Musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) is noninvasive, nonionisating and cost-effective imaging diagnostic technique. It is a useful imaging modality for the diagnosis of joint and soft tissue pathology and can be considered as an extension of physical examination. Elbow is easily accessed due to its superficial position. A high resolution, multi-frequency (10-15 MHz) linear transducer should be used. US investigation of the elbow includes scanning of the anterior, medial, lateral and posterior part of the joint. Common flexor and extensor origin at the humearal epicondyles, triceps tendon, distal biceps tendon and ulnar nerve should be analised...

The design, implementation, and testing of a computational observer method for objective evaluation of ultrasound images are presented. The method uses digitized ultrasound B-scan images of a test phantom (the contrast-detail phantom), and is able to calculate the detectability of a target (signal) from its background (background noise). A quantitative detectability index, based on the measured signal-to-noise ratio of the image data, that is measured for both the human and the computational observer on the same scale is generated...

Abdominal pregnancy is a rare localization of ectopic pregnancy, more frequently observed in underdeveloped countries. We report a case of abdominal pregnancy carried to full term delivery, discovered at a time of a cesarean for low site of placenta attachment. Discovery of an abdominal pregnancy at the time of C-section seems exceptional with clinical and ulrasonographic surveillance of pregnancy. The objective of our article is to emphasize the importance of localizing the appendix at the first quarter echography and the utility of the endovaginal ulrasound...

A piezoelectric sprayer was recently developed for precision release of odor stimuli in olfactory research. The device replaces conventional dispensers used to release semiochemicals in studies of moth flight toward sources. However, the device generates high-frequency sounds in the range that some moths can hear. Ultrasound from the standard set-up sprayer had a considerable impact on flight behavior of the silver Y moth, Autographa gamma, tested in a flight tunnel. It was affected at all behavioral stages when the dispenser was driven at 120 kHz...

A clinico-ultrasound description of presentation of melanoma metastases to the gallbladder in 8 patients is discussed. Secondary lesions to the bladder presented as exophytic outgrowths extending from the bladder wall into the lumen. Echo generated by the lesions was of medium intensity and low intensity around the edge of the elastic wall. They revealed dopplergaphic signs of blood flow. Complex application of echo- and dopplergraphy offered a means of differential diagnosis of metastatic lesions and other pathologies of the gallbladder presenting as exophytic outgrowths in the bladder wall in melanoma patients...
