Interaction between two periodontal pathogens, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola, contributes to plaque biofilm formation. P. gingivalis forms aggregates with T. denticola through its adhesion/hemagglutinin domain (Hgp44). In this study, we investigated the specific domain of P. gingivalis Hgp44 responsible for adhesion to T. denticola using expression vectors harboring P. gingivalis Hgp44 DNA sequences encoding amino acid residues 1-419. We present the case of a fistula between the trachea and the esophagogastric anastomosis in a 58-year-old male after esophagectomy. A Hem-o-Lok clip used at the time to ligate the azygos vein was discovered by esophagoscopy and bronchoscopy to be eroding into the both structures. Chromosomes are folded and compacted in interphase nuclei, but the molecular basis of this folding is poorly understood.
