OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical manifestations and identify independent diagnostic predictive factors for Crohn's disease (CD) initially diagnosed as appenicitis and treated by surgery. METHODS: The medical records of patients diagnosed as acute appendicitis upon admission and treated by surgical operation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2000 to December 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. We propose minimum entropy rate simplification (MERS), an information-theoretic, parameterization-independent framework for simplifying generative models of stochastic processes. Applications include improving model quality for sampling tasks by concentrating the probability mass on the most characteristic and accurately described behaviors while de-emphasizing the tails, and obtaining clean models from corrupted data (nonparametric denoising). The phase diagram of (Fe(1-x) Mn(x))(3)C has been investigated by means of density-functional theory (DFT) calculations at absolute zero temperature. The atomic distributions of the metal atoms are not random-like as previously proposed but we find three different, ordered regions within the phase range. The key role is played by the 8d metal site which forms, as a function of the composition, differing magnetic layers, and these dominate the physical properties. We calculated the magnetic moments, the volumes, the enthalpies of mixing and formation of 13 different compositions and explain the changes of the macroscopic properties with changes in the electronic and magnetic structures by means of bonding analyses using the Crystal Orbital Hamilton Population (COHP) technique...

The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of gravity and sport on the hamstrings-quadriceps strength relationships. The peak torques at four speeds of isokinetic exercise (60, 180, 240, 300 degrees /sec) were determined for 20 male college track athletes, including 10 sprinters and 10 distance runners. The runners were tested on a Cybex(R) II isokinetic dynamometer. Peak torque measurements were corrected for the effects of gravity. Results of the present study showed that: 1) the effects of gravity significantly alters the hamstrings to quadriceps ratio at all velocities, and 2) there is no statistically significant difference in the hamstrings quadriceps strength ratios between the two groups of athletes except at 300 O/sec...
