INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Ureterocele is a congenital malformation of the ureter with dilatation in the distal part of the ureter. In most cases, this condition was present in childhood. In cases involving adults, this condition is associated with prolapse as well as the formation of stones. Prolapsed ureterocele with stone is considered to be a very rare case. We report a complex case of prolapsed ureterocele in a young female with a protruding mass in the vagina with complete pyeloureteral duplication and stone in the left ureterovesical junction...

The retrocaval ureter is an uncommon congenital anomaly due to an abnormal development of the inferior vena cava. Our case describes an 8 year-old boy who was referred to our center as a case of ureteropelvic junction obstruction with persistent hydronephrosis after pyeloplasty. Retrograde pyelogram showed features of retrocaval ureter which was managed surgically with constructive repair of the ureter. The low clinical incidence may be due to a number of asymptomatic cases that are not diagnosed in the patient's lifetime...

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has been widely used in the clinical practice of urinary calculi. The prone positioning for PCNL is generally adopted, while it is associated with a certain risk when repositioning the patient into the prone position after anesthesia. This approach is more difficult for obese or elderly patients with respiratory diseases. The application of PCNL combined with B-mode ultrasound-guided renal access in the lateral decubitus flank position for complex renal calculi has been poorly investigated...

INTRODUCTION: The evaluation of clinical trial (CT) safety is the main task of CT vigilance units. In addition to the management of adverse events, the units must review the literature to identify information that may impact the benefit-risk assessment of studies. In this survey, we investigated the literature monitoring (LM) activity of French Institutional Vigilance Units (IVU) from the working group "REflexion sur la VIgilance et la SEcurite des essais cliniques" (REVISE). MATERIAL AND METHODS: We sent a questionnaire of 26 questions, divided into four themes, to the 60 IVU: (1) Presentation of the IVU and the LM activity; (2) Used sources, queries and criteria for selecting articles; (3) Valuation of the LM and (4) Practical organisation...

BACKGROUND: Initial tumour staging in bladder cancer mainly relies on the histo-pathological outcome of the transurethral bladder tumour resection (TURBT) and imaging by means of a CT-scan (CT-intravenous urography; CT-IVU). The reported risk of understaging varies from 24-50%. To further improve the the evaluation of depth of invasion of the bladder tumour the application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be useful. To substantiate the additional value of this imaging modality the present observational study was designed...

Bovine trichomonosis is a sexually transmitted disease that is a primary cause of early reproductive failure in cattle. The aim of the present study was to develop a vaccine formulation based on Tritrichomonas foetu s trophozoites inactivated by lyophilization and Quil-A-adjuvanted. The safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of this new vaccine formulation (Trichobovis® ) administered by two routes (subcutaneous: SC, and intravulvar: IVU) were compared with a commercial vaccine (TrichGuard® ) in a well-established experimental bovine model of genital T...

Inflammation and biofilm-associated infection are common in chronic venous leg ulcers (VU), causing deep pain and delayed healing. Albeit important, clinical markers and laboratory parameters for identifying and monitoring persistent VU infections are limited. This study analyzed 101 patients with infected (IVU) and noninfected VUs (NVU). Clinical data were collected in both groups. The serum homocysteine (Hcys) and inflammatory cytokines from the wound fluid were measured. In addition, microbial identification, antibiotic susceptibility, and biofilm production were examined...

We aimed to investigate the significance of optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in managing pediatric optic pathway gliomas (OPGs) in children younger than 5 years of age. A retrospective monocentric study was conducted. SD-OCT scans were obtained using the handheld iVue system to assess peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer (pRNFL) thickness at three time points: baseline (OCT1), end of treatment (OCT2), and at last follow-up (OCT3). We compared the median value of pRNFL (and interquartile range-IQR) at different follow-up times and in different sub-groups (stable disease-SD, partial response-PR, and progression disease-PD)...

Abdominal colic pain or hematuria is suspected to be caused by urinary tract stones. Commonly used X-ray examinations include kidney-ureter-bladder plain radiography (KUB), intravenous urography (IVU), and abdominal computed tomography (CT). In this study, a high-sensitivity thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) was embedded in a Rando phantom to directly measure organ dose and evaluate effective dose. During each experiment, 139 TLD measurement points that cover almost all organs (as recommended by the ICRP 103 report) were examined...

OBJECTIVE: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is the most prevalent gastrointestinal emergency in premature infants and is characterized by a dysfunctional gut microcirculation. Therefore, there is a dire need for in vivo methods to characterize NEC-induced changes in the structure and function of the gut microcirculation, i.e. its vascular phenotype. Since in vivo gut imaging methods are often slow and employ a single contrast mechanism, we developed a rapid multicontrast imaging technique and a novel analyses pipeline for phenotyping the gut microcirculation...

Long strictures of the upper third of the ureter are most often recurrent and occur after endourological and reconstructive procedures. The lack of native tissues and an impossibility of substitution by bowel segment in some cases dictates the use of alternative surgical techniques. Our first experience of laparoscopic onlay ureteroplasty using buccal graft for long stricture of the upper third of the ureter is described in the article. The length of the stricture was 6 cm. The operation time was 210 minutes, while blood loss volume was less than 100 ml...
