BACKGROUND: To evaluate the clinical outcomes after the implantation of a new trifocal diffractive intraocular lens (IOL) combined with Enhanced depth of focus (EDOF) technology. METHODS: The study enrolled 80 eyes of 40 patients who underwent cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of a diffractive trifocal IOL (Reviol Tri-ED) designed with a combination of enhanced depth of focus. Mean age was 52.09 ± 11.32 years (range from 45 to 70 years). Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), corrected intermediate visual acuity (CIVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), corrected near visual acuity (CNVA), keratometry (K), and manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) were evaluated pre- and postoperatively...

Maxillary segmental defects are a reconstructive challenge particularly when the anterior arch is involved. Missing bone, mucosa, and teeth should be replaced; fistulae closure should be guaranteed by bone and mucosa continuity; stable functional occlusion should be achieved; and facial aesthetics restored. These defects resulting from tumor excisions, if left untreated, will cause additional problems related to interposed scar and collapse of lip and nose. Immediate reconstruction should avoid these problems and should be considered when safe tumor-free margins are obtained...

PURPOSE: To compare Nd:YAG capsulotomy rates following implantation of two diffractive trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). METHODS: This multi-center retrospective analysis included patients who underwent uncomplicated lens phacoemulsification and were implanted with a diffractive trifocal IOL: FineVision MicroF (PhysIOL, Liège, Belgium) or AT Lisa tri 839MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany). All surgeries were performed during the same period. The postoperative follow-up period was at least 1 year...

PURPOSE: The visual performance of monofocal, bifocal, and trifocal intraocular lenses was evaluated by human individuals using a vision simulator device. This allowed investigation of the visual impression after cataract surgery, without the need actually to implant the lenses. METHODS: The randomized, double-masked, three-way cross-over study was conducted on 60 healthy male and female subjects aged between 18 and 35 years. Visual acuity (Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study; ETDRS) and contrast sensitivity tests (Pelli-Robson) under different lighting conditions (luminosities from 0...

PURPOSE: To analyze the effect of decentration on the optical quality of two diffractive-refractive intraocular lenses, a bifocal and a trifocal, when displaced laterally (horizontal direction) from the center. METHODS: The AT LISA 809M IOL (+3.75 D add) with two main foci and the AT LISA tri 839MP intraocular lens with three main foci (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) were analyzed. The optical quality of the intraocular lenses was measured with the PMTF (power and modulation transfer function [MTF] measurement for refractive and diffractive intraocular lenses) optical bench (Lambda-X, Nivelles, Belgium)...

Synchronous colorectal cancers (SCRCs) have been increasingly diagnosed due to emerging diagnostic modalities. The presence of three or more synchronous colorectal cancers has, however, only rarely been reported. A 76-year-old white man presented for management of two concurrent colorectal adenocarcinomas in the left colon evidenced on total colonoscopy. Preoperative abdominal ultrasonography and thoracoabdominal computed tomography were negative for metastatic disease. The patient underwent an elective left hemicolectomy...

Because of the high failure rates, large alveolar cleft defects cannot be successfully closed with bone grafting. Vega introduced the use of the hyrax screw for the closure of such defects by distraction osteogenesis. However, his technique was more invasive with a difficult adaptation of the appliance at the surgical table. To overcome these limitations, a completely tooth-borne trifocal distraction appliance was devised and placed after osteotomy in a 22-year-old repaired group 3 cleft patient who had a 15-mm alveolar defect on the right side...

In this paper, a trifocal tensor-based approach is proposed for the visual trajectory tracking task of a nonholonomic mobile robot equipped with a roughly installed monocular camera. The desired trajectory is expressed by a set of prerecorded images, and the robot is regulated to track the desired trajectory using visual feedback. Trifocal tensor is exploited to obtain the orientation and scaled position information used in the control system, and it works for general scenes owing to the generality of trifocal tensor...

PURPOSE: To assess photopic and mesopic vision in patients implanted with 2 different trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). METHODS: Fifty patients with cataract in both eyes had surgery with bilateral implantation of a trifocal FineVision (FV, n = 25) or AT LISA tri 839MP (LisaTri, n = 25) IOL. Three months after surgery, high-contrast photopic uncorrected distance visual acuity and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) were determined using the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study test...

We report on a case in which trifocal distraction osteogenesis was applied in a patient with a mandibular defect caused by resection of an ossifying fibroma. During the surgical procedure, we accidentally dissected the surrounding periosteal tissue of the left transport completely in the process of transport disc preparation and made the disc into a free bone graft. However, we still used this transport and successfully completed the distraction osteogenesis. The patient's facial and occlusal function were regained after treatment...

PURPOSE: To compare the visual acuity (VA) and quality of vision between bilateral implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) and blended bifocal IOLs with an intermediate add in the dominant eye and a near add in the nondominant eye. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with either trifocal or blended bifocal IOLs implanted were recruited after surgery. Subjects returned for a single diagnostic visit between 3 and 24 months after surgery. VA was tested at various distances, including low-contrast acuity and acuity at their preferred reading distance...
