Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly malignant cancer with poor prognosis. Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) may play an important role in tumor progression. Our present study aimed to explore the effect of LncRNA SOX2OT on GC progression. We observed that SOX2OT was overexpressed in GC tissues and cell lines. Overexpressed SOX2OT promoted cell proliferation and metastasis of GC cells (SGC-7901, TMK-1) and the phosphorylation of AKT2 as well, while knockdown of SOX2OT reversed these effects. Besides that, miR-194-5p was predicted to be a target of SOX2OT and decreased expression of miR-194-5p was observed in GC tissues and cell lines...

The role of non-coding RNAs in determining growth, productivity and recombinant product quality attributes in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells has received much attention in recent years, exemplified by studies into microRNAs in particular. However, other classes of non-coding RNAs have received less attention. One such class are the non-coding RNAs known collectively as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). We have undertaken the first landscape analysis of the lncRNA transcriptome in CHO using a mouse based microarray that also provided for the surveillance of the coding transcriptome...

Ameliorated renal function has been reported after bariatric surgery, but the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon are not well-studied. To investigate whether the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) MALAT1 mediates the amelioration of diabetic nephropathy after duodenal-jejunal bypass (DJB) surgery, rats were assigned randomly into four groups: diabetic (DM) group, DM with DJB surgery group, DM with sham surgery group, and healthy control group. Food intake, body weight, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), urine albumin excretion rate (UAER), and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) were measured and histological examination of renal sections was performed...

Background: Dysregulated expression of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been reported in the pathogenesis and progression of multiple cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). LncRNA CTD-2547G23.4 is a novel lncRNA, and its role in HCC is still unknown. Here, we aimed to clarify the expression pattern and clinical value of CTD-2547G23.4 and to investigate the prospective regulatory mechanism via bioinformatics analysis in HCC. Methods: To identify differentially expressed lncRNAs in HCC, we downloaded RNA-Seq data for HCC and adjacent non-tumour tissues via The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)...

Despite substantial declines in mortality following myocardial infarction (MI), subsequent left ventricular remodeling (LVRm) remains a significant long-term complication. Extracellular small non-coding RNAs (exRNAs) have been associated with cardiac inflammation and fibrosis and we hypothesized that they are associated with post-MI LVRm phenotypes. RNA sequencing of exRNAs was performed on plasma samples from patients with "beneficial" (decrease LVESVI ≥ 20%, n = 11) and "adverse" (increase LVESVI ≥ 15%, n = 11) LVRm...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Studies have reported that Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 antisense 1 (ZEB1-AS1) is overexpressed in many malignant tumors. However, the sample size in those studies was limited, so the clinicopathological and prognostic value of ZEB1-AS1 in solid tumors remains undetermined, Accordingly, the aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the relationship between the expression of lncRNA ZEB1-AS1 and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in patients with solid tumors...

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) were discovered in tumors. The regulation of lncRNA in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) remains incomplete. Uncovering the potential of lncRNA to stratify the prognosis of LSCC and streamline the vast amount of clinical information will affect medical interventions. The surgical resected LSCC tissues, adjacent non-cancerous tissues (ANCT) and lymph node metastatic tissue (LNM) were collected from 76 patients for lncRNA AC008440.10 expression assay. The stages of LSCC and LNM were classified accordingly...

Since comprehensive analysis of the mammalian genome has revealed that the vast majority of genomic products are transcribed in long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), increasing attention has been paid towards these transcripts. The applied next-generation sequencing technologies have provided accumulating evidence of dysregulated lncRNAs in cancer. The implication of this finding may be seen in many forms and at multiple levels. With impacts ranging from integrating chromatin remodeling complexes to regulating transcription and post-transcriptional processes, aberrant expression of lncRNAs may have repercussions in cell proliferation, tumor progression or metastasis...

Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) is a model organism for understanding host-pathogen interactions and infection-mediated carcinogenesis. Gastric cancer and H. pylori colonization indicates the strong correlation. The progression and exacerbation of H. pylori infection are influenced by some factors of pathogen and host. Several virulence factors involved in the proper adherence and attenuation of immune defense to contribute the risk of emerging gastric cancer, therefore analysis of them is very important...

