Placental abnormalities more frequently occur during pregnancy of somatic cell clones and may lead to pregnancy loss or dystocia. Adventitious placentation, or diffuse semi-placenta, is determined by the development of areas of accessory placentation between the cotyledons due to the abnormal growth of placentomes. After a full-term pregnancy, a 3-year-old Jersey heifer was referred for dystocia which resulted in the delivery of a dead calf. The cause of dystocia was found to be foetal malposition, while the placenta was physiologically expelled after dystocia resolution...

We report a young pregnant woman with large midline thoracic mass and markedly elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels. Initially suspected as a germ cell tumour (GCT) due to age, site, and high AFP levels, a biopsy unveiled a high-grade malignant tumour characterised by undifferentiated monotonous cells. Although tumour cells exhibited positive AFP, the overall immunoprofile did not provide additional evidence to support GCT. Further work-up showed positive for NUT (nuclear protein in testis) immunostaining and the presence of BRD4-NUT1 fusion, confirming the diagnosis of NUT carcinoma...

The purpose of this study is to report the clinical application of Hominis Placenta Pharmacopunture for Alopecia areata. Patient was diagnosed as stress-induced Alopecia areata 1 years ago. To reduce symptom, we treated a patient 8 times using Hominis Placenta Pharmacopunture. Hominis Placenta was injected subcutaneously into the lesion of head scalp alopecia. According to photographs, the lesion had been replaced with new terminal hair and the size of the lesion had decreased. This case has shown that stress-induced Alopecia areata patient could be treated by Hominis Placenta Pharmacopunture...

Exposure to air pollutants has been associated with adverse health outcomes in adults and children who were prenatally exposed. In addition to reducing exposure to air pollutants, it is important to identify their biologic targets in order to mitigate the health consequences of exposure. One molecular change associated with prenatal exposure to air pollutants is DNA methylation (DNAm), which has been associated with changes in placenta and cord blood tissues at birth. However, little is known about how air pollution exposure impacts the sperm epigenome, which could provide important insights into the mechanism of transmission to offspring...

Populations identified to be severely affected by COVID-19, such as pregnant patients, require special consideration in vaccine counseling, access, and provider education. Maternal infection with COVID-19 poses a significant risk to the maternal-fetal dyad with known adverse placenta destruction [1-5]. Despite the widespread access and availability of vaccinations, vaccine hesitancy continues to persist and is highly prevalent in pregnant populations [6-9]. Addressing the multitude of social ecological factors surrounding vaccine hesitancy can aid in providing holistic counseling [10]...

OBJECTIVE: Placenta accreta belongs to placenta accreta spectrum and is defined by an adhesion or even invasion of the placental villi in the myometrium. The main risk factor is a history of cesarean section. Its incidence is increasing following an increase in the cesarean section rate in recent years and the cause of severe maternal morbidity (hemorrhage, transfusions, hysterectomy). Treatment can be radical by cesarean section-hysterectomy or conservative with an attempt at uterine preservation...

Early embryo development requires the differentiation of three cell lineages in two differentiation events. The second lineage specification differentiates the inner cell mass into epiblast, which will form the proper foetus, and hypoblast, which together with the trophectoderm will form the extraembryonic membranes and the foetal part of the placenta. MEK signalling pathway is required for hypoblast differentiation in mouse embryos, but its role in ungulate embryos remains controversial. The aim of this work was to analyse the role of MEK signalling on hypoblast specification at the blastocyst stage, and on hypoblast migration during post-hatching stages in vitro in the ovine species...

The clinical data of these patients were analyzed, and they were divided into 2 groups: the IPH group and the non-IPH group based on the presence of IPH. The differences in data between the 2 groups were compared, and the risk factors for IPH were analyzed...

Jeune syndrome, or asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy (JATD), is a rare autosomal recessive skeletal dysplasia with heterogeneous genetic and clinical phenotypes, which primarily affects cartilage and bone development. Herein, we report a patient with a lethal form of SRTD3 without polydactyly (JATD), which led to severe restrictive lung disease and fatal respiratory failure. A full-term boy was born to a 30-year-old mother who was known to have hypothyroidism and was on thyroxine. The parents were first-degree cousins and had one healthy older son...

INTRODUCTION: Around 1 in 1000-2000 pregnancies are affected by a cancer diagnosis. Previous studies have shown that chemotherapy during pregnancy has reassuring cognitive and cardiac neonatal outcomes, and hence has been proposed as standard of care. However, although these children perform within normal ranges for their age, subtle differences have been identified. Given that chemotherapeutic compounds can cross the placenta, the possibility that prenatal chemotherapy exposure mutates the offspring's genome and/or epigenome, with potential deleterious effects later in life, urges to be investigated...

Exploring the intricacies of managing high-risk pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), placenta previa, and a single umbilical artery requires a comprehensive understanding of their etiologies, mechanisms, and treatment recommendations. This case report delves into the clinical course of a 34-year-old smoker with a pre-pregnancy body mass index of 14.2 kg/m2 , shedding light on the considerations posed by a pregnancy in which several risk factors are superimposed on one another. IUGR, affecting 10%-15% of pregnancies, elevated the risk of adverse outcomes during labor and delivery, necessitating careful antenatal monitoring...

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multisystem disorder that presents with a variety of phenotypes involving metabolic, endocrine, reproductive, and psychological symptoms and signs. Women with PCOS are at increased risk of pregnancy complications including implantation failure, miscarriage, gestational diabetes, fetal growth restriction, preterm labor, and pre-eclampsia (PE). This may be attributed to the presence of specific susceptibility features associated with PCOS before and during pregnancy, such as chronic systemic inflammation, insulin resistance (IR), and hyperandrogenism, all of which have been associated with an increased risk of pregnancy complications...

OBJECTIVES: Fetoscopic laser coagulation of placental anastomoses is usually performed for a treatment of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). A common complication of fetoscopic laser coagulation for TTTS is preterm preliminary rupture of fetal membranes (PPROM) aggravating the neonatal outcome significantly. In mammals, the placenta is a connection between a mother and a new developing organism. This tissue has a protective function against some microorganisms, transports nutrients, and exchanges gases and excretory substances between the mother and the fetus. Placental tissue is mainly composed of chorionic villi functional units called trophoblasts (cytotrophoblasts, the syncytiotrophoblast, and extravillous trophoblasts). However, some viruses have developed mechanisms that help them invade the placenta, causing various conditions such as necrosis, poor perfusion, and membrane rupture which, in turn, can impact the development of the fetus and put the mother's health at risk...

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome is a metabolic and hormonal disorder that is closely linked to oxidative stress. Within individuals diagnosed with PCOS, changes occur in the ovaries, resulting in an excessive buildup of iron and peroxidation of lipids, both of which may be associated with the occurrence of ferroptosis. Baicalein, a flavonoid found in the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis and widely known as Chinese skullcap, is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-ferroptotic properties, which protect against various diseases...

The results demonstrated that women with SPPH had a high proportion of placenta accrete (53.0%). Bakri IUBT demonstrated a global effectiveness of 84.5% in SPPH treatment, accounting for 82.9% in women with placenta accrete...
