COMPARATIVE STUDY
M Harms
56 patients with nodulocystic acne, hidrosadenitis (2 cases) and steatocystoma multiplex (2 cases) were treated with oral isotretinoin. 52 patients cleared completely or were much improved without local treatment; 2 failures involved patients with steatocystoma, while 2 patients with ano-inguinal lesions were only improved. 19 patients received a dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day for six months; in 37 patients the dose was adapted to the initial response but did not exceed 1 mg/kg/day. Reversible elevated triglyceride concentration was observed in 5% of the patients...

Two cases of perianal Verneuil's disease personally observed are described. It is a rare chronic inflammation of the apocrine sweat glands in several skin areas. The exasperating chronicity and the propensity to extend of the disease involve complicated problems of diagnosis and therapy. A squamous cell carcinoma can rarely complicate long lasting hidrosadenitis. The treatment consist in a radical surgical excision of the involved areas. The patient must be controlled for a long time since the evolution of this disease cannot be foreseen...

The attention of all those having to deal in any way with diseases of the perianal region is called to a particular pyodermatitis known as suppurative hidradenitis, or Verneuil's disease, frequently confused with other inflammatory pathologies. A clinical case exemplifying the diagnosis and treatment of the disease is reported.

28 cases of moderate to severe hirsutism, two cases of acne and one case of axilary hidrosadenitis were tested continuously on average over 6 months by the daily administration of 100 mg cyproterone acetate. This drug was then given together with 1-2 mg oestradiol valerate over a further 6 month period by reversed sequential therapy. The effect of treatment was judged as being moderate only in 7 cases of idiopathic and one case of adrenal hirsutism and good in the remaining cases. However, this regimen caused a marked lowering of the urinary dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate and low polar oestrogen levels and also the plasma testosterone level...
