Solar-driven photocatalytic reactions offer a promising route to clean and sustainable energy, and the spatial separation of photogenerated charges on the photocatalyst surface is the key to determining photocatalytic efficiency. However, probing the charge-separation properties of photocatalysts is a formidable challenge because of the spatially heterogeneous microstructures, complicated charge-separation mechanisms and lack of sensitivity for detecting the low density of separated photogenerated charges. Recently, we developed surface photovoltage microscopy (SPVM) with high spatial and energy resolution that enables the direct mapping of surface-charge distributions and quantitative assessment of the charge-separation properties of photocatalysts at the nanoscale, potentially providing unprecedented insights into photocatalytic charge-separation processes...

IMPORTANCE: The utility of pudendal nerve blocks (PNBs) at the time of transvaginal surgery is mixed in the literature. No published study has evaluated the efficacy of PNB since the widespread adoption of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine if PNB, in addition to ERAS measures, at the time of vaginal reconstructive surgery reduces opioid use in the immediate postoperative period. STUDY DESIGN: In this randomized, blinded, controlled trial, women scheduled for transvaginal multicompartment prolapse repair were randomized to bilateral PNB before incision with 20 mL of 0...

A surface photovoltage (SPV) is observed whenever a doped semiconductor with non-negligible band bending is illuminated by light and charge carriers are excited across the band gap. The sign of the SPV depends on the nature of the doping, the amplitude of the SPV increases with the fluence of the light illumination up to a saturation value, which is determined by the doping concentration. We have investigated Si(100) samples with well-characterized doping levels over a wide range of illumination fluences. Surprisingly, the sign of the SPV upon illumination with 532 nm photons reverses for some p-doping concentrations at high fluences...

IMPORTANCE: Nocturnal lower urinary tract symptoms are part of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and urogynecology clinics may serve as OSA screening sites. OBJECTIVE: This study's aim was to determine the accuracy of nocturia and nocturnal enuresis (NE) as screening tools for OSA in new patients at a urogynecology clinic. STUDY DESIGN: Using a retrospective study design, we gathered information regarding diagnostic OSA testing, continuous positive airflow pressure use, and lower urinary tract symptoms improvement from women in a urogynecology clinic who were previously screened for OSA using validated questionnaires...

IMPORTANCE: Since transvaginal mesh (VM) kits for apical pelvic organ prolapse (APOP) were labeled "high-risk" in 2016 and subsequently banned in 2019 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the most common remaining surgical options include abdominal mesh-augmented sacrocolpopexy (AS) and transvaginal native tissue suspension (VN). OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine temporal trends in APOP procedures for urologists and gynecologists. STUDY DESIGN: Between 2011 and 2020, the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database was queried for AS, VM, and VN...

IMPORTANCE: Routine screening for urinary incontinence (UI) by primary care providers (PCPs) is recommended. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to describe the rate of incident UI diagnosed at annual PCP visits, the prevalence of UI in a large primary care population, and estimate the rate of screening for UI during primary care preventive and annual wellness visits. Secondary aims were to describe PCP knowledge and behavior as they relate to UI screening and diagnosis. STUDY DESIGN: The electronic health record was used to abstract the number of adult female patients seen by PCPs within a regional health system with a diagnosis of UI before our study period and with a new diagnosis over a 2-year period...

IMPORTANCE: Telehealth offers advantages to patients with pelvic floor disorders because they face unique barriers to care; however, attendance of telehealth appointments is unknown. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to examine the attendance of telehealth appointments in urogynecology patients receiving pelvic floor physical therapy as compared with in-person visits before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. STUDY DESIGN: We retrospectively collected electronic medical record data from patients engaging in pelvic floor physical therapy from 2019, and pre- and post-COVID-19 in 2020...

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a notifiable viral disease caused by Lumpy Skin Disease virus (LSDV). It is usually associated with high economic losses, including a loss of productivity, infertility, and death. LSDV shares genetic and antigenic similarities with Sheep pox virus (SPV) and Goat pox (GPV) virus. Hence, the LSDV traditional diagnostic tools faced many limitations regarding sensitivity, specificity, and cross-reactivity. Herein, we fabricated a paper-based turn-on fluorescent Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) sensor for the rapid detection of LSDV...

Traditionally, isolated and non-isolated boost converters are used for solar photovoltaic systems (SPV). These converters have limitations such as low voltage gain, less voltage ripples, temperature dependence, high voltage stress across the switches, and being bulky in size. Besides, the solar PV system also has non-linear characteristics between I-V and P-V, and the energy yield potential is affected by partial shading phenomena. Therefore, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is being added to the SPV system to get the maximum output power under steady and dynamic climate conditions...

In the field of obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN), the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) administers an annual in-training examination to all OB/GYN residents as a formative educational tool for assessing medical knowledge and promoting self-improvement. Although the CREOG examination is not designed or intended for knowledge certification, many OB/GYN subspecialty fellowship programs request and use CREOG examination scores as a metric to evaluate fellowship candidates. Among the 57 gynecology-based urogynecology fellowship programs, 30 programs (53%) request CREOG examination scores to be submitted by candidates, as of March 2023...

BACKGROUND: In liver transplant patients with hypoplastic portal vein (PV), when the narrowed segment is extended too deep into the dorsal side of the pancreas, it is difficult and dangerous to reconstruct the interposition graft from the upper part of the pancreas. Herein, we present a case of PV reconstruction with the autologous mesosystemic shunt vessel from the caudal side of the pancreas in a situation where the narrowed PV was deep, and we discuss the technical details.
