The gene BrABCG26 responsible for male sterility of Chinese cabbage was confirmed by two allelic mutants. Male-sterile lines are an important way of heterosis utilization in Chinese cabbage. In this study, two allelic male-sterile mutants msm3-1 and msm3-2 were obtained from a Chinese cabbage double haploid (DH) line 'FT' by using EMS-mutagenesis. Compared to the wild-type 'FT,' the stamens of mutants were completely degenerated and had no pollen, and other characters had no obvious differences. Cytological observation revealed that the failure of vacuolation of the mononuclear microspore, accompanied by abnormal tapetal degradation, resulted in anther abortion in mutants...

BACKGROUND: The features of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) range from occurrence of asymptomatic radiological markers to symptomatic characteristics that include cognitive deficits and gait decline. The aim of the present study was to examine whether handwriting movement is abnormal in older people with CSVD through handwriting and drawing tasks using digitized handwriting kinematic assessment technology. METHODS: Older subjects ( n = 60) were grouped according to Fazekas score, with 16 in the Severe CSVD group, 12 in the Non-severe group and 32 in the Healthy group...

Research has established that two cognitive processes, cognitive control and irrelevant stimulus-response (S-R) learning, may underlie the proportion congruency effect, which refers to the findings that the size of interference effects (e.g., the Stroop, Simon, or Eriksen flanker effect) reduces with increasing the proportion of incongruent trials. Further studies have begun to investigate the interaction between these two cognitive processes, which not only provide more plausible accounts for empirical data, but also advance theories...

It was tentatively placed in L.sect.Ligulariaser.Ligularia on the basis of the pinnate-palmate leaf venation, racemose synflorescence and pappus which is as long as tubular corolla. Within the series, it appeared somewhat close to both L.lamarum and L.pseudolamarum . However, L.lushuiensis can be easily distinguished from the latter two species by, among other characters, the leaf margin, bract size, involucre shape and size, and number and width of ray florets...

In the Chinese character writing task performed by robotic arms, the stroke category and position information should be extracted through object detection. Detection algorithms based on predefined anchor frames have difficulty resolving the differences among the many different styles of Chinese character strokes. Deformable detection transformer (deformable DETR) algorithms without predefined anchor frames result in some invalid sampling points with no contribution to the feature update of the current reference point due to the random sampling of sampling points in the deformable attention module...

There is no converging evidence on how a word's semantic transparency affects morphemes' potential semantic activation. The inconsistent results may be due to the limitation of traditional univariate analyses, in which the semantic transparency was treated as discrete categories. In the current study, Chinese two-character words were used as stimuli and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques were combined with a priming paradigm. Unlike most previous studies, the multivariate representation similarity analysis (RSA) was used to treat semantic transparency as a continuous variable...

BACKGROUND: Mutations in MPZL2, the characteristic genetic etiology of autosomal recessive deafness loci 111 (DFNB111), cause non-syndromic and moderate sensorineural hearing loss. METHODS: In this study, we analyzed the phenotype and genotype of eight pedigrees consisting of 10 hearing loss patients with bi-allelic pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in MPZL2. These patients were identified from a 3272 Chinese patient cohort who underwent genetic testing. RESULTS: Apart from symmetrical and moderate sensorineural hearing loss, the MPZL2-related phenotype was characterized by progressive hearing loss with variation in the onset age (congenital defect to onset at the young adult stage)...

Metastases and drug resistance are the major risk factors associated with breast cancer (BC), which is the most common type of tumor affecting females. Icariin (ICA) is a traditional Chinese medicine compound that possesses significant anticancer properties. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in a wide variety of biological and pathological processes and have been shown to modulate the effectiveness of certain drugs in cancer. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential effect of ICA on epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) and stemness articulation in BC cells, as well as the possible relationship between its inhibitory action on EMT and stemness with the NEAT1/TGFβ/SMAD2 pathway...

The influence of orthographic neighbors on visual word recognition is well established in alphabetic scripts. To determine the universality of this effect across writing systems, researchers have been keen on exploring its presence and nature in Chinese word recognition. Given that Chinese is logographic, it necessitates a different definition for orthographic neighbors from the ones used in alphabetic scripts. One popular approach is to consider words that share characters as orthographic neighbors. Adopting this definition, a facilitative effect has been observed for characters that can create more words...
