BACKGROUND: Fibroadenomas are the most common benign breast tumors in adolescents. Surgical excision is indicated when the tumor becomes large or symptomatic. Multiple approaches have been described. However, unsightly scars, excess skin, and breast asymmetry are common challenges after tumor resection. The aims of our study were to describe a concentric circumareolar approach combining the round-block technique and geometric principles in the management of large benign breast tumors...

Mequindox (MEQ), acting as an inhibitor of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis, is a synthetic heterocyclic N -oxides. To investigate the potential carcinogenicity of MEQ, four groups of Kun-Ming (KM) mice (50 mice/sex/group) were fed with diets containing MEQ (0, 25, 55, and 110 mg/kg) for one and a half years. The result showed adverse effects on body weights, feed consumption, hematology, serum chemistry, organ weights, relative organ weights, and incidence of tumors during most of the study period. Treatment-related changes in hematology, serum chemistry, relative weights and histopathological examinations revealed that the hematological system, liver, kidneys, and adrenal glands, as well as the developmental and reproductive system, were the main targets after MEQ administration...

Primary osteosarcoma (OS) of the uterus is distinctly rare. We report a case of primary uterine OS with pulmonary metastasis in a 74-yr-old woman. Histopathologic features of the uterine tumor were in keeping with a pure chondroblastic OS composed of neoplastic cells with osteoblastic/chondroblastic differentiation and neoplastic bone formation. Despite treatment with Doxorubicin and Olaratumab and later with palliative radiation therapy, the patient died 7 mo after hysterectomy due to multiple distant metastases...

Objective To investigate the nucleocytoplasmic translocation of inhibitor of growth family member 5 (ING5) gene in human breast cancer and the negative correlation between the nuclear high expression of ING5 protein and the clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer. Methods We collected 260 cases of clinical primary breast cancer, 55 cases of metastatic cancer in lymph node, 61 cases of breast fibroadenoma, 110 cases of adenomatosis, and 91 cases of para-cancerous tissues. With the tissue microarrays, we detected ING5 expression in the nucleus and cytoplasm through immunohistochemistry, and statistically analyzed the correlations of nuclear and cytoplasmic ING5 expression with the clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer...

Bone metastasis (BM) is the advanced complication of breast cancer, while bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in the microenvironment unclearly contribute to cancer metastasis. This study investigated potential roles of transforming growth factor- (TGF-) α in the interaction between breast cancer and BMSCs in BM. Clinical cases of breast cancer with bone metastasis (BMBC), breast cancer without bone metastasis (Non-BM-BC), and benign fibroadenoma (Benign) were enlisted in a retrospective study...

Collagen type V α1 chain (COL5A1) is a minor fibrillar collagen in mammals that co-polymerizes with type I collagen to adjust the diameter of collagen molecules. However, the function of COL5A1 in invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the human breast remains unknown. In the present study, our group examined the expression of COL5A1 in IDC compared with its adjacent normal tissue and fibroadenoma of the breast. COL5A1 was revealed to be overexpressed in IDC compared with benign tumor and adjacent normal control tissues, and was associated with the expression of estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor...

BACKGROUND: Smurf2 E3 ubiquitin ligase physically associates with and regulate the stability of distinct cellular protein substrates. The multi-functional scaffold protein Connector enhancer of kinase suppressor of ras 2 (CNKSR2) plays a key role in regulating cell proliferation, and differentiation through multiple receptor tyrosine kinase pathways. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the interaction between Smurf2 and CNKSR2 has any significant role in the post transcriptional regulation of CNKSR2 expression in breast cancer...

Fibroadenomas are abundantly reported in the literature with several papers documenting the natural progression and clinical outcomes of thousands of cases. Juvenile fibroadenomas (also called cellular fibroadenomas) are frequently characterized by rapid growth, often described as 5-10 cm in size. They constitute approximately 7%-8% of fibroadenomas. They often measure greater than 5 cm. Pathologically, they show similar features to fibroadenomas but can resemble phyllodes. There have been few documented cases of breast masses in early childhood...

Primary breast osteosarcoma is a rare malignancy, with mostly case reports in the literature. The appearance of breast osteosarcoma on digital breast tomosynthesis imaging has not yet been described. A 69-year-old woman presents for routine screening mammography and is found to have a calcified mass in her right breast. Pattern of calcification appeared "sunburst" on digital breast tomosynthesis images. This mass was larger than on the previous year's mammogram, at which time it had been interpreted as a benign calcified fibroadenoma...

Malignant phyllodes tumor is a rare tumor of the breast occurring in females usually between the ages of 35 and 55 years. It is often difficult to distinguish benign from malignant phyllodes tumors from other benign entities such as fibroadenomas. This case presentation demonstrates a woman with malignant phyllodes tumor treated with mastectomy with abdominal skin flap reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Benign Osseous metaplasia of the breast is rare, with only a few cases reported in the literature. Here we present a case of benign osseous metaplasia of the breast presenting as a breast lump. CASE PRESENTATION: 38-year-old previously well woman presented with a one-year history of bilateral breast pain and a left-sided breast lump. Ultrasound and mammography suggested calcified fibroadenoma. An ultrasound-guided true cut biopsy revealed fibrous tissue containing foci of adenosis in the presence of a myoepithelial cell layer...

Objective: Oncoplastic surgery was developed to allow for large tumor excision and immediate breast reconstruction with the goal of optimal breast shape and symmetry. Although initially used in women who underwent lumpectomy for breast malignancy, these techniques can be useful for cosmetic issues caused by benign breast disease. We describe a modification of an inferior pedicle with Wise-pattern reduction mammoplasty for oncoplastic reconstruction of a giant fibroadenoma. Methods: A 30-year-old woman with size 32 DD breasts was referred by the surgical oncologist with a biopsy-proven fibroadenoma of the right breast...
