BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is emerging in the developing world but phenotypic data are limited. We aimed to describe the phenotype, clinical presentation, disease behavior, and treatments of IBD in a large cohort in India. METHODS: All persons presenting to the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad, India since 2004 with a confirmed diagnosis of IBD were enrolled. The demographic profile at the first visit, family history of IBD, smoking history, time from first symptom onset to diagnosis, use of anti-tuberculousis treatment before IBD-specific treatment, disease phenotype, and medication history were collected by interview and chart review...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) T-SPOT.TB test for the diagnosis of TB meningitis (TBM). A retrospective analysis of 96 patients with manifested meningitis was conducted; T-SPOT.TB test was performed for diagnosing TBM to determine the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV). A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was also drawn to assess the diagnostic accuracy. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of CSF T-SPOT...

The emergence of multi-drug resistant strains and co-occurrence of tuberculosis with HIV creates a major burden to the human health globally. Failure of primary antibacterial therapy necessitates the identification of new mycobacterial drugs. In this study, a comprehensive analysis involving bottom-up systems biology approach was applied wherein we have identified potential therapeutic targets of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections. Our study prioritized M. tuberculosis therapeutic targets (aspartate-β-semialdeyhde dehydrogenase [ASD], dihydrodipicolinate reductase and diaminopimelate decarboxylase) based on flux and elementary mode analysis using direct mathematical modeling of the relevant metabolic pathways...

Tuberculosis has global presence and no part of human body is immune to it, most frequent site beings lungs. Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is a rare type of extrapulmonary tuberculosis comprising only less than 1% of tuberculosis found in the upper respiratory tract. The authors are presenting here a case of primary tuberculousis affecting the nasopharynx (adenoids) which is one of the rare differential diagnosis of nasopharyngeal mass. Isolated nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is a rare condition even in the endemic areas...
