Obesity and its related metabolic diseases bring great challenges to public health. In-depth understanding on the efficacy of weight-loss interventions is critical for long-term weight control. Our study demonstrated the comparable efficacy of exercise (EX), intermittent fasting (IF), or the change of daily diet from an unhealthy to a normal chow (DR) for weight reduction, but largely divergently affected metabolic status and transcriptome of subcutaneous fat, scapular brown fat, skeletal muscles and liver in high-fat-high-fructose diet (HFHF) induced obese mice...

OBJECTIVE: Enamelin is the largest enamel matrix protein encoded by the ENAM gene. The primary purpose of this study was to identify genetic variants in ENAM exon 10 that can alter susceptibility to early childhood caries (ECC). METHODS: This case-control study included 248 children aged 3-6 years, with 124 children diagnosed with ECC in the case group and 124 children without caries in the control group. Questionnaires were used to record demographic data, socioeconomic status, hygienic practices, and feeding practices, and a 24-hour diet diary was kept...

The impact of ground-breaking research on the dental pulp and its response to dental procedures, materials and associated diseases significantly influenced the evolution and scope of Endodontics, creating a science of Endodontology. While there were scattered studies in the early 20th century in this regard, the clarification and codification of these concepts took a major leap forward in the late 1950s due to the academic prowess and in-depth research endeavors of Dr. Kaare Langeland. The story begins during World War I in Norway...

Photoinduced Pd-catalyzed bisfunctionalization of butadienes with a readily available organic halide and a nucleophile represents an emerging and attractive method to assemble versatile alkenes bearing various functional groups at the allylic position. However, enantiocontrol and/or diastereocontrol in the C-C or C-X bond-formation step have not been solved due to the open-shell process. Herein, we present a cascade asymmetric dearomatization reaction of indoles via photoexcited Pd-catalyzed 1,2-biscarbonfunctionalization of 1,3-butadienes, wherein asymmetric control on both the nucleophile and electrophile part is achieved for the first time in photoinduced bisfunctionalization of butadienes...

OBJECTIVE: Drug resistance greatly limits the therapeutic effect of a drug. This study aimed to explore the role of long noncoding RNA ZFAS1 in Donafenib resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. METHODS: The expression of CREB3, ZFAS1, and p65 in HCC cell lines was measured by RT-qPCR and western blotting. After transfection with sh-ZFAS1, sh-CREB3, or sh-CREB3 + oe-p65 in Donafenib-resistent (DR) HCC cell lines, the transfection efficiency was evaluated by RT-qPCR and western blotting...

Leveraging publicly available genetic datasets, we conducted a comprehensive 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the causal links between 731 immunophenotypes and the risk of pancreatic cancer (PC). To ensure the robustness of our findings, extensive sensitivity analyses were performed, evaluating stability, heterogeneity, and potential horizontal pleiotropy. Our analysis pinpointed 24 immunophenotypes significantly associated with the risk of PC. Notably, phenotypes such as CD4+ CD8dim %leukocyte (OR = 0...

Thioglycoside bond formation via an asymmetric sulfa-Michael/aldol reaction of ( E )-β-nucleobase acrylketones and 1,4-dithiane-2,5-diol has been achieved with a cinchona alkaloid-derived bifunctional squaramide chiral catalyst. Diverse purine, benzimidazole, and imidazole substrates are well tolerated and generate 4'-thionucleoside derivatives containing three contiguous stereogenic centers with excellent results (30 examples, up to 97% yield, >20 : 1 dr and up to 99% ee). Moreover, the novel strategy provides an efficient and convenient synthetic route to construct chiral 4'-thionucleosides...

This work sheds new light on the stereoselective synthesis of chiral macrocycles containing twisted aromatic units, valuable π-conjugated materials for recognition, sensing, and optoelectronics. For the first time, we use the Curtin-Hammett principle to investigate a chiral macrocyclisation reaction, revealing the potential for supramolecular π-π interactions to direct the outcome of a dynamic kinetic resolution, favouring the opposite macrocyclic product to that expected under reversible, thermodynamically controlled conditions...

Organic deep-red (DR) and near-infrared (NIR) emitters with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are rare due to the strong non-radiative ( k nr ) decay. Here, we report two DR/NIR emitters with high PLQY, TPANZPyPI and TPANZ3PI. Interestingly, the TPANZPyPI film exhibits 46.5% PLQY at 699 nm. Theoretical calculations indicate that TPANZPyPI can achieve this high PLQY in the near-infrared emission region due to its small S1 to S0 internal conversion (IC) rate. Meanwhile, research has found that, compared to TPANZ3PI, TPANZPyPI with a more rigid structure can effectively suppress the T2 to T1 IC process, which is conducive to higher exciton utilization efficiency (EUE)...

OBJECTIVE: We previously reported that CD14+ dendritic-shaped cells exhibit a dendritic morphology, engage in pseudo-emperipolesis with lymphocytes, and express CD90 in the perivascular areas of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) synovial tissues. However, it remains unclear whether these CD14high CD90intermediate(int) cells function as dendritic cells. In this study, we investigated the dendritic cell-differentiation potential of CD14high CD90int cells.
