OBJECTIVE: Although the assessment of a bronchodilator response (BDR) is a routine and important procedure when performing lung function tests, comparisons between spirometric and oscillometric BDRs in asthmatic children living at high altitude have not been previously reported. The aim of the present study was to compare spirometric and oscillometric BDRs in children living at high altitude, and to identify independent predictors of spirometric and oscillometric BDRs. METHODS: Between January and December, 2015, asthmatic children aged between 5 and 17 years old performed impulse oscillometry (IOS) and spirometry during the same visit before and after albuterol administration...

This article describes the development and validation of a liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry method for the simultaneous determination of over 400 multi-class priority and emerging pollutants with different physicochemical properties in environmental waters (surface water and wastewater). The proposed approach is based on the use of a database consisting of retention time/exact mass (of selected ions) pairs implemented with specific software for data analysis. The targeted list comprises 430 contaminants belonging to different compound categories, including 105 multiclass pharmaceuticals (analgesics/anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, lipid regulators, β-blockers, antiepileptic/psychiatrics ulcer healings, diuretics, hormones and bronchodilatadors), life-style products (caffeine, nicotine), 21 drugs of abuse and their metabolites, 279 pesticides and some of their more relevant metabolites, nitrosamines, flame retardants, plasticizers and perfluorinated compounds...

To evaluate the oxidative stress and the C-reactive protein (CRP) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and their correlation between the severity of the disease according to GOLD criteria and multidimensional indexes such as BODE index. A blood sample was collected for thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, glutathione (GSH), homocysteine (HCY) and CRP analysis from 45 stable COPD patients. Lung function, body nutritional status, dyspnea and 6-min walk test (6MWT) were evaluated...

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the potential saving in the pharmaceutical cost that would suppose the use of equivalent pharmaceutical specialties and smaller price, in the main groups of pharmaceutical cost in 1998. DESIGN: Pharmacoepidemiologic study of drug utilization and a pharmaeconomic analysis of minimisation costs. LOCATION: Primary care of the province of Toledo. PARTICIPANTS: Prescriptions with official medical prescription of the pharmaceutical groups of greater cost during 1998 (peptic antiulcer, hipolipemiants, antagonists of calcium, hipotensors, peripheral vasodilators, macrolids, nonsteroidal antiinflamatories and antirheumatics, antidepressants and bronchodilatadors)...

We retrospectively review 893 cases of children, occurred in epidemic bout in September-October 1987, in order to study the usual management of his pathology in our hospital. In most cases (82.3%) diagnose was laryngitis or acute laryngitis without specification acute laryngotracheitis or spasmodic group. Epiglottitis was no detected in any case. Complementary tests were performed only in 5% of the patients, but they were of little help for the diagnose. Treatment applied was ambiental hummidiffication (95...
