BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic and painful condition with negative impact on daily activity. Little information on the impact of disease-specific factors on educational level and occupational status in hidradenitis suppurativa patients has been reported. We sought to identify how disease-specific factors could influence occupational status and educational level in patients with HS. METHODS: Cross-sectional study of patients with HS seen between September 2017 and September 2018...

In this case report a 42-year-old woman presented with a long history of hidrosadenitis suppurativa (HS). Due to recurrent abscesses and post-operative complications, she underwent 69 operations in general anaesthesia as well as numerous incisions in local anaesthesia in 2013-2017. The abscesses were repeatedly treated with simple incisions, although a Danish guideline from 2016 does not recommend this procedure as treatment of patients with HS, since there is a high rate of recurrence. This illustrates the necessity of increasing knowledge of the treatment of HS...

Hidrosadenitis supurativa is a chronic inflammatory disease with great physical and psychological impact. Although conservative treatments may be effective in mild forms of the disease, extensive surgical resection and reconstruction are necessary in more severe forms of the disease. The purpose of this paper is to describe our two-stage reconstructive procedure regarding this kind of disease. We present a clinical case of a patient with severe, bilateral axillary hidrosadenitis. In the first surgical step we excised the lesions and applied the artificial dermis secured with negative pressure wound therapy...

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate the existence of an association between hidrosadenitis suppurativa and spondyloarthritis. METHODS: We performed a single-centre, cross-sectional study in patients with hidrosadenitis suppurativa followed in a tertiary care center, and in healthy volunteers without dermatological disease, matched for age (±5years) and gender. For each subject included, clinical examinations, HLA-B27 testing and sacro-iliac MRI were performed in order to diagnose spondyloarthritis according to the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS) criteria...

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis is a disorder where abscesses appear after the infection of the apocrine sweat glands. It is located normally in the axillae, groin, perineal region, and the scalp. CLINICAL CASE: A 37 year old male was referred by his GP to the General Surgery Department with axillary hidradenitis which had evolved over the years. The physical examination shows signs of hidradenitis in both axillae, with a noticeable suppurative hidradenitis in the right armpit...

SAPHO syndrome is an uncommon clinical entity, recently described in literature, which usually affects children, young adults and middle-aged people. It is defined by the association of skin lesions (severe acne, palmo-plantar pustulosis, supurative hidradenitis), synovitis, hiperosthosis and osteitis; however, not all manifestations are required for correct diagnosis. We report a currently forty-two year-old man who initiated follow-up in 1992 for severe acne. His diagnosis changed along the years and has been treated with antibiotics many times to control pustule formation and hidrosadenitis, which evolved to keloidal scars, requiring neck zethaplasty due to limitation of mobility...

Smoking is the main modifiable cause of disease and death in the developed world. Tobacco consumption is directly linked to cardiovascular disease, chronic bronchitis, and many malignant diseases. Tobacco also has many cutaneous effects, most of which are harmful. Smoking is closely associated with several dermatologic diseases such as psoriasis, pustulosis palmoplantaris, hidrosadenitis suppurativa, and systemic and discoid lupus erythematosus, as well as cancers such as those of the lip, oral cavity, and anogenital region...
