Three new homochiral metal bromides, namely, (l-Htp)2 Cu2 Br4 ( 1 ), (l-Htp)(l-tp)CdBr3 ( 2 ), and (l-tp)2 ZnBr2 ( 3 ), were prepared using l-thioproline as the chiral template. These compounds feature dimeric, chainlike, and monomeric structures. Their second-harmonic-generation (SHG) efficiencies are 0.1, 0.3, and 2.0 times that of KH2 PO4 , respectively. Density functional theory calculations were performed to reveal the origin of the SHG response of compound 3 .

Human mesh recovery aims to estimate all human meshes within a given image. In this paper, we propose an Instance-aware Multi-person 3D Human Mesh Recovery (InstaHMR) network based on the one-stage framework. Compared to former one-stage methods, instance-aware single person feature is exploited to represent more accurate human mesh. Specifically, we propose the Contextual Instance Guidance (CIG) module which generates instance-aware single person feature by leveraging spatial and channel attention operations...

INTRODUCTION: Non-combustible nicotine products (NCNPs), such as heated tobacco products (HTPs) and nicotine vaping products (NVPs) have gained a significant nicotine market share in South Korea. This descriptive study examined patterns of regular cigarette and NCNP use among South Korean adults. METHODS: Data were from the 2020 International Tobacco Control Korea Survey and included 4016 adults (aged ≥19 years) in the Republic of Korea who were regularly (at least weekly) using at least one NCNP (NVP/HTP, n=2117) and/or smoked cigarettes (n=3763) at the time of the survey...

Pigeonpea has potential to foster sustainable agriculture and resilience in evolving climate change; understanding bio-physiological and molecular mechanisms of heat and drought stress tolerance is imperative to developing resilience cultivars. Pigeonpea is an important legume crop that has potential resilience in the face of evolving climate scenarios. However, compared to other legumes, there has been limited research on abiotic stress tolerance in pigeonpea, particularly towards drought stress (DS) and heat stress (HS)...

Heated tobacco products (HTPs) are non-combustible, inhaled tobacco products that generate an aerosol with fewer and lower levels of toxicants, with a potential to reduce risk relative to cigarette smoking. Here, we assessed in vitro toxicological effects of three menthol (glo neo neoCLICK, neo Smooth Menthol and Fresh Menthol) and one non-menthol (neo Smooth Tobacco) variants of glo HTP, along with market comparators for cigarettes and HTPs. Limited chemical characterization of the study products revealed significantly lower levels of acetaldehyde, acrolein, crotanaldehyde and formaldehyde in test samples from HTPs than those from cigarettes...

This study aims to investigate the correlation of plasma 5-HT precursors and metabolite with bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover markers in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) patients. METHODS: The age, body mass index (BMI), and years since menopause (YSM) were documented for 348 postmenopausal women in normal/osteopenia/osteoporosis (OP) groups, with lumbar spine and femoral neck BMD measured...

As reversible fluorescent probes, HTP-1 and HTP-2 have favourable applications for the detection of Zn2+ and H2 S. Herein, the impact of solvent on the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) of HTP-1 and HTP-2 was comprehensively investigated. The obtained geometric parameters and infrared (IR) vibrational analysis associated with the intramolecular hydrogen bond (IHB) indicated that the strength of IHB for HTP-1 was weakened in the excited state. Moreover, structural torsion and almost no ICT behaviour indicated that the ESIPT process did not occur in HTP-1...

ConspectusCircularly polarized luminescence (CPL) generated by chiral luminescent systems has sparked enormous attention in multidisciplinary field as it brings infinite potential for applications, such as 3D optical displays, biological probes, and chiroptical sensors. Satisfying both the conditions of chirality and luminescence (including fluorescence or phosphorescence) is a prerequisite for constructing CPL materials. In this regard, whether in organic, inorganic, or hybrid systems, chiral and luminescent components generally involve effective coupling through covalent or noncovalent bonds...

Our previous study showed promising results in replicating early-stage atherosclerosis when vascular endothelial cells (VECs) were exposed to cigarette smoke (CS) extract via M0 macrophages. We used an organ-on-a-chip system as an alternative to animal testing to model atherosclerosis, which is a complex disease involving endothelial and immune cell communications. By incorporating macrophages into the vascular-on-a-chip system, we aimed to mimic the indirect effects of inhalable substances, such as CS, on VECs...

Hypergolic propellants rely on fuel and oxidizer that spontaneously ignite upon contact, which fulfill a wide variety of mission roles in launch vehicles and spacecraft. Energy-rich carboranes are promising hypergolic fuels, but triggering their energy release is quite difficult because of their ultrastable aromatic cage structure. To steer the development of carborane-based high-performance hypergolic material, carboranylthiolated compounds integrated with atomically precise copper clusters are presented, yielding two distinct isomers, Cu14B-S and Cu14C-S , both possessing similar ligands and core structures...

Saprotrophic fungi that cause brown rot of woody biomass evolved a distinctive mechanism that relies on reactive oxygen species (ROS) to kick-start lignocellulosic polymers' deconstruction. These ROS agents are generated at incipient decay stages through a series of redox relays that shuttle electrons from fungus's central metabolism to extracellular Fenton chemistry. A list of genes has been suggested encoding the enzyme catalysts of the redox processes involved in ROS's function. However, navigating the functions of the encoded enzymes has been challenging due to the lack of a rapid method for protein synthesis...

STUDY QUESTION: What is the association between first trimester maternal tryptophan (TRP) metabolites and embryonic and fetal growth? SUMMARY ANSWER: Higher 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) concentrations are associated with reduced embryonic growth and fetal growth and with an increased risk of small-for-gestational age (SGA), while higher kynurenine (KYN) concentrations are associated with a reduced risk of SGA. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The maternal TRP metabolism is involved in many critical processes for embryonic and fetal growth, including immune modulation and regulation of vascular tone...
