Acupuncture at Fengchi (GB20) in the posterior neck improves vertigo. However, subarachnoid hemorrhage and spinal epidural hematoma have been reported to occur after acupuncture in the posterior neck. Therefore, in the present study, we assessed the safety of acupuncture at Fengchi. Laboratory tests and adverse event reports were used to evaluate the safety of different acupuncture manipulations for the treatment of posterior circulation ischemia with vertigo. A total of 136 patients were randomly assigned to four groups...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the therapeutic methods and effect of pingyangmycin injection in huge hemangioma at Hypopharynx and laryngeal under suspension laryngoscopy. METHOD: To ananysize the medical records of 12 Patients with giant hemangioma at hypopharynx and laryngeal. Patients were underwent polysomnography before operation. Inseted the suspension laryngoscopy to pars laryngea by mouth to exposing the hemangioma under general anaesthesia, then injected Pingyangmycin by a long-tube needling (one time per three weeks, accumulated dose less than 50 mg)...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the radiologic characteristics of lingual thyroglossal duct cyst relevant to diagnosis. In addition, to probe the feasibility of modified Sistrunk surgery for patients who experience recurrence after cystectomy or marsupialization under endoscopy. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective. METHODS: Seven patients, three male and four female, who had been diagnosed with lingual thyroglossal duct cysts, had received cystectomy or marsupialization under endoscopy between one and eight times with cyst recurrence soon after every operation...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidence of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in early esophageal carcinoma and the techniques of dissection. METHODS: Standard three-field dissection was performed in patients with small superficial esophageal carcinoma detected by endoscopy from 1993 - 2007. The lymph node metastases in different regions were identified by histopathology. The survival rate of the cases was analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 149 patients with early esophageal carcinoma were identified by postoperative pathological examination...

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) reactions to fragrances may present in a variety of ways because of exposure to these allergens from a wide range of sources. We describe a diagnostic pearl for this common ACD, primarily seen overlying the prominentia laryngea (Adam's apple) both in women and girls, which we have called the atomizer sign.

To date, there is a paucity of literature on surgery to alter vocal pitch in male-to-female transsexuals. The currently available pitch-raising surgical techniques yield neither a good long-term result nor a high enough pitch to simulate a female voice. We investigated a new procedure to alter vocal pitch in 6 male-to-female transsexuals. The principle is to shorten and increase tension on both vocal folds by composite resection of a vertical strip of the anterior thyroid cartilage along with a segment of vocal fold...

The present paper deals with the problem of the temporal relations between the beginning of the glottal opening at phonation onset and the thyroid cartilage kinematics at the prominentia laryngea. Furthermore, some differences in comparison with a stationary phonation event are discussed here.

The response of laryngeal airway resistance to pulmonary receptor stimulation was studied in 20 mongrel dogs anesthetized with alpha-chloralose (80 mg/kg). Stimulation of pulmonary stretch receptors by lung inflation inhibited the phasic variation of laryngeal resistance during respiration and produced a sustained reduction of laryngeal resistance, which was related to lung inflation pressure. Stimulation of pulmonary J-receptors with capsaicin produced apnea and a large increase in laryngea resistance. Capsaicin produced this reflex when injected into the pulmonary circulation but not when injected into the systemic circulation...
