CASE: Background: CD is an inflammatory disease that predominantly affects the gastrointestinal tract and has a progressive course. Immunodeficiencies can occur by altering different components of innate or adaptive immune responses. Such changes put the patient at greater risk for infectious diseases or non-infectious complications. Among the non-infectious complications are cancer, autoimmune diseases and gastrointestinal diseases, which should be suspected in patients with recurrent infections, with clinical, radiological or histological features of the disease are atypical or in the occurrence of an unsatisfactory response to conventional therapy...

Several nosologic conditions may affect the esophagus and cause fistulas communicating this organ with the respiratory system. Rarely, infections cause perforation and further fistula to the bronchial tree, lungs or pleural space. We present the rare case of an HIV-infected patient with related spontaneous esophago-pleural fistula related to Candida infection.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to describe and illustrate the radiographic findings of colonic histoplasmosis in patients with AIDS. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Four HIV-positive patients were admitted because of fever, abdominal pain, tenderness, weight loss, and diarrhea. One patient had known disseminated histoplasmosis, one had esophageal moniliasis, and two had no other known opportunistic infections or tumors. Esophageal inflammatory disease is an unusual cause of stridor in infants and children. Pediatric patients with upper respiratory tract obstructive symptoms secondary to foreign body esophagitis and esophageal moniliasis are presented. The importance of esophageal abnormalities as a potential cause of stridor is emphasized.
