This article proposes an improved A* algorithm aimed at improving the logistics path quality of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in digital production workshops, solving the problems of excessive path turns and long transportation time. The traditional A* algorithm is improved internally and externally. In the internal improvement process, we propose an improved node search method within the A* algorithm to avoid generating invalid paths; offer a heuristic function which uses diagonal distance instead of traditional heuristic functions to reduce the number of turns in the path; and add turning weights in the A* algorithm formula, further reducing the number of turns in the path and reducing the number of node searches...

The lifestyle of spinosaurid dinosaurs has been a topic of lively debate ever since the unveiling of important new skeletal parts for Spinosaurus aegyptiacus in 2014 and 2020. Disparate lifestyles for this taxon have been proposed in the literature; some have argued that it was semiaquatic to varying degrees, hunting fish from the margins of water bodies, or perhaps while wading or swimming on the surface; others suggest that it was a fully aquatic underwater pursuit predator. The various proposals are based on equally disparate lines of evidence...

Commonly reported end points for operating room (OR) and surgical scheduling performance are the percentages of estimated OR times whose absolute values differ from the actual OR times by ≥15%, or by various intervals from ≥5 to ≥60 minutes. We show that these metrics are invalid assessments of OR performance. Specifically, from 19 relevant articles, multiple OR management decisions that would increase OR efficiency or productivity would also increase the absolute percentage error of the estimated case durations...

Most individuals are latently infected with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), and it is well-established that HSV-1 establishes latency in sensory neurons of peripheral ganglia. However, it was recently proposed that latent HSV-1 is also present in immune cells recovered from the ganglia of experimentally infected mice. Here, we reanalyzed the single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) data that formed the basis for that conclusion. Unexpectedly, off-target priming in 3' scRNA-Seq experiments enabled the detection of non-polyadenylated HSV-1 latency-associated transcript ( LAT ) intronic RNAs...

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to assess the feasibility and diagnostic performance of ultrasound-guided bone biopsies at the bedside of diabetic patients admitted for suspected foot osteitis not requiring surgery. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: In this retrospective monocentric study, we compared the performance of ultrasound-guided (n = 29 consecutive patients, Dec.2020-Oct.2022) versus surgical (n = 24 consecutive patients, Jan.2018-Nov.2020) bone biopsies at confirming or ruling out diabetic foot osteitis (primary outcome)...

This article presents a clustering effectiveness measurement model based on merging similar clusters to address the problems experienced by the affinity propagation (AP) algorithm in the clustering process, such as excessive local clustering, low accuracy, and invalid clustering evaluation results that occur due to the lack of variety in some internal evaluation indices when the proportion of clusters is very high. First, depending upon the "rough clustering" process of the AP clustering algorithm, similar clusters are merged according to the relationship between the similarity between any two clusters and the average inter-cluster similarity in the entire sample set to decrease the maximum number of clusters Kmax ...

INTRODUCTION: Student-led Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) provide formative learning opportunities prior to Faculty-led OSCEs. It is important to undertake quality assurance measurements of peer-led assessments because, if they are found to be unreliable and invalid, they may have detrimental impacts. The objectives of this study were to explore and evaluate Student-led OSCEs hosted by fifth-year medical students. METHODS: Student-led OSCE results were analysed to examine reliability (Cronbach's alpha)...

Mindreading ability-also referred to as cognitive empathy or mentalizing-is typically conceptualized as a relatively stable dimension of individual differences in the ability to make accurate inferences about the mental states of others. This construct is primarily assessed using self-report questionnaires and task-based performance measures. However, the validity of these measures has been questioned: According to rival interpretations, mindreading tasks may capture general cognitive ability, whereas mindreading self-reports may capture perceived rather than actual mindreading ability...

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (CT), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) and Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) remain significant global health problems. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently conducted a multi-faceted, multi-country validation study (ProSPeRo), which included an evaluation of the Xpert CT/NG and Xpert TV assays on the GeneXpert system (Cepheid, Sunnyvale, Ca., USA) in clinic-based settings across eight countries. To support the study, a training and quality management system was implemented and evaluated...

However, positive FCXM in the absence of DSA is considered discordant and need further investigations. During COVID-19 pandemic, we observed 22% discordant results out of 445 FCXM performed during eight months period in our laboratory and another 7% were invalid due to high background negative control (NC). Deep Learning algorithms have achieved state-of-the-art performance in various important tasks. However, recent studies have found that an elaborate perturbation may cause a network to misclassify, which is known as an adversarial attack. Based on current research, it is suggested that adversarial examples cannot be eliminated completely. Consequently, it is always possible to determine an attack that is effective against a defense model. We render existing adversarial examples invalid by altering the classification boundaries...

Gliomas are aggressive brain tumors with poor prognosis even after surgical removal and radio-chemotherapy, stressing the urgency to find alternative therapies. Several preclinical studies evaluating the anticancer effect of curcumin in animal models of glioma are reported, but a systematic review with meta-analysis of these studies, considering the different experimental conditions used, has not been made up to this date. A search in different databases (Pubmed, Web of Science, Scopus, and SciELO) following the PRISMA statement was conducted during November 2023 to systematically identify articles assessing the effect of curcumin in murine xenograft models of glioma and identified 15 articles, which were subdivided into 24 studies...

Past research suggests a continuity between perception and memory, as reflected in influences of orienting of spatial attention by cues presented after a visual target offset (post-target cues) on target perception. Conducting two experiments, we tested and confirmed this claim. Our study revealed an elevated reliance on post-target cues for target detection with diminishing target visibility, leading to better performance in validly versus invalidly cued trials, indicative of contrast gain. We demonstrated this post-target cueing impact on target perception without a postcue response prompt, meaning that our results truly reflected a continuity between perception and memory rather than a task-specific impact of having to memorize the target due to a response prompt...

INTRODUCTION: The ability to allocate visual attention is known to be impaired in patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). In the present study, we investigated a possible neural correlate of this cognitive deficit by examining the pupil response of patients with mTBI whilst performing a modified Posner visual search task. METHOD: Two experiments were conducted in which the target location was either not cued (Experiment 1) or cued (Experiment 2). Additionally, in Experiment 2, the type of cue (endogenous vs exogenous cue) and cue validity were treated as independent variables...

OBJECTIVE: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are commonly reported in individuals presenting for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) evaluation. Performance validity tests (PVTs) and symptom validity tests (SVTs) are essential to ADHD evaluations in young adults, but extant research suggests that those who report ACEs may be inaccurately classified as invalid on these measures. The current study aimed to assess the degree to which ACE exposure differentiated PVT and SVT performance and ADHD symptom reporting in a multi-racial sample of adults presenting for ADHD evaluation...
