We report a case of pubic symphysis diastasis, which was initially asymptomatic; however, it became symptomatic with urinary incontinence during pregnancy. The patient was treated with open reduction and internal fixation of the symphysis pubis. A corticocancellous autograft was used for filling the gap which remained despite bilateral compression of the iliac bones. We obtained satisfactory outcome in terms of symptoms at the 3 years' follow-up; however, there was instability findings in the X-rays with broken screws...

PURPOSE: To evaluate clinical features and the effect of parathyroid hormone (PTH) on treatment outcomes of patients with pelvic insufficiency fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients diagnosed with pelvic insufficiency fractures were evaluated retrospectively. All patients had osteoporosis with mean lumbar T score of -3.9 (range, -3.1 to -6.4) and the mean age was 76.5 years. In all cases, simple radiography and computed tomography was used for final diagnosis; additional magnetic resonance imaging and technetium bone scans were used to confirm the diagnosis in 2 and 6 patients, respectively...

Abelisaurid theropods were most abundant in the Gondwana during the Cretaceous Period. Pycnonemosaurus nevesi Kellner & Campos, 2002 was the first abelisaurid dinosaur described from the Bauru Group (Brazil, Upper Cretaceous). Nevertheless, its initial description was based on the comparison of a restricted number of remains with other abelisaurids. In this paper, I present a new description of the morphology of Pycnonemosaurus nevesi, including three new caudal transverse processes and a discussion of several new characteristics based on perspectives derived from recently described abelisauroids...

Chronic anterior pelvic ring instability can cause pain and disability. Pain typically is localized to the suprapubic area or inner thigh; often is associated with lower back or buttock pain; and may be exacerbated by activity, direct impact, or pelvic ring compression. Known etiologies of chronic anterior pelvic ring instability include pregnancy, parturition, trauma, insufficiency fractures, athletics, prior surgery, and osteitis pubis. Diagnosis often is delayed. Physical examination may reveal an antalgic or waddling gait, tenderness over the pubic bones or symphysis pubis, and pain with provocative maneuvers...

Phthiriasis palpebrarum is a rare type of eyelid infestation. In the present study, a 63-year-old woman presented with a case of phthiriasis palpebrarum, which was initially misdiagnosed as anterior blepharitis. The patient had a 2-month history of repeated episodes of itching and burning sensations and moderate pain in both eyes that were not improved by antibiotic and corticosteroid eye drops. Slit lamp examination revealed lice and nits anchored to the eyelashes. All eyelashes were removed from the base along with lice and nits...

The buried penis, also called hidden or concealed penis, is associated with morbid obesity or seen after massive weight loss in adults. In highly obese, bariatric patients, the penile shaft invaginates into the pre-pubic fat masses, resulting in voiding problems and urine wetting of the surrounding tissue. This leads to infection, skin maceration, lichen sclerosus and eczema. Sole circumcision without mons pubis plasty or penile fixation does not suffice to alleviate the discomfort and leads to recurrence. In post-bariatric patients, penile retraction is only partially present or absent, but abundant pre-pubic skin tissue forms an apron covering the genitals with problems in hygiene and sexual intercourse...

Diplodocids are among the best known sauropod dinosaurs. Numerous specimens of currently 15 accepted species belonging to ten genera have been reported from the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous of North and South America, Europe, and Africa. The highest diversity is known from the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation of the western United States: a recent review recognized 12 valid, named species, and possibly three additional, yet unnamed ones. One of these is herein described in detail and referred to the genus Galeamopus...

Fecaloma is common in patients with damage to the autonomic nervous system in the large bowel associated with Chagas disease (inflammatory and neoplastic) or Hirschprung's disease, in psychiatric patients and, more commonly, in elderly patients suffering with chronic constipation. Symptoms of fecaloma are usually nonspecific. Clinical examination can give the appearance of an abdominal tumor. Most cases of fecaloma are treated conservatively with digital evacuation and enemas. In severe and unremitting cases, surgery is required to prevent significant complications...

Vaginal delivery is commonly accepted as a risk factor in pelvic floor dysfunction; however, other obstetric procedures (episiotomy) are still controversial. In this work, to analyze the relationship between episiotomy and pelvic floor function, a finite element model of the pelvic cavity is used considering the pelvic floor muscles (PFMs) with damaged regions from spontaneous vaginal delivery and from deliveries with episiotomy. Common features assessed at screening of pelvic floor dysfunction are evaluated during numerical simulations of both Valsalva maneuver and contraction...

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Translabial ultrasound (TLUS) has shown good correlations between clinical examination and imaging findings in the supine position, and limits of normality have been described. This is not the case for imaging in the standing position. This study was designed to test the hypothesis that different cutoff values are required for imaging in the standing position. METHODS: This was a retrospective study carried out in a tertiary urogynecological unit in women presenting with symptoms of lower urinary tract and pelvic floor dysfunction between August 2013 and December 2015...

Graham-Little-Piccardi syndrome (GLPS) is a rare form of follicular lichen planus and comprises cicatricial alopecia of the scalp, noncicatricial alopecia of the axillae, and/or pubis and spinous follicular papules involving the trunk and extremities. We herein report a classic case of GLPS in a 49-year-old female. Uniqueness of our case is due to its additional features of frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA). Although overlap between GLPS and FFA has been mentioned in literature, such numbers are scanty. Therapeutic response with oral steroid and retinoid is also far better in contrast to what is described in the existing literature...

OBJECTIVES: Following penile prosthesis implantation (PPI), patients may complain of a decrease in visible penis length. A dorsal phalloplasty defines the penopubic junction by tacking pubic skin to the pubis, revealing the base of the penis. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a dorsal phalloplasty in increasing the visible penis length following PPI. METHODS: An inflatable penile prosthesis was implanted in 13 patients with severe erectile dysfunction (ED) at the Kamal Shaeer Hospital, Cairo, Egypt, from January 2013 to May 2014...

Review of the English orthopaedic literature reveals no prior report of endoscopic repair of rectus abdominis tears and/or prepubic aponeurosis detachment. This technical report describes endoscopic reattachment of an avulsed prepubic aponeurosis and endoscopic repair of a vertical rectus abdominis tear immediately after endoscopic pubic symphysectomy for coexistent recalcitrant osteitis pubis as a single-stage outpatient surgery. Endoscopic rectus abdominis repair and prepubic aponeurosis repair are feasible surgeries that complement endoscopic pubic symphysectomy for patients with concurrent osteitis pubis and expand the less invasive options for patients with athletic pubalgia...
