Pulmonary metastases from colorectal cancer present as systemic manifestation of the disease. As a general principle, the presence of metastases predispose to a poor prognosis. However, the application of some criteria of "operability" permitted the surgical resection resulting in prolonged survival (reported 5-year survival up to 50%), in better quality of life and in the cure of some patients. When the primary tumor site is controlled, and the metastatic disease is limited in lungs without extrapulmonary location (except for resectable or resected hepatic lesion) surgical removal is indicated...

Most Chinese characters are composed of a semantic radical on the left and a phonetic radical on the right. The semantic radical provides the semantic information; the phonetic radical provides information concerning the pronunciation of the whole character. The pseudo-characters in the study consisted of different sub-lexical parts of real Chinese characters and consequently they also had the semantic radical and the phonetic radical. But they were not readable and had no actual meaning. In order to investigate the spatiotemporal cortical activation patterns underlying the orthographic, phonological and semantic processing of Chinese characters, we used event-related brain potentials (ERPs) to explore the processing of Chinese characters and pseudo-characters when 14 healthy Chinese college students viewed the characters passively...

The pentadactyl scheme is common to all tetrapods, even in case of adaptative phenomenon (five digits are observed during ontogenesis), or in case of functional convergence The carpal organization with two rows is common too, if we take into account the desappearing of the central bones in mature man. The sellar shape of the trapeziometacarpal joint of the thumb, to often attributed to Man and his only thumb, is in fact the regular shape of all carpometacarpal articulations and present in very ancient primitive primate fossils...

To test whether impaired glutathione redox status may be related to lens oxidative damage in humans, we measured glutathione (total and oxidised forms) and malondialdehyde, a lipid peroxidation product, in clear lenses and diabetic and non-diabetic cataracts. Diabetic cataracts were divided into 2 subgroups with either intact or abnormal haemo-ocular barrier as evaluated by preoperative iridography. Decreased total glutathione values were observed in cataractous (diabetic and non-diabetic) as compared to clear lenses (p < 0...

The patients here concerned had a faulty psychical development. During the caracter-building period of early childhood they were unable, to assert themselves sufficiently enough to be accepted, or to feel that they are loved. Therefore they tried by means of overcompensatory efforts in the sense of extreme adjustment to others, to make up for this lack. Increasingly confined, as a preponderant attitude they finally developed a forced "assistant" pose (W. Schwidder). Under these circumstances the personality of the patients could not develop sufficiently in the way, that they were able to make free decisions by maintaining legitimate interests of selfassertion...

An incidence of HBs Ag of 1.83% (2.75% in males and 1.24% in females) without any statistically important differences in the age groups and habitual residence and also the grade of G6PD eritrocytary activity was detected.