Dysregulation of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) plays important roles in cancer development and progression. In this work, we attempted to develop a lncRNA signature to improve prognosis prediction of colorectal cancer. A comprehensive analysis for the lncRNA expression and corresponding clinical information of 344 colorectal patients has been performed based on the data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). We randomly divided TCGA data into a training set ( n = 172) and a testing set ( n = 172). A four-lncRNA signature has been established which was significantly associated with the overall survival of colorectal cancer patients...

Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) has received much attention as a major inducer of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) during cancer progression, mainly by activating a set of pleiotropic transcription factors including SNAI2/Slug. However, the involvement of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in TGF-β-induced Slug activation and EMT remains largely unknown. Methods: In this study, we used microarray analysis to compare lncRNA expression profiles between TGF-β treated and untreated breast cancer cells...

Transposable elements (TEs) are often regarded as harmful genomic factors and indeed they are strongly suppressed by the epigenetic silencing mechanisms. On the other hand, the mobilization of TEs brings about variability of genome and transcriptome which are essential in the survival and evolution of the host species. The vast majority of such controlling TEs influence the neighboring genes in cis by either promoting or repressing the transcriptional activities. Although TEs are highly repetitive in the genomes and transcribed in specific stress conditions or developmental stages, the trans -acting regulatory roles of TE-derived RNAs have been rarely studied...

High-throughput analyses have revealed that the vast majority of the transcriptome does not code for proteins. These non-translated transcripts, when larger than 200 nucleotides, are termed long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and play fundamental roles in diverse cellular processes. LncRNAs are subject to dynamic chemical modification, adding another layer of complexity to our understanding of the potential roles that lncRNAs play in health and disease. Many lncRNAs regulate transcriptional programs by influencing the epigenetic state through direct interactions with chromatin-modifying proteins...

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies in humans. Despite advances in early detection and treatment of PC, the prognosis is still limited. LncRNA myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT) is found abnormally expressed in a variety of cancers. However, the role of MIAT in PC is still unknown. This study aimed to explore whether MIAT was related to the progression of PC and the underlying mechanism. Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assay validated that miR-133 may target MIAT 3'-UTR...

Osteosarcoma is a prevalent primary malignant tumor and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been validated to modulate the osteosarcoma tumorigenesis. In present study, our research team investigates the role of a novel identified lncRNA DICER1-AS1 on the tumor progression and autophagy. Results showed that lncRNA DICER1-AS1 was up-regulated in osteosarcoma cells using microarray analysis and RT-PCR. Cellular functional experiments revealed that DICER1-AS1 knockdown suppressed the proliferation, migration, invasion and autophagy of osteosarcoma cells in vitro...

Dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs is a newly identified mechanism for tumour progression. Previous studies have suggested that the nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT) gene plays a very important role in cancer growth and metastasis. However, lncNRON is a newly identified repressor of NFAT, and its function is largely unknown, especially in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Therefore, the expression levels of lncNRON in 215 pairs of HCC tissue were evaluated by qRT-PCR, and its relationship to clinicopathological parameters, recurrence, and survival was analysed...

Benzo [a]pyrene (BaP) have been demonstrated to induce lung cancer risk in humans and many different animal models, with aberrant gene methylation as one of the epigenetic errors; however, the molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we used three types of human lung-derived cells with BaP exposure as a model and attempted to investigate the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) H19/S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (SAHH) pathway that regulates gene methylation in vitro exposure to BaP. Results showed that compared to the controls, BaP-treated cells H19 expressions were increased in a dose- and time-dependent manner, whereas SAHH protein expressions were decreased...

Accumulating evidence has indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are critically involved in tumor progression. In current study, we reported a novel lncRNA signature correlated with bladder cancer development. Particularly, the lncRNA long stress-induced noncoding transcript 5 (LSINCT5) is significantly upregulated in human bladder cancer cell lines and tumor specimens. Meanwhile, high LSINCT5 expression correlates with poor prognosis, enhances tumor sphere formation and invasion in vitro. In vivo xenograft tumor growth is also elevated by LSINCT5 overexpression...
