OBJECTIVE: Visceral adipose tissue assessment holds significant importance in diabetes prevention. This study aimed to explore the association between the newly proposed Metabolic Score for Visceral Fat (METS-VF) and diabetes risk and to further assess the predictive power of the baseline METS-VF for the occurrence of diabetes in different future periods. METHODS: This longitudinal cohort study included 15,464 subjects who underwent health screenings. The METS-VF, calculated using the formula developed by Bello-Chavolla et al...

The purpose of this systematic review was to summarize the associations of eccentric force variables during jumping and eccentric lower-limb strength with vertical jump performance. A literature search was conducted in September 2022 using PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Thirteen cross-sectional studies investigating the relationship between eccentric force and strength variables, such as force, rate of force development (RFD), power, time, and velocity, and vertical jump performance, including the jump height, reactive strength index (RSI), and reactive strength index-modified (RSImod), were included in this systematic review...

The input features of existing wind power time-series data prediction models are difficult to indicate the potential relationships between data, and the prediction methods are based on deep learning, which makes the convergence of the models slow and difficult to be applied to the actual production environment. To solve the above problems, an ultra-short-term wind power prediction model based on the XGBoost algorithm combined with financial technical index feature engineering and variational ant colony algorithm is proposed...

In this work, we study the influence of the different surface terminations of c-plane sapphire substrates on the synthesis of graphene via plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The different terminations of the sapphire surface are controlled by a plasma process. A design of experiments procedure was carried out to evaluate the major effects governing the plasma process of four different parameters: i.e., discharge power, time, pressure and gas employed. In the characterization of the substrate, two sapphire surface terminations were identified and characterized by means of contact angle measurements, being a hydrophilic (hydrophobic) surface and the fingerprint of an Al- (OH-) terminated surface, respectively...

As the main source of energy for human beings, starch is widely present in people's daily diet. However, due to its high content of rapidly digestive starch, it can cause a rapid increase in blood glucose after consumption, which is harmful to the human body. In the current study, the complexes made from edible rose polyphenols (ERPs) and three starches (corn, potato and pea) with different typical crystalline were prepared separately by multi-frequency power ultrasound (MFPU). The MFPU includes single-frequency modes of 40, 60 kHz and dual-frequency of 40 and 60 kHz in sequential and simultaneous mode...

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The influence of post-exercise cooling on recovery has gained much attention in the empirical literature, however, data is limited in regards to optimizing recovery from taekwondo performance when combat is repeated in quick succession within the same day. The aim of this study was therefore to compare the effects of external and internal cooling after simulated taekwondo combat upon intestinal temperature (Tint ), psychomotor skills (reaction time, response time, movement time), and neuromuscular function (peak torque, average power, time to reach peak torque)...

BACKGROUND: The lesion index (LSI) helps predict the lesion size and is widely used in ablation of various types of arrhythmias. However, the influence of the ablation settings on the lesion formation and incidence of steam pops under the same LSI value remains unclear. METHODS: Using a contact force (CF) sensing catheter (TactiCath™) in an ex vivo swine left ventricle model, RF lesions were created with a combination of various power steps (30 W, 40 W, 50 W) and CFs (10 g, 20 g, 30 g, 40 g, 50 g) under the same LSI values (5...

In this method, a diagonal double rectangular microphone array is used as the acquisition device, minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) and long short-term memory network (LSTM) are used as the processing models, and the roller fault distance data are classified to complete the estimation of the idler fault distance...

While the use of tissue-mimicking (TM) phantoms has been ubiquitous in surgical robotics, the translation of technology from laboratory experiments to equivalent intraoperative tissue conditions has been a challenge. The increasing use of lasers for surgical tumor resection has introduced the need to develop a modular, low-cost, functionally relevant TM phantom to model the complex laser-tissue interaction. In this paper, a TM phantom with mechanically and thermally similar properties as human brain tissue suited for photoablation studies and subsequent visualization is developed...

BACKGROUND: Intracameral antibiotics, such as moxifloxacin and cefuroxime, are safe to corneal endothelial cells and effective prophylaxis of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery. Corneal endothelial cells decrease in density after cataract surgery. Any substance used in the anterior chamber may affect corneal endothelial cells and lead to a greater decrease in density. This study wants to determine the percentage of endothelial cell loss after cataract extraction by phacoemulsification with off-label intracameral injection of moxifloxacin and dexamethasone (Vigadexa®)...

Temporal information plays a crucial role in human everyday life. Yet, perceived time is subject to distortions. Emotion, for instance, is a powerful time modulator in that emotional events are perceived longer than neutral events of the same length. However, it is unknown how exposure to emotional stimuli influences the time perception of a simultaneous neutral tactile event. To fill this gap, we tested the effect of emotional auditory sounds on the perception of neutral vibrotactile feedback. We used neutral and emotional (i...

Conventional ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) production usually requires long processing times in the carbonization step to achieve desired temperatures through controlled ramps. To enable expedited materials discovery, developing advanced manufacturing capability with significantly improved throughput is highly desired. Current approaches for accelerating the synthesis of OMCs include using microwave and Joule heating. However, both methods rely on the introduction of additional components, such as microwave absorbers and electrically conductive agents, within the bulk materials to impart the ability to reach high carbonization temperatures...

Herein, the heterogeneous Au/Pt@CuO/Cu2 O catalyst was used to investigate the structure-activity relationship, while Au/Pt significantly promotes the activity of CuO/Cu2 O to catalyze H2 O2 and thus produces ·OH and O2 •- radicals in highly alkaline solutions, resulting in the strong and long chemiluminescence in the reaction with luminol (10 mL, more than 4 min with 1 μg catalyst)...

Parboiling is gaining increasing attention as it can enhance the head rice yield (HRY) and nutritional quality of non-pigmented rice. The traditional parboiling process with high-temperature immersion requires a long immersion period and results in hard texture of cooked parboiled black rice (PBR), which may be addressed by ultrasound-assisted immersion. In this study, we evaluated the effect of power, time and temperature of ultrasonic immersion on the HRY, texture profile and nutritional quality of PBR. Proper ultrasound-assisted immersion could increase the HRY by about 20% and the GABA content by up to 133%, as well as reduce the arsenic and cadmium content by up to 61% and 79% relative to untreated black rice (UBR), respectively...

In testing the prognostic value of the occurrence of an intervening event (clinical event that occurs post-transplant), 3 proper statistical methodologies for testing its prognostic value exist (time dependent covariate, landmark, and semi-Markov modelling methods). However, time-dependent bias has appeared in many clinical reports, whereby the intervening event is statistically treated as a baseline variable (as if it occurred at transplant). Using a single-center cohort of 445 intestinal transplant cases to test the prognostic value of 1st acute cellular rejection (ACR) and severe (grade of) ACR on the hazard rate of developing graft loss, we demonstrate how the inclusion of such time-dependent bias can lead to severe underestimation of the true hazard ratio (HR)...
