A Micromonospora strain, designated DS3186(T), isolated from sediment collected from the Black Sea off the Yason Peninsula, Ordu, Turkey, was examinated using a polyphasic approach. The strain was found to have chemotaxonomic, morphological and phylogenetic properties consistent with its clasification in the genus Micromonospora. A comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the strain was closely related to the type strains of Micromonospora olivasterospora (99.0 %), Micromonospora equina (98...

BACKGROUND: To estimate a classifier's error in predicting future observations, bootstrap methods have been proposed as reduced-variation alternatives to traditional cross-validation (CV) methods based on sampling without replacement. Monte Carlo (MC) simulation studies aimed at estimating the true misclassification error conditional on the training set are commonly used to compare CV methods. We conducted an MC simulation study to compare a new method of bootstrap CV (BCV) to k-fold CV for estimating clasification error...

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is one of the severe forms of mental illness which demands enormous personal and economical costs. Recent years have attracted considerable interest in the dual problem of depression in schizophrenia and its relation to insight. Most clinicians believe that poor insight in patients with schizophrenia, though problematic for treatment adherence, may be protective with respect to suicide. The assumption is that patients who do not believe that they are ill are less likely to be suicidal...

Salting-out thin-layer chromatography of several chosen sulphonamides on silica gel has been examined with aqueous solutions of salts: sulphates, chlorides, nitrates, phosphates, acetates, thiocyanates. It was established that applied salts have different effects on retention of sulphonamides accordingly to Hofmeister's clasification (e.g. kosmotropes, chaotropes and neutral). The parameters of the linear regression analysis of dependences between the R(M) values and concentration of the salt in the eluent system were correlated with QSAR ones...

We are reporting a retrospective study of 21 adults diagnosed of laryngo-tracheal stenosis and admitted to our Department between 1990 and 2001. In 9 cases (42.85%) it was due to prolonged orotracheal intubation; other 10 were secondary to tracheostomy (47.62%) and the rest, to coniotomy. We have studied and analysed these variables: Age, gender, personal history, level of stenosis, its grade according to Cotton's clasification, treatment and clinical evolution with an average follow-up of 12 months. Our main goal was to get people to know on experience with this pathology and to carry out a literature review in order to compare our data and results with other published series...

Here, we present a new clasification system for the effects of diabetes mellitus (DM) on carotid artery by using neurofuzzy system. Blood flow hemodynamics were obtained from 118 carotid arteries of 59 patients with DM by using 7.5 MHz transducer and Doppler-M unit. Vmax = peak systole, Vmin = end diastole, resistive index (RI), and pulsatile index (PI) were measured with the use of Doppler sonography. These values were applied to neurofuzzy system using NEFCLASS model. With the increase of epoch from 200 to 500 and pruning of fuzzy rules, our classification system was found to be successful in 85% of the cases...
