PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Topical therapies are a mainstay of treatment for mild psoriasis and may be a useful adjunct in treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis. This review summarizes recent advances in topical therapies for psoriasis and currently available treatments. RECENT FINDINGS: Topical aryl hydrocarbon receptor modulators (tapinarof) and topical phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors (roflumilast) have been proven effective in randomized controlled trials for psoriasis...

BACKGROUND: To illustrate how (standardised) effect sizes (ES) vary based on calculation method and to provide considerations for improved reporting. METHODS: Data from three trials of tanezumab in subjects with osteoarthritis were analyzed. ES of tanezumab versus comparator for WOMAC Pain (outcome) was defined as least squares difference between means (mixed model for repeated measures analysis) divided by a pooled standard deviation (SD) of outcome scores. Three approaches to computing the SD were evaluated: Baseline (the pooled SD of WOMAC Pain values at baseline [pooled across treatments]); Endpoint (the pooled SD of these values at the time primary endpoints were assessed); and Median (the median pooled SD of these values based on the pooled SDs across available timepoints)...

Targeted efforts to better understand the barriers and facilitators of stakeholders and healthcare settings to implementation of exercise and education self-management programmes for osteoarthritis (OA) are needed. This study aimed to explore the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark (GLA:D), a supervised group guideline-based OA programme, across Irish public and private healthcare settings. Interviews with 10 physiotherapists (PTs; 8 public) and 9 people with hip and knee OA (PwOA; 4 public) were coded by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) constructs in a case memo (summary, rationale, quotes)...

METHODS: Multicentre observational study, with retrospective analysis of a prospective cohort, using data from the Rheumatic Diseases Portuguese Registry-Reuma.pt. OBJECTIVES: Ectopic bone deposition plays an important role in osteoarthritis (OA) and in arterial wall disease. We aimed to investigate the prevalence and progression of arterial calcifications on whole-body computed tomography (CT) in persons with knee OA. METHODS: We included 118 (36 male) participants who satisfied the clinical American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for knee OA. Baseline investigations included Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and Kellgren-Lawrence grading...

OBJECTIVES: To describe the longitudinal study and long-term prognosis of multicentre large inception cohort of patients with anti-SAE positive DM. METHODS: We retrospectively recruited patients with anti-SAE+DM in four tertiary referral centers from China between March 2005 and December 2022. Long-term survival analysis was performed in the enrolled patients. The Myositis Damage Index (MDI) and Cutaneous Disease Area and Severity Index (CDASI) were used to evaluate the degree of different organ damage and the extent of skin rashes...

OBJECTIVES: Epigenetically modified fibroblasts contribute to chronicity in inflammatory diseases. Reasons for the relapsing character of large vessel vasculitis (LVV) remain obscure, including the role of fibroblasts, in part due to limited access to biopsies of involved tissue.68Ga FAPI-46 (FAPI)-PET/CT detects activated fibroblasts in vivo. In this exploratory pilot study, we tested the detection of fibroblast activation in vessel walls using FAPI-PET/CT in LVV with aortitis. METHODS: 8 LVV patients with aortitis and 8 age- and gender-matched controls were included...

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a remitting-relapsing systemic autoantibody and immune complex disease with a similar clinical presentation to that of malignancy and infection. The authors report a case of newly diagnosed SLE and lupus nephritis in a 48-year-old woman with constitutional symptoms and unintentional weight loss. Her presentation was further complicated by pericardial effusion and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) facial cellulitis and bacteremia. In the context of nonspecific symptoms and a wide initial differential diagnosis, the early consideration of rheumatologic etiologies and the involvement of consultant services led to appropriate diagnostic testing and a timely diagnosis...

The central importance of the biopsychosocial model of chronic disease is increasingly recognised in the management of long-term conditions (LTC), which are often associated with chronic pain, fatigue and disability. Despite the physical and mental health impact, 'struggle' to maintain self-efficacy, gap in effective transition to adult pathways and long term consequences of poor disease control and lifestyle choices in young people with LTCs, innovation in this age range is rarely reported in generic journals...

OBJECTIVES: Using an integrated multi-omic analysis, we previously derived a candidate marker that estimates the modified Rodnan Skin Score (mRSS) and thus the severity of skin involvement in SSc. In the present study we explore technical and biological validation of this composite marker in a well-characterized cohort of SSc patients. METHODS: Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), collagen type IV (COL4A1), tenascin-C (TNC) and spondin-1 (SPON1) were examined in serum samples from two independent cohorts of patients with dcSSc...

Myofascial pain is a soft tissue pain syndrome with local and referred musculoskeletal pain arising from trigger points. Myofascial pain and myofascial pain syndromes are among some of the most common acute and chronic pain conditions. Myofascial pain can exist independently of other pain generators or can coexist with or is secondary to other acute and chronic painful musculoskeletal conditions. Myofascial pain is most effectively treated with a multimodal treatment plan including injection therapy (known as trigger point injections, physical therapy, postural or ergonomic correction, and treatment of underlying musculoskeletal pain generators...

In Mexico, epidemiologic data on the incidence of different rheumatic diseases in geriatric patients are scarce. OBJECTIVE: To describe the physical characteristics of geriatric SF and the prevalence of crystals in knee and other joint aspirates from patients with previously diagnosed joint disease.
