A rare case of extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma arising from the inferior turbinate in a young female of 28 years is presented. The case is discussed in light of scant contemporary literature on the cited subject. This clinical record highlights the distinct clinical nature of Extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma (ENA) and importance of Immunohistochemistry in diagnosis of such lesions. With this case we report a rare clinical entity which presented in an extremely rare manner.

Angiofibromas are rare, benign, locally invasive vascular tumors, which represent 0.05-0.5% of all head and neck tumors. The common variant of angiofibromas of head and neck region is juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA). Angiofibroma is a benign vascular tumor that usually occurs in the nasopharynx, and extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas are rarely reported. We report the first case of an angiofibroma arising from the inferior turbinate after CO2 laser turbinoplasty. Endoscopic excisional biopsy was performed, but the tumor recurred after 2 months of surgery. The mass was excised by endoscopic approach including surrounding normal mucosal tissue. Histologic examination suggested the diagnosis of angiofibroma. The patient was asymptomatic, and there was no evidence of recurrence after 1 year of the second surgery...

Angiofibromas are histologically benign, but unencapsulated and highly vascular tumors with a potential of local destructive effect. Angiofibromas predominantly originate from the posterolateral wall of the nasopharynx. Extranasopharyngeal angiofibromas are extremely rare and mostly seen in maxillary sinus and ethmoid sinus.
