Even without legal ownership, groups can experience objects, places, and ideas as belonging to them ('ours'). This state of mind-collective psychological ownership-is understudied in social psychology, yet it is central to many intergroup conflicts and stewardship behaviour. We discuss our research on the psychological processes and social-psychological implications of collective psychological ownership. We studied territorial ownership, in different parts of the world and at different geographical levels, offering not only a cross-national but also conceptual replication of the processes...

BACKGROUND: Circulating biomarkers of bone metabolism are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) in men with advanced prostate cancer. In the SWOG S1216 phase III trial, we showed that elevated bone biomarkers are significantly associated with an increased risk of death in hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (HSPC) regardless of the status of bone metastases, identifying three risk groups with differential OS outcomes based on bone biomarker status. Here we report the association of bone biomarkers with OS in men with HSPC and documented skeletal metastases as part of a planned subset analysis of S1216...

BACKGROUND: : Tumor survival, promotion, and metastatic functions are regulated by the tumor microenvironment (TME). The primo vascular system (PVS), the third circulatory system in animals, is currently thought to be a highly effective pathway for the spread of cancer cells. OBJECTIVES: : In the present study, we intend to determine the TME effects on the PVS pattern in breast cancer for the first time. METHODS: : Heterotopic and orthotopic metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) mice models were created...

BACKGROUND: : Acupuncture, practiced for millennia, lacks a clear anatomical definition for acupoints. A prevailing theory suggests that acupoints overlap with skin areas with higher mast cell density. Skin spots stained with intravenously infused Evans blue (EB), indicative of neurogenic inflammation, have recently been posited as acupoints in rats. OBJECTIVES: : To demonstrate the concordance between EB-reactive skin spots and mast cell-enriched acupoints. METHODS: : We employed staining and RNA-seq analysis to delineate the morphological characteristics and gene expression profiles of EB-reactive skin spots in rats...

Our objective was to know the COVID-19 vaccination coverage in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and its factors associated. A retrospective cohort study was carried out. Patients seen at the MS unit of the University Clinical Hospital of Zaragoza between 2017 and 2021 were included. Variables were obtained by reviewing the specialized and primary care records. Associations between receiving COVID-19 full primo-vaccination, as well as one booster dose since autumn 2022, and the other variables were analyzed using bivariate analysis and multiple logistic regression models...

The study aims to identify antibacterial properties in unfertilized eggs of Scyliorhinus canicula and Scyliorhinus stellaris. Despite challenging marine conditions, these eggs retain their integrity for extended periods and remain unaffected by pathogens. The antibacterial activity was measured using minimum inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentration analysis. The eggs of S. stellaris exhibited a slight inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes, whereas both species' eggs showed no activity against gram-negative microorganisms...

The involvement of androgens in the regulation of energy metabolism has been demonstrated. The main objective of the present research was to study the involvement of androgens in both the programming of energy metabolism and the regulatory peptides associated with feeding. For this purpose, androgen receptors and the main metabolic pathways of testosterone were inhibited during the first five days of postnatal life in male and female Wistar rats. Pups received a daily s.c. injection from the day of birth, postnatal day (P) 1, to P5 of Flutamide (a competitive inhibitor of androgen receptors), Letrozole (an aromatase inhibitor), Finasteride (a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor) or vehicle...

OBJECTIVE: A mounting body of literature is showing that, in the clinical and general population, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or autistic traits (ATs) would appear to be spread along a continuum, reaching the highest levels among individuals affected by other mental disorders, such as borderline personality disorder (BPD) and bipolar disorder (BD). Furthermore, individuals with ASD or ATs appear to be more vulnerable to psychological traumas, with greater likelihood of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and BD...

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 epidemic still calls for anticipation aimed at preventing the overloading of critical care services. With this in mind, the predictive value of easily accessible biomarkers is to be assessed. OBJECTIVE: Secretion of calprotectin is stimulated during an inflammatory process, especially in the cytokine storm. We tried to determine whether early plasma concentration of calprotectin in patients with primary SARS-CoV-2 infection could predict an adverse outcome in cases of COVID-19...

OBJECTIVES: Sarcopenia is characterized by the loss of muscle mass. Skeletal muscle can produce and secrete different molecules called myokines. Irisin and myostatin are antagonistic myokines, and to our knowledge, no studies of both myokines have been conducted in patients with disease-related malnutrition (DRM). This study aimed to investigate the role of circulating irisin and myostatin in sarcopenia in patients with DRM. METHODS: The study included 108 outpatients with DRM according to the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition criteria...

BACKGROUND: The phenomenon of field cancerization reflects the transition of normal cells into those predisposed to cancer. Assessing the scope and intensity of this process in the colon may support risk prediction and colorectal cancer prevention. METHODS: The SWEPIC study, encompassing 1,111 participants for DNA methylation analysis and a subset of 84 for RNA-seq, was employed to detect field cancerization in individuals with adenomatous polyps (AP). Methylation variations were evaluated for their discriminative capability, including in external cohorts, genomic localization, clinical correlations, and associated RNA expression patterns...

BACKGROUND: Monte Carlo simulation of radiation transport for medical linear accelerators (linacs) requires accurate knowledge of the geometrical description of the linac head. This approach limits the possibility of achieving an arbitrarily small statistical uncertainty...

This study aims to evaluate the hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic and aortic morphometric effects of fish oil rich in omega-3 in hypercholesterolemic BALB/c mice. In vitro propagation, also known as micropropagation, has become the most widely employed method for blackberry propagation, as it overcomes the limitations of the traditional asexual propagation methods (mainly layering and cutting). In this context, synthetic seed technology represents a strategy to enhance the productivity of in vitro propagation and facilitates the exchange of plant materials between laboratories, contributing to germplasm conservation. This study aimed to identify the most suitable vegetative propagule for the encapsulation of blackberry...

BACKGROUND: Progression diets after bariatric surgery (BS) are restricted in calories and protein, and they may induce a worsening of body composition.
