In some tumoral subtypes chromosomal translocations lead to an oncogenic chimeric protein acting as a tumorigenesis driver event. The main fusion model combines the promoter swapping of an inactivated tumor suppressor gene and a functional kinase that evades its regulatory system. The range of described fusions keeps growing in the 2023 WHO classification of melanocytic tumours. It is not limited to the group of Spitz tumours as previously but now extends to blue tumours and dermal tumours with a melanocytic phenotype...

BACKGROUND: We report the case of a patient with melanoma and liver failure with encephalopathy, successfully treated with nivolumab without major side effects and encouraging prolonged disease control. CASE PRESENTATION: In June 2022, metastatic lesions appeared in the liver associated with melanoma progression under treatment. Liver biopsy was non-diagnostic. The patient developed fever, abdominal distension, and jaundice. Liver function tests (LFTs) began to deteriorate...

Anorectal melanomas are a rare malignant type of cancer and pose a diagnostic challenge due to their hidden anatomical location. They are associated with nonspecific clinical symptoms and are therefore often misinterpreted as benign disease. The result is delayed diagnosis in the locally advanced or metastasized stage and an unfavorable prognosis. Given the overall low incidence of the tumor, no consensus guidelines for diagnosis or therapy are established either internationally or nationally at present...

We report a case of primary melanoma of a female urethra diagnosed at a non-metastatic stage in a 48-year-old patient with a history of breast carcinoma treated with radiotherapy and hormone therapy. The patient was consulting for dysuria, hematuria, and perineal pain. The clinical examination found a prolapsed and black mass, developed at the expense of the urethra and located at the anterosuperior part of the vulva. The mass biopsy revealed a proliferation of fusiform and globular cells loaded with black pigment expressing the anti-HMB 45 and PS 100 antibodies...

INTRODUCTION: Malignant non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) are of two main types: basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). In rare occasions, some of the malignant skin lesions show histopathological characteristics of both BCC and SCC and are known as basosquamous carcinomas (BSC). In some cases of large tumors, extensive reconstructive surgery might be needed to correct the skin defect after the primary excision. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report a case of a 76-year-old Bulgarian male patient who presented with a neglected giant cutaneous tumor with more than a 15-year history of a growing mass in the right deltoid area...

Primary malignant melanoma of the urinary tract is a rare entity with less than 50 cases reported worldwide. The following case concerns a 64-year-old woman whom we first saw in our emergency room due to gross haematuria. As part of the subsequent diagnostic investigation, we detected a primary malignant melanoma of the bladder and the urethra. The patient was treated with radical urethrocystectomy including pelvic lymphadenectomy and an ileum conduit. This was followed by a year of adjuvant therapy using checkpoint inhibitors...

Among the 16,000 new cases of malignant tumors of the head and neck diagnosed in France each year, 10% are not conventional squamous cell carcinomas. These so-called rare cancers are distinguished by their presentation and patterns of failure, which is important to recognize in order to offer specific adapted management and maximize the chances of tumor control. These cancers can be rare by their histology as well as their anatomical location when arising from the paranasal sinuses, salivary glands and ear...
