PURPOSE: To evaluate maternal and neonatal outcomes in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP). METHODS: Patients who gave birth in our hospital between January 2018 and March 2022 were retrospectively reviewed from the hospital database and patient file records. The study comprised 1686 patients, 54 in the ICP group and 1632 controls. Patients who had ICP after 20 weeks of gestation and were monitored and delivered at our facility were enrolled...

The endogenous metabolite of estradiol, estradiol 17β-D-glucuronide (E17G), is considered the main responsible of the intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. E17G alters the activity of canalicular transporters through a signaling pathway-dependent cellular internalization, phenomenon that was attributed to oxidative stress in different cholestatic conditions. However, there are no reports involving oxidative stress in E17G-induced cholestasis, representing this the aim of our work. Using polarized hepatocyte cultures, we showed that antioxidant compounds prevented E17G-induced Mrp2 activity alteration, being this alteration equally prevented by the NADPH oxidase (NOX) inhibitor apocynin...

INTRODUCTION: Most pregnancies in women after a kidney transplant result in a live birth, but kidney functions should be stable for one year before conception. For immunosuppression modification occurring before pregnancy, azathioprine is used because it is considered safe for major congenital malformations during pregnancy. However, there may be an association between exposure to azathioprine during pregnancy and the onset of an unusual, early and severe form of intrahepatic cholestasis...

BACKGROUND: Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy is a pregnancy-related liver condition that is characterized by elevated liver function tests and/or bile acids in the presence of pruritis. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to assess the aspartate aminotransferase to Platelet Ratio Index and Fibrosis-4 Index scores in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. STUDY DESIGN: The prospective study was carried out by assessing 142 women: 71 whose pregnancies were complicated by intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy and 71 without intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy...

Bile acid (BA) receptors (e.g., farnesoid X-activated receptor, muscarinic receptor) are expressed in cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells, and vascular smooth muscle cells, indicating the relevance of BAs to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Hydrophobic BAs are cardiotoxic, while hydrophilic BAs are cardioprotective. For example, fetal cardiac insufficiency in maternal intrahepatic cholestasis during pregnancy, and the degree of fetal cardiac abnormality, is closely related to the level of hydrophobic BAs in maternal blood and infant blood...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: To investigate the impact of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on pregnancy outcomes. METHODS: We selected 512 pregnant women, collected the data including maternal demographics, main adverse pregnancy outcomes and maternal HBV infected markers HBeAg and HBV-DNA loads status, then have a comparative analysis. RESULTS: There were 319 solitary ICP patients without HBV infection (Group I) and 193 ICP patients with HBV infection...

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) typically presents in the second half of pregnancy. Severe ICP is associated with increased risk of stillbirth. Little is known regarding elevated bile acids in the first trimester. We present a case of severely elevated bile acids in the first trimester, resistant to conservative management, in a patient with pre-existing cholestatic liver disease and aortic valve disease requiring anticoagulation. Therapeutic plasma exchange was used. In those with pre-existing cholestatic disease, early bile acid elevation is likely distinct from ICP, and conservative strategies may not be useful...

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is associated with an increased risk of cesarean section and adverse fetal outcomes. Currently, ICP diagnosis depends largely on serum levels of bile acids and lacks sensitivity and specificity for accurate diagnosis. Tongue diagnosis is an important diagnostic tool in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and is used in our clinic as complementary treatment and personalized medicine for ICP. However, the molecular basis of the manifestation of greasy white tongue coatings in ICP remains unknown...

However, studies with large samples on the factors of NEC in China have not been reported. This meta-analysis aims to systematically review the literature to explore the influencing factors of necrotizing enterocolitis in premature infants in China and provide a reference for the prevention of NEC.
