Micro rna 223

Adam M Sheikh, Heather Yvonne Small, Gemma Currie, Christian Delles
BACKGROUND: Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a complex, multi-systemic condition of pregnancy which greatly impacts maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. MicroRNAs (miRs) are differentially expressed in PE and may be important in helping to understand the condition and its pathogenesis. METHODS: Case-control studies investigating expression of miRs in PE were collected through a systematic literature search. Data was extracted and compared from 58 studies to identify the most promising miRs associated with PE pathogenesis and identify areas of methodology which could account for often conflicting results...

Sepsis is as life-threatening organ failure caused by a dysregulated host response to infection, with urgent onset, complex mechanism and high mortality. Its early diagnosis and treatment is particularly important. However, the sensitivity and specificity of current laboratory markers for the diagnosis of sepsis is not ideal. MicroRNAs represent a novel group of small RNA molecules that do not encode for proteins. MicroRNAs are synthesized in the cytoplasm and transferred to circulation primarily by micro-vesicles, and they are stable in circulation and can be rapidly detected...

STUDY QUESTION: What proteins are carried by extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from normal first trimester placentae? SUMMARY ANSWER: One thousand five hundred and eighty-five, 1656 and 1476 proteins were characterized in macro-, micro- and nano-vesicles, respectively, from first trimester placentae, with all EV fractions being enriched for proteins involved in vesicle transport and inflammation. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Placental EVs are being increasingly recognized as important mediators of both healthy and pathological pregnancies...
