INTRODUCTION: Penile prosthetic devices are the gold standard treatment of medication-refractory erectile dysfunction. Inflatable penile prosthetic (IPP) devices have been available and used for more than four decades. Oftentimes, medical conditions causing erectile dysfunction also cause penile shortening, causing decreased patient quality of life. AIM: To identify and review all available penile lengthening procedures that can be performed at time of IPP insertion...

When a sudden death occurs during a minor surgical intervention, it may require a careful and extensive postmortem investigation. One such case concerns a 61-year-old male patient affected by Peyronie's disease, who died suddenly during a corporoplasty procedure. Autopsy and histologic examinations showed a massive bilateral pulmonary micro-embolism brought on by periprostatic venous plexus thrombosis. The cause of death was attributed to intraoperative fatal pulmonary micro-embolism. Pulmonary thromboembolism is a major cause of death and is known to be a possible complication of surgery...

INTRODUCTION: Advanced Peyronie's disease (PD) with severe penile deviation demands grafting procedures following plaque incision or partial plaque excision in order to avoid penile shortening and to improve quality of life of affected patients. Small intestinal submucosa (SIS) is an established xenograft. The objective of the present study was to validate external results in a bicentric prospective manner. METHODS: Patient selection criteria, surgical technique and standards for pre- and postoperative care were defined...

PURPOSE: To develop a rabbit experimental study to test the hypothesis that surgical repair of hypospadias with severe ventral curvatures might be completed in one stage, if a graft, such as buccal mucosa, could be placed over the tunica vaginalis flap used in corporoplasty for ventral lengthening, with the addition of an onlay preputial island. flap to complete the urethroplasty. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The experimental procedure with rabbits included a tunica vaginalis flap for reconstruction of the corpora after corporotomy, simulating a ventral lengthening operation...

INTRODUCTION: Distal extrusion of cylinders is a potential complication of the penile prosthesis implantation. Several methods have been proposed for repairing a distal penile erosion. We present our preliminary experience in "Distal corporoplasty" technique. METHODS: We enrolled 18 consecutive patients whose underwent a distal corporoplasty with simultaneous reimplantation of an "AMS 700 inflatable penile prosthesis (LGX)" from January 2013 to November 2015 at our hospital...

We present the use of a modified corporoplasty, based on geometrical principles, to determine the exact site for the incision in the tunica or plaque and the exact amount of albuginea for overlaying to correct with extreme precision the different types of congenital or acquired penile curvature due to Peyronie's disease. To describe our experience with a new surgical procedure for the enhancement of penile curvature avoiding any overcorrection or undercorrection. Between March 2004 and April 2013, a total of 74 patients underwent the geometrical modified corporoplasty...

Plication procedures for the correction of Peyronie's disease (PD) curvature are management options for PD patients. There are basically three types of procedures: excisional corporoplasty, incisional corporoplasty, and plication-only. This review is a compilation of English literature, peer-reviewed, published articles addressing these types of operations for Peyronie's curvature correction, not congenital curvature. According to the urology literature, this surgical type was initially used for correction of curvature associated with hypospadias repair or congenital penile curvature...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness in Peyronie's disease surgical treatment using Xenform, a non-cross-linked graft derived from dermal bovine tissue, to close the defect obtained after plaque incision, without penile prosthesis implant. A further objective is to evaluate the satisfaction of patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We treated with plaque incision 28 patients with a stable penile curvature ≥60° hindering penetration and with erectile function conserved...

Hypospadias is a congenital pathology of the male genitalia that we diagnose and treat more every day. Due to an increase of case load we must have at hand a large quantity of surgical techniques for its correct treatment. Ventral corporoplasty of the corpora cavernosa is one of them that will help us to successfully treat the most severe cases within this variety which is the pathology itself. We performed a prospective study in Malaga, Spain between 2010-2015. We review the technic and its indications, and the authors personal series with 20 cases performed by 2 surgeons using the same protocol and technics...

The objective of the study was to report our results using a porcine small intestinal submucosa graft (Surgisis ES, Cook Medical) for tunica albuginea substitution after plaque incision. We retrospectively evaluated patients surgically treated at our institution for Peyronie's disease (PD) by means of plaque incision and porcine small intestinal submucosa grafting (Surgisis) between 2009 and 2013. At the same time a literature review was conducted, searching for similar reports and results. Forty-four patients were identified who had been diagnosed with PD between 2009 and the beginning of 2013, and had been treated with corporoplasty, plaque incision and grafting with Surgisis for a severe curvature of the penis...

INTRODUCTION: Penile curvature correction with plaque incision and graft (PIG) increases the risk of erectile dysfunction (ED) and is associated with mechanical and geometric abnormalities. AIMS: The aim of this study was to create and validate a new PIG technique using minimum graft area to correct simple or complex penile curvature with or without hourglass deformity, while avoiding mechanical and geometric abnormalities. METHODS: Using our cotton fabric model, we created a mathematic solution for PIG with no residual defects...

The incision/excision and grafting techniques (PIG) for surgical therapy of Peyronie's disease (PD) have gained popularity in recent years. Several different graft materials have been used but the ideal graft has yet to be established. The use of grafting materials could cause complications. In the daily clinical practice it will always be more frequent to manage complications arising from their use. We present herein the case of a patch bulging repaired with a ready-to-use collagen fleece (Tachosil®, Takeda, Linz, Austria, Europe) in a 61 years old man subjected to intervention of geometric corporoplasty with Paulo Egydio technique using an acellular collagen material (Xenform® patch, Boston Scientific, Natick, MA, USA) as graft...

INTRODUCTION: Penile corporoplasty is a well-established treatment method of congenital penile deviation (CPD). Anatomical results are good with only slight differences between surgical procedures used. The disease however has huge influence on young male quality of life. This issue is not well analyzed in the literature. AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate quality of life of the patients affected with CPD before and after the surgical treatment METHODS: Study population consisted of 107 patients with CPD referred for surgical management...

OBJECTIVE: The objectives of surgical repair of epispadias include the achievement of urinary continence, cosmetically acceptable genitalia with correction of curvature and normal genital function. To achieve all the aforementioned objectives, patients usually undergo two- or multiple-stage surgeries. Traditionally, the patients undergo epispadias repair in the first stage through modified Cantwell-Ransley or Mitchell-Bagli procedure. Subsequently, in the second stage, bladder neck repair is performed to achieve continence, the most common procedure being modified Young-Dees-Leadbetter...

OBJECTIVE: To assesses the surgical and functional efficacy of corporoplasty with buccal mucosa graft, patients and partner's satisfaction, and the low cost of this operation. Biocompatible tissues are frequently used during corporoplasty, but they are expensive and often do not match the thickness and elasticity of the tunica albuginea, leading to fibrosis and scar retraction. Buccal mucosa graft is not usually emphasized in many review articles and clinical studies are limited. METHODS: Thirty-two patients with stable disease and normal erections were included in this retrospective study...
