Socket wall resorption leading to a loss of surrounding bone following tooth extraction has been documented in the dental literature. The use of various socket-shield techniques has been suggested as a solution to this issue. In these approaches, the tooth root is sectioned in two, and the coronal two-thirds of the buccal root is preserved in the socket. This allows the periodontium along with the bundle and buccal bone to remain intact, thus preventing or minimizing bone remodeling. According to the literature, this procedure is highly technique sensitive, especially when it comes to sectioning the root...

BACKGROUND: The success of any dental prosthesis depends on aesthetics and function. A proper shade selection is a prime requisite for providing aesthetics to dental patients. PURPOSE: This study aims to compare the photographic method of shade selection with that of a digital spectrophotometer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 50 participants. The primary inclusion criterion was the presence of the maxillary left central incisor without a history of restorative or endodontic procedures...

Numb chin syndrome (NCS) is hypesthesia of the mandible and lower lip caused by damage to the inferior alveolar or mandibular nerves, commonly due to dental treatment or osteomyelitis, but occasionally caused by malignant tumors. We report the case of a male in his 60s. He came to our hospital with a chief complaint of mandibular pain and paresthesia in the right side of the mental region. He had noticed swelling of the left mandible one month before the initial visit and strong hypesthesia of the right side of the mental region one week before the initial visit...

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The possibility of triggering the trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR) during oral surgery is considerably lower than that during other surgeries. A reduced heart rate (HR) of ≥20% from baseline is usually considered a diagnostical criterion for the TCR. Our automated anesthesia charting system often revealed cases of slight transient HR decrease during sedation. We aimed to explore its incidence and associated factors during local anesthesia administration under intravenous sedation...

AIM AND OBJECTIVES: We investigated associations between NNS habits (NNSHs), developing malocclusion, and various feeding practices in 3-6-year-old children. METHODOLOGY: A sample of 350 children 3-6-year-old from various preschools were selected for this case-control study (94 with NNSH and 256 without NNSH). INTRODUCTION: Maxillary anterior teeth that have not erupted may substantially alter the appearance of the teeth and face. Orthodontists often encounter a clinical challenge while dealing with an impacted maxillary incisor, which creates space problems in the anterior region. The purpose of this paper is to describe the well-synchronized orthodontic and surgical treatment of a horizontally impacted maxillary central incisors. Barodontalgia, barometric pressure-induced dental pain, may occur during hyperbaric oxygen(HBO2 ) therapy due to pressure changes. This case report presents an 8-year-old male patient with barodontalgia. The patient declared a severe toothache during HBO2 therapy. The diving medicine specialist referred the patient to the dental clinician immediately. On clinical examination, the pain was thought to be caused by caries lesions of the deciduous teeth in the left maxillary molar region. Tooth extraction was suggested...

OBJECTIVES: Occlusal sensitivity (OS)-the ability to detect fine objects between opposing teeth-mainly relies on the activity of mechanoreceptors located in the periodontal ligament. We tested whether somatosensory amplification (SSA)-the tendency to perceive normal somatic sensations as being intense, noxious, and disturbing, which plays a critical role in hypervigilance-affects OS. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We measured OS in 66 adults divided into three groups based on their SSA scores (LowSSA, Intermediate - IntSSA, HighSSA) by asking them to bite on aluminum foils (8 to 72 μm thick) and a sham foil, and report whether they felt each foil...

Bone augmentation techniques have been used in atrophic ridges to attain appropriate bone volume and enable dental implant insertion. By reducing the need for autogenous bone and decreasing morbidity at the donor sites, the use of bone substitutes has improved patient comfort and satisfaction. One of the major challenges in implant dentistry is achieving an optimal esthetic result with implant-supported crowns in the esthetic zone. Multiple prosthetic and surgical aspects need to be carefully planned and executed to achieve the final esthetic result...

Treatment of edentulous and atrophic mandibular fractures is extremely difficult. Generally, mandibular fractures are repaired and fixed as internal fixation using a reconstruction plate or miniplates with intra- or extraoral approach. Few cases in which external fixation including a transmucosal fixation was performed have also been reported. We report a case of atrophic and edentulous mandibular fracture which was healed by the fixation using dental implants and implant-supported bridge.

UNLABELLED: Odontogenic space infections are common in dental practice, characterized by localized abscess formation with potential to spread to adjacent anatomical spaces. Neurogenic involvement in odontogenic infections is primarily found to be associated with sensory nerve branches, however involvement of motor nerves in odontogenic space infection leading to facial asymmetry has not been widely reported. In this case report, the authors present an unusual finding of facial asymmetry due to isolated marginal mandibular nerve weakness in a patient with a submandibular space infection...

Reconstruction of maxillary defects can be carried out by a variety of treatment modalities. The choice of modality depends on numerous factors including the size and extent of the defect, patient factors and existing comorbidities. One of the various options is reconstruction and rehabilitation using a fixed prosthesis supported over zygomatic implant. In maxillectomy cases, zygomatic implant can be used to improve the retention of the obturator prosthesis as loss of alveolar bone makes it impossible to use conventional endosseous implants...
