Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of copy number variation sequencing (CNV-seq) to detect the deletion or duplication of DMD gene in prenatal diagnosis. Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out on the CNV-seq results of 34 544 fetuses diagnosed in the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province from January 2018 to July 2023. A total of 156 cases of fetuses were collected, including Group 1:125 cases with family history of Duchenne muscular dystrophy or Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD/BMD), and Group 2:31 cases with no family history but a DMD gene deletion or duplication was detected unexpectedly by CNV-seq...

BACKGROUND: Vaginal foreign bodies represent a clinical and diagnostical challenge in pediatric gynecology. Several case reports, case series and retrospective studies have been published, highlighting rare or complex cases. A comprehensive systematic review is lacking. METHODS: Published English-language articles on vaginal foreign objects in patients aged 16 years and younger, with full-text availability were included. Articles on adult patients and patients with an object migrating from the abdominal cavity into the vagina were excluded...

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth is a major cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. It is unclear whether the introduction of a universal transvaginal ultrasound cervical length screening program in women at low risk for preterm delivery is associated with a reduction in the frequency of preterm birth. OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that the introduction of a midtrimester universal transvaginal ultrasound cervical length screening program in asymptomatic singleton pregnancies without prior preterm delivery would reduce the rate of preterm birth at <37 weeks of gestation...

In the dermatological spectrum of oncologic manifestations, cutaneous metastases from endometrial carcinoma stand as a rarity, given the tumour's predilection for neighbouring uterine regions. We present an exceptional case of a patient in her mid-50s, whereby an endometrial carcinoma, defying conventional pathways, manifested on the skin and nail of her distal fourth finger, an unusual site for cutaneous metastases, with a specific histology of the primary cancer.

BACKGROUND: The gold standard treatment for advanced pelvic organ prolapse is sacrocolpopexy. However, the pre-operative features of prolapse that predict optimal outcomes are unknown. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to develop a clinical prediction model that uses pre-operative scores on the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification examination to predict outcomes after minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy for stages 2, 3, and 4 uterovaginal prolapse and vaginal vault prolapse. STUDY DESIGN: A two-institution database of pre- and post-operative variables from 881 cases of minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy was analyzed...

BACKGROUND: Maternal deaths resulting from opioid use disorder (OUD) have been rising across the United States. OUD among pregnant persons is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes including preterm birth along with racial disparities in optimal OUD care. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate whether the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative's (ILPQC) implementation of the Mothers and Newborns affected by Opioids - Obstetric quality improvement initiative was associated with improvement of OUD identification, provision of optimal OUD care for birthing patients, and reduction in racial gaps of optimal OUD care...

OBJECTIVE: To examine the prenatal profiles of pregnancies affected by an atypical chromosomal aberration, focusing on pathogenic copy number variants (pCNVs). Further, we wanted to quantify the performance of combined first-trimester screening (cFTS) and a second-trimester anomaly scan in detecting these conditions. Finally, we aimed to estimate the consequences of a policy of using non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) rather than invasive testing with chromosomal microarray (CMA) to manage pregnancies identified as high risk from cFTS...

OBJECTIVES: The finding of an abdominal cyst during pregnancy has an estimated prevalence of 1 in 1000 pregnancies, mostly in second and third trimester. The detection of a fetal abdominal cyst during the first trimester scan is a rare event, whose natural history and prognosis are often unknown and unpredictable as these anomalies can be related to various underlying conditions and originate from different structures. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcome of fetal abdominal cysts detected in the first trimester in order to understand their possible clinical significance and to offer the proper management according to the available data...

OBJECTIVES: Predicting whether balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) will be necessary after birth for fetuses with d-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) remains challenging. We sought to determine whether measurements obtained during fetal maternal hyperoxygenation (MH) testing can improve our ability to predict need for postnatal BAS. METHODS: Forty-one mothers carrying fetuses with d-TGA with either intact ventricular septum or small ventricular septal defect measuring <3mm underwent MH testing between 33-38 weeks gestation...

OBJECTIVE: Twin pregnancies are at an increased risk of stillbirth compared to singletons. Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a leading cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity, in both singleton and multiple pregnancies. Whether the contribution of FGR to stillbirth in twin pregnancies differs from that in singletons is yet to be determined. The main aim of this study was to determine the association between FGR and stillbirth in twin compared to singleton pregnancies. The secondary objectives include an assessment of the contribution of FGR to stillbirths, stratified by gestational age at delivery...

Spontaneous previable rupture of membranes complicates approximately 0.4-0.7% of pregnancies and is associated with severe maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Intra-amniotic inflammation is present in up to 94.4% of cases, most often caused by a bacterial infection. In comparison, the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy in its eradication reaches less than 17%. Inflammatory activity in the amniotic cavity disrupts the physiological development of the fetus with an increase in maternal, fetal, and neonatal inflammatory morbidity through the development of fetal inflammatory response syndrome, maternal chorioamnionitis, and neonatal sepsis...

In 2021, the Preconception Health Network Australia co-developed preconception health core indicators identified as critical to ensuring optimal maternal and child outcomes following conception. We conducted an audit of perinatal databases across each state and territory to identify whether preconception core indicator data were available. Seven health domains co-developed by the Preconception Health Network were mapped against the data collected in the perinatal databases. Indicator data were lacking across all seven health domains, with data missing for social determinants of health indicators...

BACKGROUND: Birthing people with de novo postpartum hypertensive disorders remain among the highest risk for severe maternal morbidity. Randomized controlled trials demonstrate a benefit to oral loop-diuretics in decreasing postpartum hypertensive morbidity in patients with an antenatal diagnosis of preeclampsia. It is not known whether this same therapy benefits patients at risk for new-onset postpartum hypertension OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether oral furosemide can reduce risk for de novo postpartum hypertension (dnPPHTN) among high-risk birthing people by reducing post-delivery blood pressure...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Vasomotor symptoms (VMS) are the most common symptoms during menopause including hot flushes and night sweats. They are highly disruptive to the quality of life. Fezolinetant is an FDA-approved non-hormonal selective neurokinin3 receptor antagonist for the treatment of VMS. In this study, we aim to assess the efficacy and safety of fezolinetant for VMS associated with menopause. METHODS: Databases were searched until September 2023 for relevant studies comparing fezolinetant against placebo...
