Two experiments were performed to evaluate the reproductive performance of zebu beef cows treated with different doses of eCG at the end of a progesterone (P4)/estrogen based protocol for timed artificial insemination (TAI). In Experiment 1, suckling Bos indicus Nelore cows (n = 261) received, on day 0, a progesterone (P4) intravaginal device (PD) and an injection of 1 mg estradiol benzoate (EB). On day 8, the PD was removed, 500 μg of cloprostenol was injected, and cows were assigned to one of the following groups: Control (no treatment), 300 (300 IU of eCG), 600 (600 IU of eCG), and 900 (900 IU of eCG)...

The inclusion of pre-pubertal bovine females in reproductive management could allow in vitro embryo production and reduce generation interval, thereby causing faster genetic gain of the herd. However, oocytes of pre-pubertal females have lower competence, blastocyst production, and pregnancy rates than those collected from pubertal animals. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of an induced hormonal stimulation on the serum concentrations of Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and FSH, ovarian responses, ovum pick up (OPU), and in vitro produced embryos (IVP) from oocytes obtained from four-to seven-months old Nelore female cattle...

Luteinizing hormone (LH) and chorionic gonadotropin (CG) are glycoproteins fundamental for sexual development and reproduction. Since they act on the same receptor (LHCGR), there is a general consensus that LH and hCG are equivalent. However, separate evolution of LHβ and hCGβ subunits occurred in primates, resulting in two molecules sharing ∼85% identity and regulating different physiological events. Pituitary, pulsatile LH production results in a ∼90 min half-life molecule targeting the gonads, to regulate gametogenesis and androgen synthesis...

In order to investigate the function of monkey 20α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (20α-HSD), transgenic mice (tg) were produced, expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) under the control of the monkey 20α-HSD promoter. The expression levels and localization of EGFP and 20α-HSD were analyzed in immature testis and in placenta. In support of our recent publication, "Characterization of transgenic mice expressing EGFP under control of monkey 20α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase promoter" (Park et al...

BACKGROUND: Although childhood cardiovascular risk can contribute to adult cardiovascular disease, and fertility and adult cardiovascular health are linked, the association between early-life cardiovascular risk and female infertility has not been studied. METHODS: A total of 1799 women participated in the Babies substudy of the Bogalusa Heart Study. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides, glucose, and insulin were age-standardized and examined as predictors of self-reported fertility difficulties using multivariable logistic regression with adjustment for confounders...

BACKGROUND: Along with trophoblast elongation (Days 10 to 12), estradiol is secreted in increasing amounts for recognition of pregnancy. Endometrial secretions driven by ovarian progesterone and conceptus signals are essential for conceptus growth and development. Results of transcriptome analyses of whole endometrial tissue samples in the pig indicated the need for cell type-specific endometrial gene expression analysis for a better understanding of transcriptome changes associated with establishment of pregnancy...

STUDY QUESTION: What is the effect of latent genital tuberculosis (GTB) on ovarian reserve in infertile women? SUMMARY ANSWER: Women with latent GTB have lower ovarian reserves and yield lower numbers of oocytes in IVF. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Limited evidence suggests that women with GTB may have a low ovarian reserve. Infertile women have a high incidence of latent GTB and treatment improves fertility outcomes. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION: This prospective study from February 2013 to January 2016 compared 431 infertile women diagnosed with latent GTB (Group I) to 453 infertile women without latent GTB (Group II)...

Hypogonadism may be suspected if puberty is delayed. Pubertal delay may be caused by a normal physiological variant, by primary ovarian insufficiency (Turner syndrome), or reflect congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH; genetic) or acquired HH (brain lesions). Any underlying chronic disease like inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, malnutrition (anorexia or orthorexia), or excessive physical activity may also result in functional HH. Thus, girls with delayed puberty should be evaluated for an underlying pathology before any treatment, including oral contraception, is initiated...

Elevated progesterone levels on the day of trigger negatively impact the outcome of assisted reproductive technique (ART) treatment and forced ovarian stimulation might be a cause of progesterone elevation during ovarian stimulation. To analyze the impact of forced and prolonged stimulation on the progesterone elevation, this data analysis from the Ensure study compared hormonal stimulation with corifollitropin alpha (CFA)-only with CFA plus recombinant (rec) follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) after day 8 (CFA-plus group) of ovarian stimulation...

Birth rates in the United States have recently fallen. Birth rates per 1000 females aged 25-29 fell from 118 in 2007 to 105 in 2015. One factor may involve the vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV). Shortly after the vaccine was licensed, several reports of recipients experiencing primary ovarian failure emerged. This study analyzed information gathered in National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which represented 8 million 25-to-29-year-old women residing in the United States between 2007 and 2014...

Poor response to ovarian hyper-stimulation can be difficult to predict prior to stimulation even when factoring in patient age and ovarian reserve testing. When faced with the situation of poor response, patients and providers have the difficult decision to proceed with oocyte retrieval, convert to intrauterine insemination (IUI), or cancel the cycle. Although this is not an uncommon scenario, there is little data available to assist with the counseling of these patients. We performed a systematic review of published studies comparing clinical pregnancy and live births between those patients continuing with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and those converting to IUI...

Organophosphate pesticides are considered as endocrine disruptors that interfere with reproductive functions. The corpus luteum (CL) is a transient endocrine gland that produces progesterone, a crucial hormone for a successful beginning and maintenance of pregnancy . Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein ( StAR ) facilitates the rate-limiting transfer of cholesterol from the outer mitochondrial membrane to the inner organelle membranes. We investigated the effect of Diazinon (DZN), an organophosphate, on StAR mRNA expression by Sybergreen Real Time-PCR in a time-dependent manner in luteal phase...

The only curative treatment for chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV) is hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. For young female patients, ovulation induction and oocyte cryopreservation may be performed prior to transplantation to provide for future pregnancies. However, the effects of this ovum treatment on CAEBV and EBV infections have not been reported. Attempts were made to collect ova from three female CAEBV patients before transplantation conditioning, but this was only successful in two cases...

A 40-year-old nulliparous woman, with no medical history came to our fertility center with desire to get pregnant with sperm donation. Her ovarian reserve was moderately low (AMH: 0.9 ng/ml; AFC: 7) and she was advised to start an IVF/ICSI treatment. Two cleavage stage embryos were transferred 3 days following oocyte retrieval. Twelve days later, serum ß-hCG was positive. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Some survivors of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer are at increased risk of gonadal dysfunction and adverse pregnancy outcomes. We reviewed currently available literature that evaluated reproductive function and pregnancy outcomes of female cancer survivors diagnosed before the age of 25 years. High-dose alkylating agent chemotherapy and abdominal/pelvic radiotherapy adversely affect gonadal function in a dose-related fashion, with older age at exposure conferring greater risk as a result of the age-related decline in ovarian reserve...
