Pseudoachalasia or secondary achalasia (5% of achalasias that are deemed primary achalasias) is an esophageal motor disorder with manometric criteria for achalasia, but it appears in the context of an underlying pathology that can be attributed to its origin. Usually appears in >60 years with rapid evolution of symptoms (<1 year). The main cause of pseudoachalasia is neoformative etiology, but there are others. Our patient started with rapid progression dysphagia and was diagnosed with type II achalasia within a Hodgkin's lymphoma...

OBJECTIVE: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Furthermore, about 20% of the patients develop extrahepatic manifestations such as cryoglobulinemic vasculitis (CV), polyarteritis nodosa, non-rheumatoid arthritis, glomerulonephritis and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This review analyzed literature data on clinical manifestations of HBV-related CV and the impact of antiviral therapy with analoques nucleotide. METHODS: A PubMed search was performed to select eligible studies in the literature, up to July 2022...

INTRODUCTION: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) contributes significantly to the development and occurrence of B-cell lymphomas. However, the association between EBV infection status and clinical outcomes in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients has long been controversial. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the prognostic significance of EBV infection in HL survival. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library for relevant cohort studies from the date of their inception to February 20, 2022...

The non-Hodgkin's lymphomas are a diverse group of lymphoid neoplasms that collectively rank fifth in cancer incidence and mortality. Patients treated with mediastinal radiotherapy and/or anthracycline-containing chemotherapy are known to have increased risks of coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, and heart failure. This may be the result of cancer treatment cardiotoxicity or may be due to accelerated development of cardiovascular disease. We presented 41-year-old male who was admitted to the hospital because of congestive heart failure...

Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare and aggressive type of B-cell non-Hodking lymphoma. It can compromise the gastrointestinal tract, sometimes developing an entity known as multiple lymphomatous polyposis. It develops more frequently in males in the sixth decade of life, presenting heterogeneous clinical patterns. The diagnostic is endoscopic with histological confirmation. Currently, the treatment is chemotherapy, reserving surgical exploration of the abdominal cavity for complicated cases with acute abdomen. We present the case of a 51-year-old woman who underwent emergency surgery to treat peritonitis due perforation of a multiple lymphomatoid polyposis, an unreported atypical complication...

Two Phyllanthus species are newly described from a limestone mountain in the north of Thailand. The first species, P. huamotensis Pornp., Chantar. & J.Parn., sp. nov. , is one of the most distinct Phyllanthus species easily distinguished by its reddish branchlets and stem, conspicuous reddish venation, especially on the lower leaf surface, red sepals with long fimbriate margin and red capsule with papillose-puberulous surface. The second species, P. chantaranothaii Pornp., J.Parn. & Hodk., sp. nov. , is similar to P...

The association between Rosai-Dorfman Disease (RDD) and cancer was reported for the first time in 1984. However, there are still a small number of reports of this association. We describe a 60-year-old woman who presented with a focal onset motor seizure followed by tonic-clonic generalization and persistent headache. Magnetic Resonance Imaging disclosed an irregular hyperintense lesion in T2 and vasogenic edema in the left parietal region. Immunohistochemical analysis of a biopsy fragment was positive for protein S-100 and CD68 and negative for CD1a, compatible with the diagnosis of RDD...

Non Hodking´s lymphoma (NHL) may involve bones but synovial involvement is uncommon. We describe a patient who presented with polyarthritis, sicca symptoms and rash suggestive of rheumatoid arthritis. An atypical skin rash prompted skin and synovial biopsies. A diagnosis of synovial and skin malignant large B-cell lymphoma anaplastic subtype was performed. Chemotherapy with dexamethasone, vincristine and rituximab was started. Following treatment the patient had complete resolution of cutaneous and articular lymphoma manifestations...

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a disease which is characterized by fever and desquamation of the skin and mucosal membranes. It is usually related with drugs, especially aromatic anticonvulsants which are recognized as the most common cause of this disorder. Cranial irradiation may act as a precipitating factor along with anticonvulsants for the development of TEN. We report a 28-year-old patient with central nervous system (CNS) relapsed non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) who developed TEN after cranial radiotherapy and concurrent phenytoin treatment...

Rituximab, a chimeric monoclonal antibody against CD20, induces the depletion of B lymphocytes. It is used for the treatment of lymphoproliferative and autoimmune diseases. Antibody immunodeficiency associated to RTX treatment is a new motif for consultation to our service. We decided to study those patients that having been treated with RTX, consulted for hypogammaglobulinemia or recurrent infections between November 2010 and December 2014. We evaluated eight patients, seven female and one male. The average follow up time was 19...

The leaching of trace metals from anthropogenically contaminated sites poses the risk of groundwater pollution. Biochar has recently been proposed as a soil additive to reduce trace-metal concentrations in the soil solution and to increase water retention, thus reducing drainage. However, field studies on the effects of biochar addition on trace-metal leaching are scarce. Therefore, we added 0, 1, 2.5, and 5 g 100 g of biochar derived from giant miscanthus ( × J.M. Greef & Deuter ex Hodk. & Renvoize) to soil contaminated by former wastewater irrigation and examined water retention and cumulative leaching of Zn, Cd, Cu, and Pb in a 2-yr field study...

We report the case of a fiftyone-year-old woman with a past medical history of Linfoma no Hodking and a gastric adenocarcinoma with signet ring cells. She came to our institution with a twenty month history of dysnea secondary to pleural effussion, bilateral lower extremity edema and probably had ascitis. On CT and US two bilateral pelvic masses were found and biopsied. The anatomopathological analysis showed bilateral ovarian implants from signet ring cell adenocarcinoma (Krukenberg tumor). This patient developed a PseudoMeigs syndrome consisting on malignant ovarian tumor asociated with ascitis and pleural effusion without malignant cells...

BACKGROUND: Nasal T/natural killer (NK)-cell lymphoma is an aggressive type of non-Hodking's lymphoma associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and striking geographical variations worldwide. AIM: To characterise nasal NK/T-cell lymphoma associated with genotypes of EBV in Chile, a Latin American country, where multiple strains of EBV, including two new recombinant strains, in healthy individuals were recently found. METHODS: Cases with diagnosis of primary nasal lymphoma were selected for histological and immunohistochemical analysis (CD3, CD3e, CD4, CD8, CD79a, CD56, CD57 and TIA-1) and in-situ hybridisation, serology and genotyping analysis for EBV...
