the differential diagnosis of nasal vascular masses arising from the nasal septum. In this article, we report a 37-year-old male case with nasal septal angiofibroma who underwent surgical resection of the tumor...

Angiofibromas (AFs) are benign, potentially local aggressive, and rich vascular neoplasms that originate from posterior lateral wall of the nasopharynx in adolescent males. However, they could be encountered in sites other than nasopharynx. The maxillary sinus is the most common location of extranasopahryngeal AFs. The nasal septum is an extremely rare location, and only 15 cases had been reported in literature. In this present case, an unusual extranasal AF originating from the anterior part of the nasal septum is reported with its clinical, laboratory, and treatment options and theories proposed to explain the origin of extranasopharyngeal AFs are discussed...

Angiofibromas are histologically benign, but unencapsulated and highly vascular tumors with a potential of local destructive effect. Angiofibromas predominantly originate from the posterolateral wall of the nasopharynx. Extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas are extremely rare and mostly seen in maxillary sinus and ethmoid sinus. In this article, we report a 21-year-old male case who was admitted with headache and diagnosed with an angiofibroma originating from the sphenoid sinus.

Angiofibromas originate predominantly in the nasopharynx. Extranasopharyngeal sites such as the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity are less frequent. Angiofibroma of the nasal septum is extremely rare and the site of origin is either anterior, at the bony cartilaginous junction or posterior. Clinically, patients present with recurrent epistaxis and nasal obstruction secondary to a fleshy or polypoidal nasal mass. Computerized tomography of the nasal cavity and bilateral carotid angiography are useful in the pre-operative work-up...

Angiofibroma is a histologically benign but locally invasive tumour of the blood vessels characterized by architecturally irregular vessels set in a fibrous stroma. The commonest site for occurrence of these tumours in the body is the nasopharynx. It is rare to find extranasopharyngeal origin of angiofibromas. The infratemporal fossa is a very rare site of extra nasopharyngeal angiofibroma with only 4 cases reported in the literature. We report here a case of a vascular mass arising from the infratemporal fossa of a 13-year-old boy that was confirmed to be a case of angiofibroma histopathologically...

Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma are rare vasoformative(1) neoplasms of the Nasopharynx. Due to innocuous nature of their presenting symptoms, the tumour frequently has extranasopharyngeal extensions at the time of initial diagnosis. The advances in radiographic CT techniques(2) and pre-operative embolization(3) have reduced the mortality and morbidity to a great extent. We analysed nine cases of angiofibroma with and without embolization and concluded that preoperative embolization reduces intraoperative blood loss considerably giving excellent surgical clearance of the tumour mass with minimal risk of recurrence...

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (NA) is a rare, vascular tumor affecting adolescent males. Due to aggressive local growth, skull base location and risk of profound hemorrhage, NA is a challenge for surgeons. Angiofibromas have been sporadically described in extanasopharyngeal locations. We review ten cases of extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma (ENA) and discuss the incidence, clinical presentation and management of this pathology. The group consisted of 4 males and 5 females aged 8-49. There were 7 patients with nasal angiofibroma, 1 patient with laryngeal angiofibroma, 1 patient with oral angiofibroma and another patient with infratemporal fossa tumor...

Angiofibromas of the head and neck usually arise from the nasopharynx in adolescent boys. The term extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma (ENA) has been applied to vascular fibrous nodules that arise outside the nasopharynx. Because the clinical characteristics of ENA are not consistent with those of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA), diagnosis of the former can be challenging. Biopsy is ill advised in a patient with an ENA because it might result in brisk bleeding. A high index of suspicion and a methodical evaluation are essential in establishing the proper diagnosis and treatment...
