The aim of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Competence and Adherence Scale for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CAS-CBT). The CAS-CBT is an 11-item scale developed to measure adherence and competence in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders in youth. A total of 181 videotapes from the treatment sessions in a randomized controlled effectiveness trial (Wergeland et al., 2014) comprising youth (N = 182, M age = 11.5 years, SD = 2.1, range 8-15 years, 53% girls, 90...

RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL

The purpose of the present study was twofold. In an analysis of data from an existing randomized control trial of brief cognitive behavioral treatment on specific phobias (One-Session Treatment, OST; Ollendick et al., 2009), we examined 1) the effect of comorbid specific phobias and other anxiety disorders on treatment outcomes, and 2) the effect of treatment of the specific phobia on these co-occurring disorders. These relations were explored in 100 youth presenting with animal, natural environment, situational, and "other" types of phobia...

Cognitive biases have been suggested to act as latent vulnerability factors for the onset and maintenance of affective and emotional disorders. Additionally, several global and specific personality constructs are known to influence the course of psychopathology (e.g., trait anxiety, optimism, anxiety sensitivity (AS), injury/illness sensitivity (IS), fear of negative evaluation (FNE)). The current study examined the specificity of the relation between these constructs and a negative interpretation bias. One hundred and fifty-four healthy participants completed the Body Sensations Interpretation Questionnaire (BSIQ) [Clark, D...

The 230-kDa bullous pemphigoid antigen gene is expressed primarily, if not exclusively, in basal keratinocytes of the epidermis. Keratinocyte responsive element 3, a cis-element at position -216 to -197 of the human 230-kDa bullous pemphigoid antigen gene promoter, confers tissue-specific expression to this gene (Tamai et al: J Biol Chem 270:7609-7614, 1995). In this study, we investigated the functional characteristics of keratinocyte responsive element 3 on the 230-kDa bullous pemphigoid antigen gene core promoter by transient transfections of cultured normal human keratinocytes and normal human fibroblasts, as well as of lung carcinoma (A549), osteosarcoma (OST), and gastric adenocarcinoma (GT3TKB) cell lines...

Pig liver oligosaccharyltransferase (OST), which is involved in the en bloc transfer of the Dol-PP-linked GlcNAc(2)-Man(9)-Glc(3) precursor on to asparagine residues in the Asn-Xaa-Thr/Ser sequence, is highly stereospecific for the conformation of the 3-carbon atom in the hydroxy amino acid. Moreover, substitution of the hydroxy group by either SH as in cysteine, or NH(2) as in beta,gamma-diamino-butanoic acid as reported previously [Bause, E. et al., Biochem. J. 312 (1995) 979-985], followed by the determination of the pH optimum for enzymatic activity, indicates that neither a negative nor a positive charge in the hydroxy amino acid position is tolerated by the enzyme...

OST cells enhance the induction of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 by tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and the corresponding metastasis to lungs in vivo (Kawashima et al., 1994). We focused on the adhesive and migratory properties of OST cells, and investigated the expression of integrins in OST cells stimulated by TNFalpha in vitro. OST cells potentiated not only adhesion to the extracellular matrix (ECM) but also the migration on ECM. On competitive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analyses, the amounts of alpha2 (4...

Researchers at our laboratory have been dissecting the binding domains of the receptor for the Edmonston laboratory strain of measles virus (CD46) through site-specific mutagenesis. We initially substituted most of the hydrophilic amino acids in the two external short consensus regions (SCRI and SCRII) of CD46 with the amino acid alanine [Hsu et al. (1997) J. Virol. 71:6144-6154] and found that the glutamic-arginine residues at positions 58 and 59 were particularly sensitive to change. Here we consider the roles of hydrophobic amino acids in the binding between measles virus H protein and CD46...

We have identified a Drosophila gene that has substantial sequence homology to a distinct class of proto-oncogenes that includes DBL, VAV, Tiam-1, ost and ect-2. It has predicted Rho or Rac guanine exchange factor (Rho/RacGEF) and pleckstin homology (PH) domains with the PH immediately downstream of the Rho/RacGEF. Rho/RacGEFs catalyze the dissociation of GDP from the Rho/Rac subfamily of Ras-like GTPases, thus activating the target Rho/Rac (Takai et al. (1995) Trends Biochem. Sci. 20, 227-231]. Members of the Rho/Rac subfamily regulate organization of the actin cytoskeleton, which controls the morphology, adhesion and motility of cells (Nobes et al...
