Coalition of the carpal bones is a relatively uncommon anatomic anomaly. The majority of carpal coalitions occur between the lunate and triquetrum. There are rare reports of coalition involving the hamate and pisiform. We report a case of a previously asymptomatic male who sustained minor trauma and was found to have hamate-pisiform coalition complicated by a minimally displaced pisiform fracture.

BACKGROUND: Glenoid version angles are measured to objectively follow changes related to glenohumeral dysplasia in the setting of brachial plexus birth palsy. Measuring glenoid version on cross-sectional imaging was initially described by Friedman et al. in 1992. Recent literature for non-dysplastic shoulders advocates time-consuming reconstructions and reformations for an accurate assessment of glenoid version. OBJECTIVE: To compare Friedman's original method for measuring glenoid version to a novel technique we developed ("modified Friedman") with the reference standard of true axial reformations...

BACKGROUND: According to anecdotal press reports, there have been medically significant ingestions of fidget spinner toys, including ingestions that required endoscopic intervention. Fidget spinners have been marketed to improve attention and have been suggested as a therapeutic alternative to medications in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). OBJECTIVE: To describe the radiographic appearance and features of ingested fidget spinner components...

MRI equipment with its complex instrumentation and adaptable software applications is vulnerable to technical and image quality problems, and maintaining quality assurance is essential. Accreditation of MRI centers by the ACR has become a routine practice for radiology departments and imaging centers across the country. In its prior format, the ACR MRI Accreditation Program had examination anatomic modules designed primarily to measure quality and validate MR performance primarily in adult imaging practices...

BACKGROUND: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the hips is being increasingly used to confirm hip reduction after surgery and spica cast placement for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). OBJECTIVE: To review a single institutional experience with post-spica MRI in children undergoing closed or open hip reduction and describe the utility of MRI in directing the need for re-intervention. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-four patients (52 female, 22 male) who underwent post-spica hip MRI over a 6-year period were retrospectively reviewed...

METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted comparing 235 radiographic examinations (study) performed without and 83 examinations (control) performed with a radiology technologist at the authors' pediatric urgent care centers...

Spiroborate anions have potential for crystallization or resolution and chiral bis(mandelato)borate anions can be used for the efficient resolution of a diverse range of racemic cations via diastereomeric salt formation. The syntheses, X-ray crystal structures and solubilities of three chiral bis(mandelato)borate salts, namely poly[[aqua-μ3 -bis[(R)-mandelato]borato-lithium(I)] monohydrate], [Li(C16 H12 BO6 )(H2 O)]n or Li[B(R-Man)2 ]·H2 O, (1), ammonium bis[(R)-mandelato]borate, NH4 + ·C16 H12 BO6 - or NH4 [B(R-Man)2 ], (2), and tetra-n-butylammonium bis[(R)-mandelato]borate, C16 H36 N+ ·C16 H12 BO6 - or NBu4 [B(R-Man)2 ], (3), are reported...

BACKGROUND: The Kocher criteria are established clinical parameters that predict hip septic arthritis (SA) with a 93% or greater positive-predictive value when 3 or 4 variables are present. The incidence of osteomyelitis (OM) in these patients has not been reported. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the incidence of OM in patients who have 3 or 4 positive Kocher criteria. METHODS: A total of 71 consecutive patients (mean age, 4.7 y) treated between January 2007 and July 2013 for suspected hip SA who had 3 or 4 positive Kocher criteria were retrospectively reviewed...

OBJECTIVE: Pre-authorization processes are often used by medical insurance companies to reduce costs by managing the utilization of advanced diagnostic imaging, and their impact on patient care is unclear. The efficacy of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) targeted to solid tumors depends on biological processes that are hard to monitor in vivo. 89Zr-immunoPET of the ADC antibodies could help understand the performance of ADCs in the clinic by confirming the necessary penetration, binding, and internalization. This work studied monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE) ADCs against two targets in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, TENB2 and STEAP1, in four patient-derived tumor models (LuCaP35V, LuCaP70, LuCaP77, LuCaP96...

Bis(mandelato)borate [B(Man)2](-) (R- or S-) anions are simply prepared and appear widely effective for resolution of racemic cations. Three examples demonstrate their scope; the alkaloid tetrahydropalmatine (THP), 1,2-diaminopropane (1,2-dap) and the metal-organic complex [Co(phen)3](3+) are readily resolved, either by a facile one-pot procedure, or via counter-ion metathesis.

Phospholipase Cβ (PLCβ) enzymes are activated by G protein-coupled receptors through receptor-catalyzed guanine nucleotide exchange on Gαβγ heterotrimers containing Gq family G proteins. Here we report evidence for a direct interaction between M3 muscarinic receptor (M3R) and PLCβ3. Both expressed and endogenous M3R interacted with PLCβ in coimmunoprecipitation experiments. Stimulation of M3R with carbachol significantly increased this association. Expression of M3R in CHO cells promoted plasma membrane localization of YFP-PLCβ3...
