The occurrence and development of diabetic foot ulcers is associated with neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, and infection. Several growth factors are involved in these processes, including epidermal growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor, transforming growth factor-beta, fibroblast growth factor, and erythropoietin, which could promote wound healing of patients with diabetes.
