In patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), reduced exercise capacity can be a predictor for late complications and may be used to guide interventions. Yet, the interpretation of exercise capacity is challenged by changes in body composition during growth. Our aim was to create an overview of disease-specific exercise capacity in children with CHD. We performed a multicentre retrospective study of exercise capacity of CHD patients, aged 6-18 years, tested between January 2001 and October 2018. Sex-specific distribution graphs were made using the LMS method and height to relate to body size...

REVIEW
Marco Rossi, Giorgio Giorgi
Domperidone is a prokinetic agent widely prescribed in adults and children with gastrointestinal disorders. Recently several Regulatory Agencies published safety information on the risk of long QT syndrome associated with the use of domperidone. We conducted a literature review using PubMed (1966 - Jan 2010) with the aim to locate articles on ventricular arrhytmias, Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD), long QT syndrome and Torsade de Pointes (TdP) following domperidone administration. Twenty-two papers were included in the review: three studies in vitro models, one animal study, five case reports/series, twelve clinical studies and one editorial...

The study deals with the incidence and clinical significance of mitral valve prolapse in the population of outpatient pediatric cardiology patients in the time period from November 1999 to April 2004. The sample included 1187 children of both sexes, 688 of whom had a structural cardiac anomaly (57.9%), and the prolapse was diagnosed in 51 children (4.3%), largely female (f:m = 7.5:1). The average age at establishing diagnosis was 12.4 +/- 2.9 years (range 6-19 years). The children were followed 3.1 +/- 0.9 years (1-4 years of age)...

The authors report a series of 299 operated cases betwen 1966 and August 1975. The operative mortality was 16%, usually a result of low output states and arrhytmias. Long-term survival was 74% at 3 years and 64% at 6 years, being better in those with only one valve replacement. The late results were very good taken as a whole. The few poor results were associated especially with a degenerating myocardium. The mitral group were favoured with a better 5 year survival rate and by clinically, and above all haemodynamically severe tricuspid incompetence...
